In this video, I replace the Hub and Wheel Bearing assembly on a 2006 Jeep Commander. Both front wheel bearings needed to be replaced so I changed them both out and fixed the ABS code, along with the noise coming from the front end. If your the wheel bearing you are trying to replace is a press-in wheel bearing, click on the following link and it will bring you to a DIY on how to fix that.

Great video. I knew how to do it, but you cleared up a few things. Glad it is not just me who forgets the brake dust shield. Certain you found it when cleaning up. Torqueing the axel nut needs more explanation for the viewers.

Very nice. I've had a difficult time with the bearing on my enclave, that's really seized on there. I tried some other tips that all failed or wouldn't work because of various configurations. I hit the tool store & got a bearing puller. After beating the crap out of it, it finally came out. Thanks for the great tip, you saved me from taking it to a shop.

I like that you use anti-seize. I also apply anti-seize to the axle SPLINES. I have fought for hours to get the axle shaft to break free when it's rust welded because it had been installed dry. Also I have had the caliper bracket bolts loosen & one fall out almost causing a serious accident. Use lock tite on the thread portion closest to the end of the bolts that will be in the threads of the hub. Put anti-seize on the portion of the bolts that will be inside the knuckle holes & apply correct torque.

Hey Milan, just wanted to tell you that I'm buying a VW Bora, aka a MK4 Jetta, which is pretty much Golf with a boot. Its timing belt had snapped so the valves are bent so those are going to need replacing. But thankfully for the rest of the small jobs I'll be able to watch your videos for help, because the Bora is basically a Golf underneath and on the inside. Just wanted to tell you that you'll be of great value ;).

Use a wire brush on the exposed threads before you start the undo, the lube will help as well. But the rust can damage the threads and make the nuts loose. Good video. On Range Rover similar set up, the book says use Loctite 648 on the splines. First time I have ever heard of this. I think copper ease loosely applied does the trick. The second hand hubs came without any trace of lube or loctite.. Job being done soon as I get new bolts.

You speak nice and clearly and I really appreciate the time you spent on making the video. I'm slightly worried about 8:17 using the two leg puller to push on the axle (and pull on the hub/bearing assembly). My concern is that pushing the axle towards the diff/transaxle could potentially cause damage at the diff. Is this possible?

Quick question, would you recommend putting some blue thread locker on any of those components that are torque spec'd?
@Soldier1287
@Soldier1287 7 лет назад
Is the hub assembly the actual bearing? Or can the bearing itself be removed from the assembly? Cause I've seen separate bearings sold by themselves and alot cheaper than $100+ maybe even possible to change the bearing balls and add fresh grease? I could clean up the hub with my angle grinder with wire brush, maybe flap disc attachment as well, then finish off with high temp clear coat to stop rust from returning
@BigHappysPlace
@BigHappysPlace 6 лет назад
yes, while you can replace just the bearing it's self in the hub assembly. It requires a hydraulic press and more time to complete. Also the odds of the ABS sensor becoming damaged while removing the bearing is greatly increased, with how the sensor is integrated in to the assembly. It's more cost effective and less labor intensive to just replace the hub.

condor5635 A common misconception. It makes no difference. If anything it’s there to keep splashes off the rotor. Most of the time it traps more material than it deflects.
