Thanks for the video. I actually just had to pop part of the switch back into place and it started working again. I was able to fix it without buying a new part. The situation was my own fault because I forced the washer up when it was locked because the machine was shaking from being lopsided. I learned a very valuable lesson on why you should never do that. Thank you for this video. I suspected my lid switch was bad so I went looking for a how-to video on getting it out and yours was up high and perfectly simple. I didn't want to wait for a new part so when I got it out, I took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts (center pin on my switch) and made necessary adjustments, reassembled and reinstalled. The washing machine is currently spinning on a test cycle. This machine still has a couple other issues but that's the big one down, thank you (again).

THANK YOU! I knew I goofed up my switch after I slammed my lid since this machine beeps more than R2D2 and has it's own mind on what to do (yeah, I know, the mother board is prob going out). Your other vid took me through the steps. I actually took the switch apart and crazy glued the itty-bitty tab that drives the spring loaded shaft. It's the size of a grain of rice. No wonder it breaks. I put fresh tape around the exterior to keep out the water before re-installing and can at least run my machine while I order a new part. I run an Air BnB and can't have my machine down. You truly saved me!

I've worked on 2006 and up Whirlpool manufactured washers for years but these GE's are sure different in how they do things. I bought the switch and wiring used on eBay so hopefully, this will work. Thank you didn't know how to remove the switch, i had one of my boys get the switch wet looking for his wallet in the washer and the washer wouldn't lock ...just keep clicking --- never locking...i followed your directions removed the switch and checked the springs it seemed fine...stuck the switch on my dehumidifier and dried it out for about 30 minutes...put it back in and switch started working again...thanks again

Thank you for your excellent video, which has helped me several times. I bought the washing machine new in 2017. The switch first failed in 2021. Out of curiosity, I actually took the switch apart and cleaned out some green corrosion on a copper contact. (It was an extremely complicated electro-mechanical device.) That fixed it for about 6 months. It failed again, as I expected it would, and I got a new replacement switch to fix it. Now, 2 years later in 2024 the replacement has failed. I luckily bought two more spares last time so I had one to put right in. The bad one I took out was all wet, so I think the water splashing from the wash gets into the switch to corrode it. That is a very poor design. There doesn't seem to be a good way to wrap it in a plastic covering since it has to be open for the door latch. Although the washing machine works well, when I use up my last switch I think I'll get a different brand machine. It's too bad they all use a microprocessor these days, enabling them to be able to use computer logic to lock them, instead of like old school types that had no lock at all. I never hurt myself using a washing machine in the 60 years I've been doing it!

My lid lock started acting up (turning on and off for and beginning of cycle), then washer would not start. I removed it, one prong looked corroded. I sanded it and scraped it with needle nose pliers. I put it back and now it works

our washing machine seems to do the whole wash cycle but will not spin and drain.. the we have to do a spin and drain cycle and some times it works.. but I have stayed down for a while spin and drain cycle and it seems to lock and unlock many many many time. do u think thats what it is the lock switch??

Wen i push start it lights up but no water comes out. All the powers buttons light up green but no water comes out every thing is plugged on. I have done the troubleshoot unplug for 2 minutes and it resets but still nothing. Wen my hubby checked the with flash light inside the drum the lock switch was off.. Could it be that that needs to be replaced

I have the same machine as your showing. When I tried starting the machine on a load, the lid locked light started blinking. Nothing works.Would that most likely be the lid switch?

THIS WORKED JUST THIS AFTERNOON! the white cap doesn't fit the replacement cap but the door closes and locks withtout it, it's just a little less smooth closing but i assume that will help with being more delicate about opening/closing the door... sad that General Electric makes such purposefuly delicate and fragile machines that it completely shut down just because of a lid lock...

So I had to order used on ebay. But if your having trouble ordering it or in need of the washer now. I used my tweezers bulled the broken latch to the position where it was out and stuck some roled 3m double sided adhesive behind the broken latch and now its working as it should for now. Basically when it unlocks it automatically pushes it back into position. Also looking at other comments my solution doesn't require removing the latch on the lid . This part is now $48 on Amazon and is our of stock as of right now too

Hi again. I've got a question you may be able to answer or offer some suggestion on what to try. I have GE washer that's really acting weird. After plugging it in all the lights come on on the instrument panel after maybe 20 secs. I'm not touching any buttons after plugging it in. I did try a motor reset which didn't help.. After about 20 sec. all the lights start flashing. Lifting the lid up they all go solid again but 20 sec. later they go into flashing mode again. Closing the lid they go solid for 20 seconds and then go back to flashing. It seems the be connected with the lid lock but I wonder what you think? I hate to spend money on a new switch only to find out it's not causing the issue. I found calling this machine every name in the book didn't help.

Are you saying that the other plastic arm should also move out like the other one that is spring loaded? Is that the bottom line? Is that the test that one can rely on that will indicated a bad door switch if the either on doesn't bounce back or perhaps the other way indicating that that door won't unlock, it's opposite. I have one that has stayed locked.

My spin light is blinking and not spinning either, the lid is "locked" should I still to replace that part?

Question switch part is not broken the top part white piece that clicks and locks the machine broke how do I order that part?

Just got finished changing out that senor..whoever installs that part immediately finds that the washer still doesn't start..go around the house and RESET all the GFIs in the house..I found when the senor quit working it tripped a GFI in the house.

How do I get to my washer belt it needs to be replaced & I think I better fix the part to drain washer to, I wash having a lil bit if an issue w-that be4 my belt went out it's a GE washer

I don't understand why everyone does this the hard way with a screw driver or even a putty knife, there should be enough room between the tub and the top to get your hand under there and just pop the tabs ( careful you pop that last one it shoots off like a spring )
