Do not do it this way. I have done hundreds of these and if you need to bend the pins you are doing something very wrong. There is a much easier and faster way with less heat.
I´ve had problems with the pins before, i´ll try bending them next time, thanks. Oh, and using flux to protect the plastic, i´m always afraid of melting it.
