Man, older video but I'm glad someone else has had this issue (well, you know what I mean lol). I've fixed a lot of Switch units. A ton and just now came across this exact issue. The thing turns on no problem but will not take so much as a sip of current. Two M92 chips later and she works fine, lol. I thought I was going crazy for a sec and almost moved on as I have a backlog of items too long to give the thing more time than I had.

Bless you for your diligence. I agree with the toothbrushes. So many bristles may clean faster, but you're adding too much at one time and the abrasion takes effect faster. You slog the isopropyl on their enough to not be so heavy on the bristle work. Looks great!

so can i check anything before removing m92 and soldering another one? its like try and error? must have some way to find out 😢
@Gunzee
@Gunzee 6 месяцев назад
Quick question, I've not used my switch for 6-7 months. I thought it would be a good idea to just get it out and change it up. How should one store the switch for an extended time? Should i remove the battery? Charge the battery every 6 months? Also if there a need to replace the thermal paste and pads? If so how often? Assume it gets very little use.
@marsma18

Why you do not put the diodes after changing the chip? I think that first chip was not properly soldered, if you resolder it it would work. When you remove it it looks like there was too much solder underneth it. And the reason it is true , when you place second chip and tack it down a big solder ball appear. Either way good job on repair.
@TheCod3r
@TheCod3r 3 года назад
Personally I leave the diode arrays off if I remove them for any reason because the board will work perfectly fine without them, so by leaving them off it's one less failure point in the future. The solder squeezing out is perfectly normal though, when you push down on the chip it pushes it flat to the board and any excess will push out the sides, that basically just allows us to know 100% that the chip is making a good contact with the pads :)
@soulmourne2698

I wonder why those chips fail that much m92t36 and p13usb, i mean all the people i know that have switches and take care of their consoles have never had an issue with the console itself they always have with the stick drift, i wonder if a reason can be the use of 3rd party docks or third party usb c chargers, probably those chargers might not have the exact same current and the chips short or something, i personally also think that the toothbrush is better and faster, good video as always and very well explained :)
@TheCod3r
@TheCod3r 3 года назад
Thanks bud, the main reason is kids using them while they're charging and causing damage to either the cable or the port, but generally they're very reliable chips :)

Great fix like always. I have a question for you, that I'd like to get your opinion on if possible. I have a Switch that doesn't dock, or charge on the dock, or chrage with the original charger. It will charge with my cellphone charger, that outputs DC 5v 1.5A with input 100-240v. So in your opinion what could be the problem? I have also looked at the USB-C port an pins an they are fine. Could it be the same issue like this switch with the M92T36 chip? Thank you for any help you can provide without actually looking at the Switch. Thanks again keep up the great work.
@DannyWilliamH
@DannyWilliamH 2 года назад
Old comme but, yes. M92 is the weak link in Switch and it handles charging via CC1 & 2 pins to activate VCC and quick charge. The dang things can even partially work so they really are the bane of it's existence lol.

@@juscelino2253 Sorry I can't remember, but I did end up changing the M92T36 chip. Thanks to everyone that commented. I was honestly freaking out the entire time I was changing out the chip, but I got it done an it's worked ever since. Even after 2 drops, I've heard stories about the chip popping off after changing them. I guess those weren't soldered on entirely.

On time 10:23 if the fuse does not read continuity, does it mean i have to replace that,if so where do i find that or can i just use a jumper instead
@TheCod3r
@TheCod3r 2 года назад
Yes if the fuse doesn't read continuity you need to replace it. You can use a 0ohm resistor or jumper wire but I recommend using a proper fuse. You need a 3amp fast blow 0402 fuse. You can find them on Aliexpress :)

@@TheCod3r thx mate,so I'm new to this micro soldering, its really fun if you have the proper tools to do it,now i have ordered the fuse from aliexpress and noticed that that the BQ24193 charging ic and the big cap underneath it is damaged so i ordered that to...i need also some advice from you,on the back of the board around the max ic chip i reading some shorts on couple of the big caps ,is that normal if not does the max chip needs to be replaced as wel?
