I just want to thank you for the commentary. That natural way of teaching, and the humility of acknowledging other good contractors and how to find them, is so helpful.
I love how well informed he is, whoever taught him did a really good job, you know you've taught someone perfectly when they're able to teach others correctly
Appreciate this video. It helped save me over $300 from a con artist trying to rip off my family replacing a SINGLE broken shingle on the roof. The old 'If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself' seems to hold true in a lot of areas in life these days. Owning a home means you need to know more about repairing your house than the people you're trying to hire who are "supposed" to know more than you, it's pretty sad you can't really find reputable, fair, honest and reliable contractors anymore.
Did you want them to do it for $50??? Absolutely ridiculous you are outraged. I don’t think I’d do the job for less than $300. Many roofing companies won’t even do it. Repairs are a liability and they make no money doing it.
@@davidframe2311yes sir. Cost of doing business. Cost me $200 to start the truck and $100 climb the ladder lol. Also, in CA average cost for Reno/remodel/repair is about 500-1000 per foot. Lol, shingles are 3sqft. Sorry bubba, that’s gonna be a $500 job.
Congratulations. A video worthy of watching. I skipped all the way to the end to see if you would seal down the shingles before you were finished. WELL DONE! DIY'ers, you can watch this video with confidence you will learn the proper way to replace shingles.
When you run a straight bead like that with no gaps in the bead the water will come in threw the key way back up over the underlying shingle leak or become trapped and rot the nails out
Hey, good video. Very practical tips. Your camera person did an excellent job with the angles and your explanation was clear and simple to follow. Hope you are having a great day.
Really good diy video! Learned alot of smaller details to prevent additional installation damage. Thanks for taking time to show the less knowledgeable less experienced home owners.
Hey, my man. Just wanted to thank you for this vid. I have a simple repair to do on my roof and was just looking to make sure I do it right. Very glad I found you. You're obviously a pro and you made everything very easy to understand. Again, thank you.
There are what I call Dockers'' videos and then there are real ones. Yours is one of the real ones. Thanks! UPDATE: Spent the day on the roof using your technique (wind storm damage). I didn't break one tab. I had a heat gun ready to go, but I didn't need/use it. Mine was laid on with staples but the flat bar seem to work. Needle nose pliers to grab the staples that almost come out helps. I am a bit sore (too much desk time) but feel pretty good about getting it done...right. Again Thanks!
Great video! I’ve got four shingles on my roof I need to replace here in Texas. Went down to Lowe’s and got a pack of Owens Corning Driftwood. Looking forward to getting them repaired now that I’ve watched this!
Great video thank you so much! One missing shingle here in TEXAS deff going to take this video for references clear and cut to the point great front camera skills 🤙🏼🇺🇸🦅
My home has 12 yr. old GAF Architectural shingles on a 2:12 roof with Tiger Paw underlayment. The bonding on lead edges of a 3 x 3' area have come loose, allowing lift and a small drip leak directly under the area in high wind/ rain conditions. Will roof sealant/ rebonding repair be enough on those shingles or would it need replacement. 2 contractors (who gave no focus to it) want to redo 240 sq ft. with new. Thank you for the video.
I see y'all repair mobile home roofs, well my mobile home has shingles on it and I thought about going over the top of it with Tin and I seen y'all on here and that you have pretty good knowledge of what I should do tin or keep it shingles original thanks for advice in advance!!!
Good job. One thing about new shingles, you can't trust the glue strip to hold down the shingles. I always use roofing cement on the leading edges just ike you did. They used staples on my roof shingles, it's a royal pain removing them to replace a damaged shingle strip. I always use roofing nails to replace new shingles. Thanks for the video. By the way I'm almost 74 years old and still repairing my own roof every spring when we get high winds here.
Great Demo... I just lost a bunch of shingles, maybe 200 square feet if i add up all the missing sections..tar paper stayed put and is still in great shape, lost zero nails, just shingles, storm was insane, but only lost shingles on back sections... my roof is pretty old but shingles still are not brittle... i am hoping fema helps me out with supplies... I have done a few roofs over the years, but never repairs... I think i will start on the less damaged areas and hopefully after a few hours really get the hang of it... doing a little at a time will work best for me being in my 60's now... My roof is a 7/12 which is pretty steep, not falling off to me is my main concern...thanks for sharing
I have a lot of fun by watching this. I have a couple of naïve questions: why need to build it in this way, layer by layer. What is the purpose? How does rain go? Will flow through both the top and bottom of shingle?
The hard part is separating the shingles. They can be very hard to separate. Using a trowel, as shown in the video, is a good choice, but sometimes they still won't come apart. Using a heat gun to soften up the adhesive (especially in colder temps), can make the separation easier.
It could, that's why its important to use a strong calking like JTS-1 (by Mule Hide) to seal the shingle after the repair. www.mulehide.com/Roofing-Products/p/JTS1JointTerminationSealant
Thank this may be very useful for me. I got a list of things for my insurance company that need done, shingle for my garage roof wasn't one but it needs done. Got any estimate for all things that need fixed both insurance company issues as well as this. Guess I don't have to say but if it's possible for me to fix n save money I'm gonna. With your details explanation I think I may be able to handle. I'm not the biggest fan of heights but this roof is not that steep. Thank you once again. One question.... can I get the product you used for the finishing. Np1 caulking at Lowes or Home depot?
Awesome job showing how to repair shingle. I just went thru Hurricane Ian and had a few ridge shingles blow off. Can you use same process to replace ridges? The shingles are in the middle of the ridge and it seems hard to bend back the ridge shingles to get to nails. Or should I only use sealant?
I want to install a permanent access on the roof of my pump shed so that the pump can be pulled without having to do any roof work. This requires a hole above the pump that is at least 2 inches in diameter. What's my best option?
