My son removed the old starter from 77 C10 and I went and installed it just by factory wire ends . I had everything right except the small terminal was on wrong stud nearest frame that gets used on older vehicles only. This was only video showing taking wires off so thanks . Awesome video.
I'm so old that I forgot which terminal to bolt the single wire to. The young man who wired in the starter for me put the small wire on the R side and I thought that was wrong. Your video showed me that I had not forgotten everything. THANK YOU.
Hey! Thank you for this video. I took this out on my 1979 M1009 Military Blazer, but then forgot where the smallest wire connected to! I searched it up, and your video showed me exactly where I was to wire it. Thanks again!
Duncan Peterman I know it’s been a while but how did u remove it. The diff is crazy in the way. I took off 2 screws I think at 8mm holding the starter. Then 2 15mm which look to be to the block. But mine won’t come off. And the terminal ones (not the batteries ) I can’t even reach. Even smacked her with a hammer lightly. What am I missing
I have a 76 El Camino as my first car and the starter been giving me trouble, been wacking on it to start sometimes after school. Now it won’t engage so I’m gonna install a new one tomorrow. Thank you for the vid! Very simple and clear!
@@michaelbliss1976 I know this is an old comment, but I'm going to put this here for anyone who has the same problem with replacing a starter on a late 80s model El Camino/ caballero. It is possible to get the starter in without moving the 2 metal bars/ exhaust that are inexplicably placed right in the way of the starter. You have to tilt the starter to the perfect angle to slide it through the gap, then readjust it once it is above the bars, line it up with the holes, and pray you can get at least one bolt to connect while you're holding the 20 lb starter in place with one hand/ tightening with the other. This is not an easy task, but it is possible.
1991 was the last year for those second generation Blazers & Jimmys, & same with the seventh generation Suburbans & third generation C/K series pickups "only the crew cabs".
“Always something wrong with this stupid thing” amen. 1pm on a Sunday (my day off) and I don’t have a starter. Shouldn’t have missed church this morning lol.
Excellent video I have 87 suburban with a slow crank and sometimes so slow it won’t crank. Some times I’ll hit the gas when I try to start wich helps sometimes
@@MechanicLife usually happens on hot start.. But on every cold start it turns like normal but doesnt start the engine its always starts on the second try
Not sure if you will read this but i am stuck right now just rebuilt a motor and the starter connections were cut but i only have one thick red wire coming from fuse box that goes to to a post on firewall before the starter, a purple wire and the large 12v wire, where should the third one be coming from any idea? thanks for the video anyway!
@@MechanicLife Figured it out but appreciate the response! it was whats originally spliced from the fusebox to the purple starter wire ,alternator wires and the resister bulb before it.
I have a 1975 chevy caprice. When I staring it I have some grinding then it starts I hoping it just the start missing teeth vs the starter wheel. The grinding nose isn’t Constant ether 😅🥲
@@MechanicLife I forgot to say I fixed my starter the other day, it was a loose wire that was causing Havoc now it is purring like a kitten, well as much of a purrr it can possibly do LOL
It's the same starter on my 81' Chevy rwd C10. I made the mistake of letting a lengthy battery wire hang and touch the ground wire to the solenoid and it kept jumping the motor once I started it and had to disconnect the battery to shut it off
@MechanicLife Were the nose cone plates entirely different on the new vs. the old starter? They appear to be more rounded / beveled on the new one, and the old one seems to be flat / straight. Correct? Should it matter? Did you have to specify the nose cone shape when ordering? Thanks -
Dude, how the hell do you wire a min starter onto these? I have that thick black wire and the red wire on one terminal, and it immediately engages the starter. Something is messef up, and I have no idea how to fix it.
Hey man great video! I have a 1977 c10 with a pretty bad worn gear so I'm looking to just replace the whole starter, but where did you get your starter and what brand is it? I'm looking for something fairly cheap but that will work consistently
I’m working on a 1974 c10 and I just installed a new starter. Mine had 2 small wires and one went on each of the small studs. The motor was working and turning over the truck for the first couple tries but then it stopped and now all I get is one click and nothing else. Do you know what that could be?
So I came back to ask you if your truck has another little arm like metal piece that goes from starter to body of truck to help with securing the starter in place to keep from it jumping around when truck driving in mountains, or whatever?
I have a question if anyone can answer it I have a 76 c20 it has a 350 out of a 80’s model I’m guessing and this morning it didn’t want to start unlike this video mine clicks only once so is there a second solenoid on the body somewhere that I can try replacing before I have to pull my right side long tube header to get to the starter solenoid?
I have a 82 c10 and it started just fine. I jumped a car and parked my pickup. A day later I turned the key all the lights turned on and when I went to start position nothing happened. No clicking no jittering just dead. Any suggestions?
I'm having the same issue with a 1982 c30 dually with the 350. Accessories have power but no clicking. So my guess is ignition switch, starter, distributor, or wiring since it's been sitting for 8yrs and mice suck.
@@yolo-qr2fq nope the battery was fine. I looked ar the wired and saw I had some melted ones but the big problem was the fuse that has probably been on it since factory. I replaced that and it fired right up
Hey Luke, I have a C1500 Chevy pickup 1988 very similar to the blazer in the video the starter isn’t completely flush with the flywheel cover but my truck still starts, is it normal for the starter to not be completely flush on these vehicles?
