I've changed several tires on several different pieces of equipment and cars, but this was the first dolly. I could not figure out how to get the tire off until your video. You did a great job here walking us through it the whole way. Bless you for saving my day and thank you.

Tip: You can use a large enough socket (5/8 or bigger) and a hammer to tap the press-on retaining washer into place. Be sure to leave just a little bit of play so that the bearings are not pressed against. If the bearings have constant side pressure, they will fail prematurely.

Thanks SO much for this video! It saved me much time and grief. So much easier than trying to replace the tube - how anyone can get a tire on one of those rims is beyond me. Wish I seen your video BEFORE I bought a replacement tube, lol. But better late…. Anyway, I am a grateful new fan of your channel! ❤

previously i followed another video using a chisel and hammer to break the washer, but thank you for your method gave me the idea of using a vise grip, i didn't use wd-40, first it slips, i tighten the vise grip squeezing the washer harder until the washer deforms a bit and turns counter clockwise, and it comes off even easier,.....also I bought the wheel from harbor freight on sale for 3.99, much better than the original wheel

I searched forever before I found out the name of that part: "Axle Cap" (I kept finding vids where the wheel was held on with a cotter pin). As it turns out - I have the EXACT SAME dolly (what are the freakin chances?? LOL, thanks, and great vid; helped me get it done. :)))

Thank you for this video! I really appreciated how you showed in real time (not a sped up/heavily cut video) how to remove the axle caps (I didn't know what they were called before; now I won't sound like a dunce if I have to ask questions at the hardware store). Also- that there was a demonstration of what to do when you have stuff that really stuck together! Thanks again- great job!!!

So the tire went flat on my hand truck last night. I decided to replace it using flat free tires and ordered them this morning from Amazon. I then decided to see if I could find a video that would show me how to replace the tires. I was surprised to see you had the exact same hand truck as me. I was even more surprised to see you were replacing them with the same tires I just ordered from Amazon. LOL It doesn't get any better than that. Thank you. This was a HUGE help

Thank you for this video, I have been trying to get that axle cap off all afternoon using your method with screwdriver prying it up. But I did more searching here on YT, and found it would be much easier taking it off using vice grips, getting a good tight grip on it, then just twisting back and forth as you pull up on it. That eliminates using channel locks or pliers, always having to re-position them. And when putting that axle cap back on, get a 5/8" socket, it will fit right over the axle an on to the axle cap Then just pound it down with a hammer, shoves it down with equal pressure all around instead of using a screwdriver little by little. But props to you for doing it!

Thanks to your video I saved my hand truck dolly, it now has a second chance of life, the plastic wheel broke and now will be upgrading to a better quality wheel in general. At first I was ready to toss it out and have the city come pick it up as bulk item trash, your video helped me avoid that and fix it. Cheers, Danny C Los Angeles CA.

I struggled for hours trying to pry off a frozen retaining ring using a screwdriver and a hammer. But then I had an epiphany and attached a huge wrench to the square shank screwdriver and twisted. The ring came off in 3 minutes. Thank you, Archimedes.

THANK YOU. There are about 50 videos on RU-vid of this same problem, made by macho tool guys. And half of them are "remove the cap (not gonna show you how to do that), boom, next put the new tire on" which is COMPLETELY UNHELPFUL. The other half are, "break the cap, drill five holes in various places using three different power tools, and jerry rig your own unofficial system of keeping the wheel in place". Which is even worse. This is the only video that not only shows how it's SUPPOSED to go on, but explains the steps involved.

Interesting for that type of hand truck which go as low as 50 to 60 dollars a typical person should just buy a new hand truck versus replacing it with tires that cost just the same. Especially since these marathons hold only 300 pounds roughly, using pneumatic tires can handle way over 500lbs to 1000lbs and is cheaper. For the sake of seeing how to change a wheel this totally makes sense and is helpful.

Good job. I also , like many, had issues with the axle cap also known as a pressure washer. I ended up putting a small hole in it with a drill. Waiting for my replacement wheels . Not sure if I can reuse the axle cap, so I am attempting to drill a small hole in the axle and use a cotter/hitch pin. Thanks for your video.

@@Toolboxdiva Thanks! I actually ended up cheating lol. I hammered on the backside of each wheel and they both popped off. I originally wanted to do that just to create a little space so I could grab that washer. Next thing I knew the tire popped off. But I did break both washers, so I'll hafta get a couple of those lol. Thanks

Flat Free. Never heard of it. I just bought a few regular wheels from Harbor Freight. I wish I would have saw this. But the new tires brought life back to my old hand truck. My hand truck is one of those Dusty things I put away until I need it. But when I do need it I have to air up the tires. I really need to reconsider the "flat free" option. But thank you for the insight.

Thank you for the informative video, unfortunately my wheels refuse to come off. I think one of them stays on w/o this washer and with the load on. It doesn't seem like the bearing is rusted onto the axle, but could it be?

The wooden block is not actually the best way to insert the cap. People think differently and have better or more innovative ideas. I used a plastic tube and it went right in, you can also use a tool socket, but a wooden block? Sometimes you come I see videos for help, and ended up seeing bad ideas. Sorry to be honest.
