This is a video of how to replace your water pump on your BMW and 740 4.4. Replacing your water pump is not that hard to do. The biggest part of replacing you water pump is knowing how to. Take a look at are website: how2fixvideos.com
Thank you! BTW, this is the same process on a 2003 Range Rover HSE, for those that might be wondering! (fill tank is in a different spot is the only difference, literally)
Thank you for this video! Saved me a ton of time in without a manual! I did use an after market so let's see how long this one lasts. Everything on this car is an an order of magnitude more difficult but I love the car!
A lot I can attest from personal experience with a 7 series and a 540i. If you don't have time money and patience, just buy a newer one with less than a 100k miles. Amazing driving cars, when they are working.
Just seen your video I know this is an old video. Can you tell me what to do if I can’t get those pipes out of the back of the water pump. Thanks Mike.
They have 2 belt tensioners one for the A/C one for the rest. There are 2 bolts in each tensioner, one bolt in the middle the tension and one bolt has a slot. It pivots on the center bolt. It has a place to put a wrench to hold tight then you can tighten the bolt with the slot. Both tensioners are spring loaded.
I just did my water pump and wen I go to bleed the system no bubbles come up but instead coolant shoots out of the bleeder and the radiator cap hole do u have any clue why
I am guessing this happens after it runs a couple of minutes. If so there is a air pockets and when the coolant hits the air pockets it boils and pushes the coolant out. Sometimes it can be hard to get all the air out. You can fill the reservoir all the way up and just wait, keep adding to it until it stay full ( if it is to much coolant you can take some out later ). The other thing you can try is to take the top radiator hose off and dump coolant it until it is full this will go in the block.
Was the fan clutch messed up on it causing the water pump bearings to give? Or quality of part? I’m about to knock one out and I definitely don’t want this happening.
Leaving your new parts and parts to reuse on the ground is pretty bad though lol...otherwise useful video. Using a sharp metal object to remove those 2 o-rings will cause some minor damage, and if they've been in there that long, it's rather casual not to fit new ones anyway IMO as the cost is nothing compared with the water pump. I'd be tempted to put in a new thermostat whilst I was down there as I hear they don't last that long either.
The two pipes doe the water pump I have some decay on the tips do you recommend any solution before you have to pull the engine to replace. I have a 1994 740 il
If you remove the water pump and intake manifold you can get the water pipes out. You could clean them up, or buy new ones if needed. Be sure to replace the O-rings.
If it is a gasket I like to use a little high tack gasket sealer. The rubber o rings don't need anything I never had a problem with rubber o rings sealing. Just make sure the o rings don't get cut and go on the right way.
It would be impossible to put the pipes on wrong they are different size. I don't know where you have a leak but the rubber o rings could be on wrong or cut. The auto transmission has a water cooler to cool the transmission fluid it is on the drivers side close to the block down low. It has plastic fittings on it I broke them before I think the plastic gets brittle. If you have a leak I would ck all your gaskets and O- rings first it is easy for something to slip out of place.
Blood, sweat, and fucking tears. I even had a ratcheting wrench and it took me almost an hour. And ive done n62 valve covers lol. Better to take the balancer off and have wverything go smoothly. But on the other hand I have never removed a balancer on any car, I hear its a bitch as well. Need the right tools.
How about you actually show us how to remove the parts needed in order to access the pump? That's what most people want to see. The whole point it these videos is to show people the step by step process in order to get to and remove the part in need of repair/replacement.
Worked out good, it took a lot of time ( 18-19 hours ) but the car runs better. The ck engine light was coming on and going off before now it is staying off.
Glenn 3505 I have a 97' 540i I am going to be tackling the valley pan gasket and might as well do the water pump and all gaskets inbetween. ever do that job?
I promise you don’t have to go that far to replace that expansion tank hose. I pulled my shroud and squeezed my hand behind the fan and got to it easily.
The coolant has nothing to do with it. Cheap chineese parts do, china cant build a bearing or cast aluminum worth a shit for the prices of their pumps. I have never had a napa, auto value, auto zone ect. part last longer then 10k km.
