Thanks for the video! I always appreciate videos for my 3.0 V6. For the spring: I ripped the old air intake tube in half. Easy to do if there is a hole already. Then I pull the engine side off easily off the small pipe. Then I take the whole housing to a table and used two small headed flatted headed screw drivers. One to hold one clip side in place while pushing the other off. When I went to put the spring on, I folded the tube inwards and slid the spring on. Then I put the intake tube, with the spring already on, onto the filter housing. Pushed to match up the notch that is on top of the housing. Not too hard. Not extremely easy. I hope this made sense to help anyone.

I used a small pick tool to remove that spring, for anyone struggling to remove it. Must have tool in my opinion for this part. I installed the spring back on the new hose after I attached it to the car. I used the same small pick tool to grab one hook of the air intake hose while my thumb held the other side of the spring, and with enough pulling, I got the hook to reach the other and connect.

My tips: if the duct is nearly in 2 pieces after changing the air filter - compress the hose a little - add a big hose clamp between the hose and the filter housing. I could still drive and not worry about unfiltered air intake. I just installed that spring clamp onto the Filter Housing then rolled it onto the Intake Hose - using a piece of metal bent 90 deg, a bent screwdriver, then a long standard screwdriver. A rear brake starwheel adjuster tool = a big bent screwdriver, really.

Honestly really don't need the little spring that comes with the kit because I didn't install it on mine and I never had a problem with it coming off or anything like the hose itself is tight enough.

So that garter spring was very difficult to get off, but I was able to use some nylon pry bars because unhooking would be near impossible. For installation I wrapped the spring around the air box first, inserted the hose then use the same nylon pry bars to pry it on.
@alberoDiSpazio
@alberoDiSpazio Год назад
During installation of the garter spring you may find that the intake hose is not flushed with the air box, and because the spring is so tight it will not budge any further. To remedy this problem temporarily move the spring to the 2nd rib of the intake hose, this should ease the fitting. I also applied a very thin coat of silicone lube on the outer lip of the air box - silicone is safe on rubber.

GREAT video . I noticed you have a map sensor. Do you have a mass air flow sensor as well ,or does the map sensor take it's place? I read a blog stating you cant have both. My 2003 3.0 accord manual trans. was purchased with a aftermarket cold air intake. I want to change it back to OEM. I have a MAP sensor on the aftermarket throttle body and cant locate a plug for a MAF sensor that usually plugs into the air filter box. Husband definitely cussed up a storm taking apart and installing the new hose. Lol. Do you have any suggestions on inserting the metal tubing into the new hose? That was difficult.
@KnuckleHeadGarage27
@KnuckleHeadGarage27 5 лет назад
Well I have installed the new hoses on these vehicles and others like this without that metal spring and had no issues at all without it because that's a tight snug fit so once it's all tight and togeather it will be just fine and isn't shouldn't go anywhere . 🛠
@sandypatton7118
@sandypatton7118 5 лет назад
CD'S Automotive & Repair Oh I’m not talking about the spring I’m talking about that metal pipe from the intake that you said you should let cool down if you drove the car. That was hard to remove and put back in. It was hard to remove at first because it was dry rotted/melted.
@KnuckleHeadGarage27
@KnuckleHeadGarage27 5 лет назад
@@sandypatton7118 yeah if I'm changing it I would just cut that part off the rubber part off around that metal pipe so I can slid it out or off and then putting the new one in I would recommend putting some silicones spray you're some kind of like WD-40 with your finger rub it around the inside of that hose were that pipe goes inside of or rub it around the pipe and then shove it inside the house and it should go run in without a problem that'll give it some type of lubricant and it would dry up and not even hurt the hose or anything else without a problem

i went to try and change the air filter, and notice the air filter is missing 2 screws. after I struggled to push the air filter housing into the hose / engine ( ithink i didnt' crack it) i extracted the filter but likely put the filter in backweards or upsidown. i will try to detect filter with the old one to match up. will having no screws on the top of the air filter housing destroy the compression timing of the pistons and valves ? or just bring in dirty air to result in poor engine performance? i think in my situation with only 1 screw / bolt combo i extracted, how do i install the screw and bolt combo to the air filter housing?
@KnuckleHeadGarage27
@KnuckleHeadGarage27 Год назад
Having one or two of those screws missing for the air filter boxes isn't going to harm anything I have seen and I mean very very badly ones that have been taped together and still ran fine or completely plugged up filters an the vehicle's ran fine and you never noticed it unless you pulled air filter box and check the filter and notice how bad they are because a lot of people don't change them out as well as the cabin air filter inside the cars
@rennakanote
@rennakanote Год назад
@@KnuckleHeadGarage27 Took me like 25 minutes to set up my table, get the tools ready, pop out that hose, double check the air filter was seated correctly, and reinstall with the 1 screw I have. I was able to extract the left over pieces of 2 of the other screws that previous mechanics weren't so gentle with....Took it for a drive going 65+ for liek 20 minutes and the hose + air filter housing seemed solid with just the 1 screw. I'm going to have the dealer do the Transmission fluid flush & i'll ask if they can hook it up with 2 or 3 more screws for the air filter housing to get it fastened down 100%. The idea of not securing it with x4 screws or tape/zip ties for the filter is not good since the air / fuel / oil ratios is so important to combustion style engines. The V6 has 244 or 266 HP and dips quick if you maintain it right so if its $10 to put the official screws in to securely fasten the filter in, count me in.
@KnuckleHeadGarage27
@KnuckleHeadGarage27 Год назад
If it was me I would go to junkyard and find a replacement Air Box for it cause I did to mine and others I've worked on but it's hard to find in good shape . Also I Wouldn't ever flush a transmission especially on a honda , no-one knows this but they actually have a filter to change it's on top of the transmission and goes in on its side on top . I would definitely change that and just change the fluid and call it good I bet no-one has ever changed that filter either
@rennakanote
@rennakanote Год назад
@@KnuckleHeadGarage27 Dealership suggested transmission fluid service. I can't remember if it was a flush or change, but I haven't done one in a while. I don't live by a high volume junkyard anymore. If I did, i'd go and extract the screws there for sure and get it good.

According to the diagrams I have seen (Hondapartsnow.com), the air filter was installed correctly. The "deeper part", or the body of the filter, is supposed to be installed facing upward, instead of downward. If it fits both ways, I don't know how much of a difference it would make, performance-wise, but just wanted to get that info out there.
