Just did one on an old house in Flagstaff, yeah it's Aridzona but here at 7,000+ feet ASL, it snows! I might suggest only this, the only freezeless fawcet I could find at the big box hardware stores were all 1/2 inch, I needed 3/4 so off to the adapters Easter Egg Hunt! And, This Place had one inch galvanized right behind the old one so there was a grounding wire, lamp cord, which was not hooked up. No matter how well we Leak Proof our work, any exterior plumbing MUST be well grounded and, the Teflon tape doesn't stop cathodic reaction but will add BooCoo resistance. Lightning kills, grounding saves Lives.

I noticed that in the video. I either use tape or dope. I have never used both on the same connection. Dope on metal, with tape on plastic most of the time. Tape on shower heads though, because you need to turn it until it's straight down. Dope gets tight sometimes before it's straight.

The plastic wedge right behind the valve is what angles the faucet downward when screwed to the wall. So no need to shim the pipe. But maybe that wasn’t possible with your install?

Thanks for the video. I am in western Canada. We have a lot of water main breaks due to shifting (due to Gumbo soil/clay). The city will be relining our water mains to extend the life cycle of the water infrastructure. During the relining process, water will be delivered to our houses via the front exterior faucet/hydrant. They have specified that we "Ensure that the tap does not include any backflow preventers." My question is this: Does anyone know if the anti-siphon/backflow mechanism can be temporarily disabled on the these hydrants, e.g., the one linked in the description?

That water was flooding against your foundation. Consider adding drainage rocks or a french drain or a plastic shield or gutter downspout diverter, etc., to keep the water away from the edge of the house.

Add this to your valve selection as the unit needs to be long enough to extend into the warm part of the building. I made this mistake and one cold night it froze and ruptured the pipe before the valve

@theaceofspades39
@theaceofspades39 3 года назад
Any NPT fitting (national pipe thread) requires teflon tape and/or pipe dope to seal. The tape/dope is creating the seal meaning you don't necessarily need to crank on the fitting for it to seal. Turn the fitting until it's relatively snug and in the right position but again it doesn't need to be put on as tight as you can possibly get it

ALL of my joints are sweated with solder I know this because I replaced one. My nephews were too. Unfortunately, he wasn't a RU-vid guy and he owned a pipe wrench. He didn't turn off the water supply and when he finally twisted it enough to break the copper pipe his basement started filling with water. Enough to ruin his carpet and some low-standing furniture. Also, the pressure I get coming into the house is stronger than 300 psi. That's what the plumber said when he replaced my hot water heater while I was in the hospital. I don't believe any Teflon hose would last and I don't want to lose the pressure because of my sprinkler system.

U didn't use a long enough frost proof,it needs to be in the home,not in the wall.

Peter Boissiere hahaha he didn’t like your comment. Plus you still need a shutoff even if it’s non freeze. Now you have to shut down the entire house to service 1 tap, plus it’s code in most county’s

@@andreyyaromich8277 he points to the shut off at the beginning of the video. As long as the inside of the house is warm the frost free is deep enough.

Even Flow that’s the main shutoff, he pointed to the original outside shutoff which he removed because he said he was converting to pex, (doesn’t make sense) ( converting to pex after the valve would have made sense) sooo I’m saying again no shutoff is installed to isolate this hydrant

You don’t have to put a wooden wedge l use the plastic white spacer that comes with spigot , just slip it behind the collar on the outside before screwing to the wall, Einstein

Sillcock valve is too short your shutoff valve is not long enough to avoid the potential frost. Also, Why eliminate the original valve if you ever have to replace it again? Also plumbers tape and pipe dope is redundant
@keithwalker5078
@keithwalker5078 Год назад
IMO you should do the normal one first and THEN do one with the pex added as this one is confusing and uneccessary

You have idiots trying to open these 3 or 4 turns. This damages the O rings inside and the valve has to be removed & replaced. I've been through 3 of these. The old NIB, as it was called, lasted 50 years. Also, careful because Mr telephone likes to use the casing for ground. You may have to buy a ground rod or move the clamp inside. You can use the square styrofoam boxes on your nibs to save them. Also, they make heat tape for mobile homes to warm the line inside.

If your pipe is not chrome plated on the inside, my comment doesn't apply. I found that label on a chrome sillcock faucet months after I bought it and saw the pipe was chrome plated on the inside. I didn't understand and found out chrome can be toxic. EPA sets limits of chrome in water to 6 parts per billion. I have no idea how much chrome can get into a water line if the faucet sits all winter unused.
