Hiii! I broke some of the hinges and thinking of buying new keycaps. Is this new Macbook air m1 have the hinge and size as the retina (early 2020) or any other previous Macbook Air?

Perfect! Thank you!! It is very easy to change them if you fllow the instructions!! And just make sure that it is your macbook model, because not all of them are the same!!! I just can imagine that the ones that you had trouble changing them is that you don't have this macbook model!!!!!!

This video helped me reinstall my "\|" key, thank you. I broke the hinge when I was uninstalling it, so I ordered a new one and it works very well! I don't have the depressed key issue, so I'm wondering if those who are experiencing that lost the rubber cup in the center of the hinge.

Just a cautionary tail...I wouldn't do this unless you really need to! I had something stuck under my left 'Option' key so I watched this video to remove it and clean it. When I put it back, it would no longer pop up like it was suppose to so I could press it down. It was just depressed and flat. So I took it off again and fiddled with the hinge. In doing so I ended up breaking a tiny piece of the hinge that is used to hold the hinge to the computer. I contacted Apple and they wont sell individual hinges. I have no Apple store nearby so the only option they gave me was to send my computer in to have the entire keyboard replaced. I don't need a new keyboard. I need 1 simple freaking hinge. I ended up purchasing a new option key for about $14 shipped from a site I found through google. What a pain in the arse.

my R key is getting stuck. Its not stuck all the time but its repeating key time to time and my laptops new like a month old. It started to act like this from week 1 but I ignored it thinking it will go away. so i am not sure if anythings sticking under it. should i do take off my key and clean it? I am scared of breaking it.Btw its m1 mbp.

Hi. Could you help me out? I'm out of the country and dont have access to an applestore. I removed the delete key 2 times, because I thought it was sticky. Turned out to be clean. Never figured out the problem. I was able to follow the steps to replace it the first time. However the second time the key stayed flat, as if there wasn't a rubbercup or whatever allows the key to float. But it's still there. What can I do?

Hi guys, Thanks for the video! Unfortunately I found this video after I already screwed up my "E" letter. I think I accidentally lost that rubber cup which will be place on the other rubber thingy tin the inside. I didn't notice that it flew away when I removed the key so I am curious where to get another one. It seems like that other, older MacBooks didn't have a loose rubber cup, am I right? Thanks for the help in advance.

Im having an issue putting my return key back in. It won’t pop up and just stays down. There are no visible damages. Just trying my best to put it in the way you put the delete button back in. If you’re able to provide some input that would be great

Great to finally see a video for the 2020, but, I need to replace the right arrow key and it is opposite the function key you show. When I try to slide the key cap back on, the right side (side with single hook) always pops up and it only stays attached on the left side. Any ideas? I slide in from the left first, just for fun also tried from right side, same result.

What do I do if it's simply not snapping back on? I've tried so many times now and my "V" key, after removing the cap to clean the inside, is not popping back on, I've checked and there's nothing broken, originally it popped in too much and stayed down so it wouldn't have the bounciness like the other keys, but now it's just simply not staying, I'm pretty sure only the top part of the key is locking in, but the bottom part doesn't seem to want to be popping back in. What should I do?

every time I try press down my "- " key it gets stuck down like it won't pop back up but just stay sunken and stuck in the keyboard. I have to use a blackhead remover to get it out again every time. does anyone know a solution that could fix this?

Fixed it. Thank you very much. It was the space bar and i didnt even have to remove the entire bar. Only the left edge was mushy so I decided to remove it because brushing it was not working. As I remove the damaged edge (lower left) I try the spacebar again and turns out it's working normaly Lol

Thank you! I spilled a little Gatorade on my keyboard and it caused my spacebar key to get stuck every once in a while and it also lost its click. This video was very helpful in showing me how these switches work and I was able to get my spacebar working good as new.

At first it didn't work for me but that was because of an error at my end. The upper clasps had snapped so wouldn't click on. A replacement key was needed. Worked first time then

Really pretty bummed that you didn't show the spacebar. It is on the same keyboard, but definitely works a little bit differently. It was nice that you show different types, but I'm still looking for someone that focuses on that very unique key.

For the M2 I would prise from the bottom. Everything is about discounting and reconnecting the bottom clips on the keys. I had to change 30 keys from a German to English key board! Also you want to press the keys at the bottom to reconnect otherwise the key doesn't sit very well.

My key "W" is stuck down and it doesnt go back up again. Should i use this method how you did in that first repair in this video.

Anyone know if this guide applies to the M2 MacBook Air too? I have been typing on the Dvorak layout for over two years now and going back to qwerty would be a huge handicap for me, I literally can't type on qwerty anymore, so if I could rearrange the keys on my new M2 Air that would truuuuly be awesome. Although if I can't I guess it won't be too much of an issue, considering I'm touch typing this comment directly on the MacBook Air (with the layout set to Dvorak) regardless of the wrong physical layout, it would just be nice to have the physical keyboard match my layout settings, but I'm pretty nervous about digging the keys out of my 1day old MacBook which costs over 1.2k GBP... Plus Apple told me it would almost definitely void the warranty, which would be extremely bad if I broke something by trying to rearrange the keys

I got some issues with the backspase. It was a bit tough to press. So I removed it to see if there is something broken. I saw your directions here, it clicks back nicely but now it doest retract back at all 😐 any ideas?!

My arrow key popped out on one side, the left side that doesn’t have the hooks. I took the whole key off to try and put it back on and the left side won’t go back in

I've been using a keyboard cover because I'm so worried about dust getting under my keys. But damn I like the way the computer looks without a cover...and the cover also blocks out the key lights which is a big bummer for me. Should I worry so much?

my guy I have had this macbook for 1 month and the left Shift feels liek hell. like it feels Way harder then my right shift and doesnt even register the Clicks.

Great guide for those who have a damaged keyboard! However, if you only need to clean out some debris underneath the cap then this probably isn't necessary. Instead, take a clean, fine-tipped interdental brush, and carefully introduce it under a face of the affected key. Then, very carefully, slide the brush along the axis of the edge of the key. What you're trying to do is sweep out any crumbs or matter from underneath the key-cap. Go around all 4 faces several times, slowly and carefully, and you should be able to push out any loose matter.
