He missed 2 steps: 1.removing the third screw for the knee panel which is located under the Radio. 2. Skipped removing the metal part that allow you to remove the filter straight without bending them. Newer filter like Fram breeze with carbon are hard to bend and may crack, so you need to remove that metal part. Other videos are more clear about this point.

Exactly correct. Took me 5 minutes to figure out why the hell the glovebox wasn't coming out when I found that screw on the center bottom tab of the glove box holding it in place.

When the filters are taken out, they are in a frame. You remove the old filters from the frame and insert the new filters into the frame(making sure the arrows on the filter and the filter frame both point to the left). In this video, the installer did not put the filters back into the frame before reinstalling the filters into the housing.
@1AAuto
@1AAuto 5 лет назад
+KeepItSimple The main objective of this video was showing how to remove the glove box to get to the filter, which most people have trouble with. The rest is pretty self explanatory

the replacement filters I bought fit perfectly in the frames, and the frames fit perfectly in the space, so I used them, as they surely seem to be meant to be permanent.
@1575murray
@1575murray 3 года назад
I was about to comment on this as well. The old filters come out of the frames so the new ones can fit into them and they are to be reinstalled (not the way this was done in the video).
@SerJorahBorealis
@SerJorahBorealis 3 года назад
100% the frames are meant to be permanent. The effectiveness of the filters would be significantly reduced without them, as seen in the video (and when I tried without the frames) there is like a 1" gap.

Very helpful, thanks. My 1998 Accord LX had an additional screw on the left side of the knee panel. I had to remove the small square panel above the storage tray, forward of the shift knob. Then remove the one screw holding the upper left corner of that knee panel. Also, I think you can install the new paper filters inside of the plastic frames you removed. In your video, you didn't seem to replace the plastic filter frames. All in all, it was easier than I thought.

We currently do not have an auto repair video that shows this repair on a right hand drive application. It could be in the same position on the other side of the car if there is a cabin filter.

After unscrewing the three Phillips head screws under the box, check below the center one for one more on the bottom bracket. Video doesn’t mention it.

I recently pulled a dead mouse out of my wife's fan blades. Honda made the fan a snap to get out, and the smell went away with the mouse. Might be worth look if your problems persist despite running the heater on hot for a while. Don't wait til his nearly decapitated head starts hitting the frame whack whack whack (like she did) unless you like using pliers to remove the dried bits. :P

WARNING--Some accords from this era have a couple more screws than shown in this video which must be removed to remove glove box assembly. My 2000 Accord SE had an additional screw under a pop-off cover in the center console area which attached the panel below the glove box; also there was another screw (lower than the three he removes) which needed to be removed to release the glove box.
@1575murray
@1575murray Год назад
On my car the mechanic who previously worked on the car left the screw under the radio out and put it in the glove box. He also left out one other screw which I eventually replaced. Needless to say he doesn't work on my car anymore and I have replaced the cabin air filters two or three times myself saving me a lot of money. I remove the lower brace as it makes it easy to pull the filters straight out to avoid breaking the plastic frames.

Now you need to do a 2002 model. It is DIFFERENT. It has an extra screw at the very bottom of the glove box. I noticed in your video the bottom screw was missing. The panel crossmembers are different also, and require removal because one of them holds the door in place.
@1575murray
@1575murray Год назад
Many mechanics leave some of the screws out to save time and try to beat the flat rate hours so they can make more money. The missing screws go to their collection.

There is a plastic housing on the original filter. the ones you buy replace the old ones but you must reuse the plastic mold on the old one or else the new filter will just jiggle around

WARNING!! WARNING!! There is a screw that holds the glove box in place. It is located at the bottom middle of the glove box. At 2:36, you can see the metal retainer it goes into. This little missing step caused me to dismantle my glove box thinking it was just stuck on something.

1:08 - There seems to be a step missing before removing this panel. It's first removing the panel in the forward pocket of the center console.
