C/V joints are what transfers the power from the transmission to your wheels, so it's crucial to have them in inspected and replaced if necessary. The common issues they have are torn boots and or noisy or broken joints. This will cause a loud noise while the car is in motion. Boots that are torn will allow road dirt in and the grease packed inside of them out. Advice for home mechanics: If you need to hammer the threaded end of a bolt, screw the nut on until the top surface of the nut is flush with the end of the bolt, then hit it.

Forgot one of the most important parts. On the automatic cars the passenger side axle needs the small stub shaft transfered on to the new axle.

Use a railroad nail and a hammer to remove your axel if it is stuck. I tried using a pry bar to get it out and it flexed too much for me. Railroad nail popped it right out no problem at all. On my 05 sunfire

You can also remove the driveshaft by loosening the ball joint and dropping the control arm. I think this is a better method, since the shock tower bolt holes are 'oval-ish' and linked with the alignment on these vehicles.

Puting the nut back on flush will also protect the threads if you don't have 2 x 4's laying around the shop. Great video though!

It might be a good idea to mention that the plastic lug nut cap only need to be hand tight to avoid striping them. Many people don't know this.

Should you apply grease to the splines to prevent wearing? I've heard conflicting info. Also, what's the best way to line up that retaining clip as you slide it in (likely on my back since I don't have a lift)

will it need to be service alignment If I already got my steering wheel alignment again on my 03 Chevy Cavalier Ecotec ? Will it break if I dont get them replace for another month or will it just gather dirt into the CV joint time to time ?

What is the specific name of the "clip" that is already inside the transaxle that is mentioned around the 4:54 mark to the 5:00 mark ? I believe he said [it locks the transaxle in place]. Thanks much in advance folks !

The same for 4 speed? It appears to be the same on my 2002 but I think mine is a 4 speed.

The fluid that leaks out. Is that gear oil or transmission fluid. Ive been looking it up and its says my 03 cavalier uses ATF dex 3 equivalent which seems weird. Putting ATF in a standard but two sites say it. Valvolines site and one other fluid maker.

Use a shit ton of grease to help keep the ring in place when you're trying to insert it. Although you probably have it done by now, for future reference.

I didn't see you torque the 30 mm nut on the axle .. but anyway I've got one I can't get it out of the transaxle idk why any suggestions?

+Glenn Manchester Thank you for watching. To remove the CV axle from the transmission you will need to take a rubber mallet or similar and from the backside use some force. This will "pop" the axle and locking ring out of the vehicle for replacement. Depending on if your vehicle is a 1998 - 2001 then the torque should be set for 144 ft lbs, and if your vehicle is a 2002 - 2005 then you should torque the 30mm nut to 148 ft lbs. 1aauto.com
