You also need to tell people to be sure the screws in the door knob are on the INSIDE! INSIDE the closet, INSIDE the bedroom, INSIDE the bathroom. I just purchased a rental house and EVERY doorknob in the entire house had been put on backwards. I had to replace every single door knob. I would have changed them anyway because they were ugly, but just saying.. be sure to put your door knobs on the right way people!

OMG! In all my years of changing doorknobs no one has ever shown me about taking the knob off. I Usually put paint tape over a screwdriver and try not to scratch it. I just remodeled a bathroom and now I can put on the doorknob so easy!!

Thank you so much! My instructions had not addressed how to remove the knob. It wasn't quite the same but I was able to figure it out after I watched your video. Even the men at Home Depot couldn't tell me how to install my door knob.

how would i make a bigger hole for a 1950's knob to a 2020 lever type knob? I have heard from 3 people that it can't be done...but i think they (yes, all 3) are wrong!

There is a way, but it depends on where the new knob hole has to go. If it can center over the old one you'll be fine. Use this tutorial and get one of the hole drilling jigs shown: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QmQDQpsHLPA.html If it can't be centered over the hole, you'll need to plug the hole first with solid wood, then re-drill. A woodworker or restoration professional may be able help do this.

Thank you! I had to exchange the type of door handle that I originally purchased because I didn't want to have to cut out the notch in the door. I was able to correctly identify the type of collar I wanted and the wonderful local hardware store was able to get me set up. The only issue I had was aligning the screws back up, mine did not have the latch to remove the knob to see better.

But the side of the door knob that has the key hole won’t come off? It’s like all stuck to everything on the inside? I also can’t take that metal plate off of the side of the door that’s shown at 0.40, there’s no screws on it?

Your videos are so helpful! I’m subscribing because I want to do more projects around my home without paying someone. I just changed all the door handles in my house. What I didn’t know was that the lock actually adjusts for the depths of the door lock!

The static image for this video in the RU-vid catalog, shows a door with different type of latch hardware/strike plate than the author actually worked on in the video. Downvoted for wasting my time looking for a different tutorial. Yes, the details mattered.
