Just another quick video showing the replacement of the front brake pads on a 2012 Nissan Altima. This will be the same or similar for other years as well.
Just a quick note on this one, I had originally missed the retainer clip that needs to go into the loop at the top of the pad and had to take them back off to do it right.
The little metal loop on the pad is also the brake squealer or noisemaker when it scratches the brake pad, but by putting the small metal tab into the loop, it also acts as a pad return and keeps the brake pads from dragging on the rotor.
Tools needed:
14mm socket and/or wrench
large flathead screwdriver/small prybar
Or
Large C-Clamp or Caliper Compression tool used in the video
Thanks for watching!

YOU NEED TO CLEAN THE RESERVOIR CAP BEFORE REMOVING IT AND USING TISSUE PAPER LEAVES A LOT OF LINT IN THE RESERVOIR

Nice job! My only suggestion based upon experience is that when using the tool to press the caliper pistons back, you should wipe any visible dirt and grime from any visible piston area before pushing the dirt into the boot and cylinder. Also it is wise ( again based on experience) to gently, slowly turn the tool in slow smooth turns to send the piston back. I have gotten too aggressive with the turning of the knob and blown fluid past the seals, necessitating a new caliper or rebuild. Which is another important reason to loosen the top of the master cylinder. Anyway, nice job and thanks for the video. I am doing an Altima for a friend and this was helpful!!

Thank you so much I have been replacing my own brake pads for a while and I still learned 2 or 3 different things I didn't know before!

Never use a paper towel. It can deteriorate into the master cylinder.

Super video…thx! Would this be the same procedure on a 2012 3.5 SR V6 coupe Altima…?

Great video. About those clips at the 5:00 mark, I think many people don't realize how they go in. On my car, the previous mechanic just had those unattached and the brakes were squealing. Thank you for pointing that out in detail!

After replacing these pads will the "check brake light" go off on the dash?

so you show us to install the clips in the brake pads, but then install the caliper without the pads in that little retaining clip

Yes, I had to reshoot that part the next morning. If you watch at around the 5 minute mark it shows what I had missed and then took them off to show my mistake and reinstall them correctly. But the rest of the video shows them in wrong. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

Am I seeing it correct, the upper slide pin doesn't have the rubber washer at the end like the bottom slide pin?

Yes, usually only one slide pin has the rubber bushing. Thanks for watching! -Dan the Fix it Man

@@DantheFixitMan I'm hoping to get lucky with a quick response like last time haha do you happen to know the correct location of the pin with the rubber bushing on the rear passenger side caliper? I ask because the video notes the rubber bushing on the bottom side for the front. I took my rear passenger one apart and the rubber bushing pin was in the top hole. I also want to note the bottom pin was fairly stuck and corroded in comparison to the top pin. I believe my brakes to be responsible for an awful noise while slowing down like something is stuck and this all seems to be adding up if the pins were in the wrong location. Thanks again!

@@aaronjarvis4147 Hi Aaron, I am not positive for this vehicle, but I usually see it on the bottom slide pin. It does help with dampening vibrations that cause noise. Hopefully once you get them all cleaned up it will get rid of the noise for you. Best of luck to you! -Dan the Fix it Man
