Thanks, and one thing was different on my 1995 Legacy Wagon. It only had one 14mm bolt at the bottom of the caliper. Once that was out the caliper lifted up then just slid off the top slider. I wasted a bit of time trying to work out why I couldn’t undo the top “bolt” only to find out that it wasn’t a bolt at all.

Thanks, I'm about to replace the calipers on my wife's 96 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon and this video helped me feel a lot more confident about doing so.

Mike, I'm the guy that called your shop and spoke with Sue about 15 min. ago. She was a great help. I have watched a bunch of "how to do front brakes" videos in the last few days to refresh myself but it soon turned into a comedy night. There are some serious hacks out there. Pad slappers that didn't use a micrometrer, (one video says you can eye the old pads to see if the rotors are ok) dirty hands handling new pads and rotors etc I wanted you to know your a real pro. Your video is a sales tool

It sounds like you're on the right path. Sometimes they can be a little hard to remove but usually aren't that tough.

Good work Guys I couldn't find any footage that explained positioning of the small clip on inner front pad. Torque info much appreciated also. Cheers

Thanks! great video. For anyone with a super rusted seized rotor. There are two screw holes in the stock rotor. just find a bolt that fits and ratchet it in. rotor pops right off.

Had to stop on my 09 legacy because I couldn't figure out how to retract the pistons to fit the new pads in the caliper. Thank you for the cheap and simple idea!

Thank you so very much for this video! I am trying to become an airplane mechanic and I tend to be a visual learner. Now I know how to get the Calipers off. I have a Haninze (spelling) Subaru 1992-1996 Subaru manual, but nothing beats a great video! I removed the tires off all 4 wheels and removed the break pads off the right wheel (labled where each part goes in seporate baggies) but wanted to SEE how to take off the calipers. Again Thanks!

Well, I started taking off my caliper. The top bolt seemed to have the bolt head broken off. I used a 10" vice grip to remove what I believed to be a broken bolt, only to discover that it was a STUD! The nut head part was right up against the caliper housing. Now, my stud is scored pretty rough! My Legacy is a 1995. What's up with that?

We currently do not have an auto repair video on that particular vehicle. Some of the basic procedures may be similar to the vehicle that you have.

You may want to see if it's possibly a 16MM on your application.

Is it absolutely necessary to bleed the breaks when changing brake pads and rotors on this car?

What is your rotor size? There are multiple sizes, measure yours and find the right replacement or you will sold whatever. My car a 96 Outback Wagon has dual piston calipers? The front Rotor is 270 mm dia and the rear is 266 MM rear disc diameter. Do your research before you purchase brake parts for your Subaru. You can not use single piston brake pads on a dual piston caliper.

Best thing to do with a stuck slide is to heat the caliper up.Trust me...I had a seized one on my Legacy GT. Used a lighter and it came out easier.

Hey so one out of 4 slides come out. I have one stubborn one that won't budge. I've used WD40 and some locking grips and got it to move slightly but I can't get it out. Been at it for about 6 hours. The other three move just fine. Is there a better way to get it out? I guess I'll just have to forgo it and finish the job cause I need my car now. But let me know if I can do this or not cause right now that slide seems impossible to move all the way out. And what are those slide's technical names?
