Faye's tutorials are always so great. She's one of the few creator's left that shows all the steps so you can actually use her videos to perform the job on your own vehicle. My only request is that i hope she does some Corolla videos since I just got a brand new one this month. 🥰
Faye, the 91 lb-ft is from converting 123 Nm probably. 123 Nm is 90.725 lb-ft, rounded off to 91. Toyota uses SI (SI means Système International or International System, which is the metric system). This is my guess of where the 91 lb-ft is from. Great video btw 👍!
TECH TIP: Most people don't know this but a lot of Toyota's "OE" replacement pads are actually a "Value Line" substitute, you have to specifically ask for the Factory Installed pads if you want what the vehicle originally came with. Thumbs up 👍 this comment to keep it at the top of the list. As always GREAT VIDEO!
Is the parts guy at the Toyota dealership going to look at me funny when i explain that to him? I need to ask for NOT the replacement pads but the pads the car came with when built?
I worked in automotive brake pads manufacturing for over a decade. So if your pads are ceramic, the ceramic pads material tend to crack especially if they get hot. Scorching the pads like these also cause cracking. Always check your pads at the parts store for cracks before purchasing. We used to produce over 11,000 parts in one 8hr shift a day. Something might get missed on occasion. Love the videos, keep them coming!
Good video Faye! Still mad about the whole gender thing 😡. Boys these days don't know the difference between a woman and a tik tok 304 that holds a wrench for a thumbnail. I always appreciate your professional look. Good influence for girls into diy.
Thank you so much on so many levels. Me too, it really bums me out. I try to be pretty so being called a man is hurtful. Then the flip side, the amount of comments that I delete telling me to go back to the kitchen..... I just don't get it. If they don't like my videos, they don't have to watch them. I appreciate the kind words 🙏🏻
@@FayeHadley If Toyota made Kitchen ware I'd spend more time in the kitchen. So until then I'll work in the shop with my husband. MUCH LOVE ❤ D&K auto Cali.
9:06 Couldn't agree with u more Faye using brake part's cleaner only best thing for brakes soap and water solution maybe little messy when removing luv the red calipers aswell for Toyota Tacoma 4x4.
Hey Faye thank u for these how to and instructional vids. I just did front brake pads and rotors on my 2007 fj cruiser that I just purchased as it had a very bad brake squeal when I bought it. Now I'm scratching my head because the brakes feel great but I still have the squeal smh 🤦 after watching this video I see where I may have went wrong. 1. I didn't use the toyota anti squeal shims. 2. I didn't grease the back of the pad. Guess I'll be going back in to perform surgery lol 😆 🙃 I've read on forums this is a common issues with the fjs. That Tacoma looks similar to the fj front brakes as I'm sure same truck in a way and the 4runners. Do u recommend the stop squeal products???? Thanks
The only stop squeal products that I use are the greasing technique and the anti-squeal shims from the dealer!!! Also sometimes if you don't properly break them in they can squeak too, but I've never actually had any issues after doing them this way! And you're right the Tacoma and FJ brakes are extremely similar! Let me know if you end up adding the shims and the grease and please report back with your results! I'm invested now!
First off I love your videos you are so knowledgeable and you go through every step with detail, I just got one thing I want to ask I know when I took my break class for ASE they told me the squeaker clips shouldn't go against the rotation they should go with it opposite of what you showed that way it does not bend and gouge into the rotor it actually flexes away from it and just makes a squeaking instead of a growling sound where it's eating into the rotor.... Give me your opinions if you would and let me know if I'm doing it right.... Thank you very much like I said I do love your videos they have so much detail in them.... I am also a firm believer of cleaning all of the brake rotors and parts with brake cleaner.... My boss used to always yell at me for using too much break cleaner....lol
Hi Faye!! Thanks for your amazing tutorials! I did my rotors and calipers upgrade with the same brand Power stop not too long ago. Power Stop is an amazing!! Can you please do a tutorial for e-brake adjustment for a 2000 Toyota Tacoma please! Thank you!
No wonder Faye’s so cool, she sniffed her glue sticks in class. That’s a good thing cuz she’s much happier bein a tech now than something that requires college and not sniffing glue sticks. Glad I found your channel!! Missed seein ya on tv and now here ya are back on my tv albeit via RU-vid, but still!!! Great job once again Faye!! God bless~
Oh my gosh 😂 thank you for the funny comment!! A new episode of AGG aired this past weekend, and there are still I think 3 more new episodes to finish up the 2023 season!
@@FayeHadley oh wow, of course!!! That’s Awesome!! I was thinking it was cancelled for some reason or you had left. Appreciate that. I’ll definitely check them out. Love the channel though too!
I just installed a lift kit on my 2nd gen 🌮 all by myself... it took me nearly 20 hours to put in new upper/lower control arms, shock/struts, rear leaf springs and rear shocks. Thankfully my company's shop was well equipped for the job and i had a company truck to go home in.
I taught my daughter how to change her pads and rotors when she was in college. Fairly simple with moderate tools. She has done the same for many of her friends saving them hundreds of dollars on brake jobs. She is not a mechanic or anything like it. But she was proud and fascinated by what she learned and has paid it forward.
i want to personslly say thankyou because im a certified advanced tech for toyota so brakes, alignments and d/f are much of my day. your videos help a ton. im still really new to the mechanic world. im a 6 month advanced tech 😂. im a apprentice
Great video, Faye. I would have liked to see you at the SEMA Show this year, but I couldn't make it. Maybe next year? Love the chickens and pumpkins part of your video. Keep up the great work.
Hi Faye, I've got a Loctite question for you. I've always used blue loctite on caliper retaining bolts after a very old and experienced mechanic told me "only use red loctite on things you're prepared to use heat to unfasten". What is your take on this considering you used red loctite? Cheers from Australia!
I watched your videos and then did this on my 3rd gen 4runner. Last week my wife was driving us home from Tn and a deer ran out in front of the truck. She did awesome and the brakes worked perfectly. Her good driving and paired with good tires and 13wl brakes saved our bacon. Thank you for your videos. I've learned a ton from you, and that knowledge has officially saved our butts.
I had an Old timer brake guy tell me that when the cracks come through the brake pads like that it's because there's too much weight on them the centrifugal pressure of the rotor causes the vertical cracks through the pads, the cracking is caused because of the weight issue 🦾😁😇
No need to apologize for a voiceover job. I think it might be the preferred mode for car work. It is often noisy in the shop, the tools are noisy, and physical movements and microphones don't always play well with each other. Thanks for sweating this one out for us.
drilled and slotted rotors warp easier and can also crack. especially with extra weight to stop. Best options are cryo treated slotted rotors/oem rotors and oem ceramic pads/trd pads.
I also use small amounts of brake grease on surfaces. I stopped using painted callipers tho as im not cleaning callipers every time I wash the car.....I grew tired of the used dirty look. Always a pleasure to spent time here Faye you're a goodie!
Off topic...Faye... 2002 nissan maxima se... Going to replace the water pump... Is there a pulley available to remove the pump that u know of... Seems that someone would have invented one... Thanks... Down the street in San Antonio...
Thanks for the informative video, I have been working on Toyotas since my 94 Camry sadly it went to Toyota have after a crash from an impaired driver. enter 2005 Camry I changed the breaks and rotors in my mechanic class my sister received it, so she gets a throttle body and mass air flow sensor for free last week. now my training was from a lady master technician and another guy they were both very good three years of training I would marry that lady if she wasn't married. I digress if I had three daughters, they would learn everything I know to fix cars too like you keep up the work women can do anything including being good mechanics. I have four sisters and they get anything they need to be fixed my brother he wasn't born with the mechanic gene so no help from him. very jealous of that new lift damm I would love to put the highlander on that if I had the space. mechanic advised I needed the throttle body and sensor cleaned I did it myself the range went up 50 miles from 497 to 548 I like fixing things. forget people who don't believe you're doing excellent work my girlfriend appreciates my mechanic knowledge.
Faye, you’re my go to for this stuff. I bought these pads and rotors. I dont haul much but live in Idaho mountain country. Do you think Napa reman calipers will be any good and safe?
Faye, Love your channel. Need some help. Purchased a 2023 4Runner SR5 Premium. I want to buy the mft automotive repair manuals. A contact or source from you can help. Please. Keep on turning wrenching.
I've had issues with the powers stop caliper models leaking between where the two halves come together. Out of the 10 I've installed, 2 of them came back leaking... quality control isn't best with power stop..
Thanks Fay! Do you have a suggestion for replacement pads/rotors/calipers that fit 2014 Toyota Tundra, in silver or black. I do a lot of towing a 6500 lb trailer. Downhill when the brakes get hot I feel some vibration in the steering.
Faye, I just recently subscribed to your channel because one of your videos came up in my recommended last week. It's been about two years, but I remember watching your show on MotorTrend. I've always had a love for cars but I never took the time to seriously learn how to work on them until very recently. I'm 42 and decided I will make a career change to go into the automotive industry because the current trade I'm in is not a good fit for me. Anyway, your channel is great because I can either watch and learn or if I'm doing chores I can put your videos on in the background and listen to them while I'm doing other things around the house. You're really great at explaining everything that somebody needs to know on whatever subject your video is about. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Nice video your style is refreshing very light and you don’t take yourself too serious but you have tons of knowledge you share in your videos, good job! Jesus saved my soul and I was born again Feb 1st 2020 in my house. He changed my heart and gave me a change of mind and filled me with his spirit I felt 100 pounds lighter. Trust Jesus he saves ❤
Hi Faye, watching from Australia, great to see the girls in the trade, thanks for the video its really well done, top job. All the best from Australia 🇺🇸🇭🇲🙏👍
If you work on cars around Philadelphia. Finding cars with pads cracked vertically is common. People don't know how to drive and just speed to the next light and slam their brakes.
By coincidence, I just did one side on my Jeep this evening (pads and rotor) and want to finish tomorrow. However, my rotors are pointing in the other direction..? I have seen several vids saying surface grooves go "this way" or "that way" or "if the internal fins are not angled, the surface grooves can go either way". I just emailed the manufacturer to confirm as the box didn't have anything. ;-)
So this red upgrade kit looks awesome how was it. I have a tacomq lifted 35s as well offroad machine. Did it help a ton I want to do this kit. Just wanted to know the results. Awesome job BTW. If u was close I would swing my rig into to. 😊 great video great pointers let.me know thanks
91 because Japan uses the metric system when converted it equals 91. I know Japan and the rest of the world uses metric system. Please correct me if im wrong.
Thxs for the information on yours videos as I’ve done so much on my car that I would have not done without your videos, just want to say thx you 👍 from 🇬🇧 United Kingdom
Make a video with random cuts to you under the truck struggling cussing like a sailor (but bleeped out) in between your normal cheery video explanations.
Faye, I’ve been wanting to upgrade my rotors to cross drilled but didn’t know if they could still be turned when it’s time for another brake job? Is it possible or even needed?
Hello, former Toyota mechanic here. Was wondering if there is a way for me to get a Toyota work shirt like you are wearing? I live in Norway and got a full sleeve sweater from my former job, but love that shirt.
I am due to replace pads and rotors. Have gotten 70k on the them. probably could go awhile longer but great excuse to upgrade and to them myself enjoyed the tutorial.
Faye, I can promise you that drilled rotors give less stopping performance. Slotted rotors are good, but the best is a standard rotor if you really want to stop on a dime.... Drilled rotors are a dangerous gimmick!
How often do you need to perform an ABS bleed when you replace a brake hydraulic part, and is there an other alternative to the very expensive dealership labour for the job?
I see those "performance" brake rotors a lot majority in America but with my knowledge and research online they're not exactly as great as you want them to be especially if you're towing heavy. The drilling of the rotor on the contact surface actually weakens the rotor and doesn't offer any performance at all where as the long slotting across the surface does so vented and slotted is the best way to go. Here in Australia DBA (Disk Brakes Australia) make good quality products with technology that actually ads performance instead of sporty asthetics but either are an upgrade over stock brakes. Good video Faye sucks so much to work on stuff when it's really hot.
I did this last week, unfortunately my caliper bore's were in pretty bad. flip side is I went the same route as you did on this truck. Great video as always, keep up the good work! Another note for others, if the slide pins are seized, pin punch on a air hammer works very well. Figured this out after spending a good hour getting them out on one side.
I have a question about the original front brake calipers because they are similar to the ones on my 4Runner. The triangle shaped spring (Anti-rattle Spring) at the bottom of the caliper, is it correct to only have the one or should there be one on the top and bottom? It looks like there are provisions for both but my 4Runner, like your truck, just has one at the bottom. Thanks, keep up the great content!
