Man you make these look easy, and you didn't even break a bolt. Great to hear some of the financial details, to understand the reality of business.

If it was me I’d would have got the mls gasket too. The oem gasket was a steel with carbon layer and notorious for being bad. But the mls gasket fixes the issue.

There's a trick to sliding the heads on. Take both the nuts off the bottom mounts pick up the engine with a jack slide engine over (whatever side you need room) hold with a strap slide head on repeat for other side. I've seen those eBay gaskets eventually fail to many times. I use either six star or Felpro.

Thanks for the advice I usually stick to Fel-Pro gaskets as well but this one is kind of on a budget already really high price we'll keep the mount trick in mind will make future jobs easier thanks

What are you holding with the strap, the engine? Couldn't you support with the jack?

@@Allen-bm6tz The jack supports the engine, the strap will help shift the engine to one side or the other

I hope my blue devil sealer solution will hold until summer. Then I will do my first ever mechanic experience replacing the head gasket.

@@TheMemo1776 it worked on my 05 forester. I just had to remove , clean and reinstall the thermostat after letting the sealer stick.

To place the head gasket could you not use gasket maker to help hold it in place?
@Allen-bm6tz

Did you oil the head bolts? A question for everyone, how do you keep the oil on the threads from dripping onto the gasket or head/block surface while you're trying to position the head into place? Seems like a lot of balancing to keep all the bolts and gasket in place while trying to position the head onto the block. Thanks!
@zsproshop
@zsproshop 2 года назад
Yes oil both threads and washers just enough so they are not dripping everywhere and yes definitely does take some practice to get the head into place without touching anything

Cheap gaskets and no resurfacing of the heads? I'm looking forward to the update in 10-20,000 miles.

This one actually got sold to a family friend has been driving it for over a year now no problems whatsoever
@joshuachristiansen2626

You don’t always have to resurface the heads. Its smart to do it anyways but you don’t always have to do it on every head gasket job. As long as they aren’t warped and are completely straight.

What exactly do you call that pin that you stuck in the tensioner? Can I get one at the parts store?
