I was taking a shower about 10:30pm tonight and heard the smoke detector alarm in the bedroom go off. I knew it was the batteries. Fortunately I had 2 fresh AA batteries on hand, but even when I installed them it kept beeping and the woman’s voice in there saying “Low battery” every few minutes was creeping me out! Googling for a pdf proved fruitless, I went to YT and found your wonderful video. After viewing a few times, I saw what I was doing incorrectly. All fixed!! You are my hero! Now I can get to sleep. 💖🙏🏼
Can't thank you enough. I am a widow and don't have anyone living close to help me. With your demonstration I was able to put in new batteries. My dog also thanks you, as she was shaking every time she heard a chirp.
Thank you very much for your comment. I am happy that this video helped you to solve the problem. Enjoy your Holidays peacefully without smoke detector chirps. Please subscribe to the channel for more helpful videos.
I changed and trashed even new batteries thinking it wasn’t working. I spent 2 months not sleeping in my room. Today finally I see what I was doing wrong, I was not resetting the smoke detector. I am glad I came across this video. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for making this easy and straightforward tutorial! The continual chirping from my alarm was driving me nuts all day, and my building’s maintenance person refused to come by and help since it was the weekend. Thanks to you I fixed it and got a good night’s sleep!
Thank you for this video. Mine started chirping at 10pm. I was up all night, replacing batteries and trying to remove it. I've called the company who installed it, 3 times with no resolution. My animals have been absolutely terrified and hiding. Finally, 12 hours later it stopped only because I saw this video!
I feel like it should be required by landlords to show how to replace batteries in smoke alarms. The amount of times I took the batteries out panicking and hitting buttons because the alarm was going off was ridiculous. When really that was the way it was “rebooting” itself.
Hello Kiersten, Yes, i think Landlords and Builder must provide these information to new homeowners and tenants. As these are basic but stressful situations. Hope with time, this will change. Thanks for your comment.
It shouted "low battery" and chirped at 6am. I replaced the batteries. I pressed the button. I was then enveloped in a matrix of ozone piercing chirps and cold soulless declarations of carbon monoxide and fire by what sounds like an android nurse. How do I make this stop? Why does a battery replacement notification have to be this obnoxiously extreme? I want to destroy it.
I know. Not sure why there isn't any minor low battery warning for few days and then the main one. Maybe Kidde will hear this one day. I hope you were able to sort it out woth the help of the video. Please subscribe for more helpful videos.
Quick follow up. The unit startled me out of a sound sleep at 5:00am this morning beeping again. This time I just pressed the button to reset it. So far so good. It’s almost 4:00pm, so 11 hours and all is quiet. And I have subscribed. Thank you for helping us stay sane!
Yes, it can happen as may be reset was not completed. Also, it can be malfunctioning of unit. If that keeps happening, and your smoke Detector is within 10 year warranty (manufacturing date is at the back of unit), you can visit Kidde Website and get in touch with customer care for free replacement unit. They will mail you new one.
@@How2 Thank you. Removing the unit to see the date at the back and returning to Kidde would be for someone on the maintenance team to handle (I’m a renter). Plus the unit is in the ceiling so it’s for them to dismantle it. I will be informing the property manager at this point. However as of 8::00pm it’s still behaving itself.
This has been a great help. I called my landlord, but no response. The beeping was too loud. I changed the batteries-no help. I called again, they said it was not beeping. It stopped for awhile but began again. A week passed, I stepped up, on a footstool, to change the batteries again. It beeped but it was not directly from the unit. I begin searching and found it was actually a small personal unit I purchased and plugged in. 🥴 Embarrassed I unplugged it and removed its battery. Then my actual unit spoke to me, “low battery”. I had inserted the unnecessary replacements incorrectly. This video guided me to the right way. I couldn’t see the imprint due to the height. 🤗
After fiddling around for about a half hour or so, I watched your video which was very helpful. Like someone else said, your voice becomes inaudible when you’re testing & because the light was red, beeping, etc, & did not know if that was good or bad i watched someone else’s video & that told me once this stopped it was a go. The other thing is on mine the red tabs are attached at the top with a spring & cannot be pushed down, so instead I pulled them down so they would be flat against the surface & totally visible, that worked & my batteries remained snugged. Hope this helps if you have the same red tab situation.
Hello, I was not talking during the testing phase. I lowered the volume in the video because testing beeping too loud. I only speak that the end and that's one words, and everything else is clear in the video. Sorry if this might have caused any confusion. Thanks
Thank you, I couldn’t figure out why it was still yelling at me after I changed the batteries, and their own website doesn’t say anything about pressing the button, so I really appreciate this!
This alarm is so obnoxious! It’s so startling that I had the jitters for like an hour after they went off. I thought I’d replaced them correctly but they started up again. Thank you for this. 👍
I replaced every battery on all the wired monitors and the chirping continued. Without instructions handy, it didn't occur to me to reset the monitor where the initial chirping/battery replacement started. Thank you for this video.
The key step I missed after replacing new batteries is the pressing the button to reset. After that, the chanting of low-battery voice is finally stopped. Thanks for the helpful video.
It would be great if there was a picture in the battery compartment to show proper orientation of battery(s). They are often hard to remove and fall out suddenly.
The directions on the website said the battery direction was shown inside the compartment. WTH? Mine is 14 feet high, and I can barely reach it never mind read it. Thank you for this video which showed the direction and got me back to bed at 4 AM! How hard is it for them to include the direction in the documentation?
You're welcome. Happy to help and hear that you were able to find a ladder to reach 14 feet height at late night. Please subscribe to the channel for more helpful videos
With flashlight and my glasses, I looked EVERYWHERE inside the battery compartment to see which way was + and - . I could not see markings anywhere. By trial and error I got the batteries in correctly. Can't believe they would design the unit this way. ARE there markings for + and - on this unit? Mine is like the one shown at the beginning of the video.
I wasn't sure if I replaced the batteries correctly and I decided to check a little while later. The battieres were so hot and I removed them immediately. Did the batteries get hot because they were not put in correctly or is there a problem with the detector? I certainly don't want to take a chance of this catching fire.
Hello, I think its more because they were inserted in Opposite charge, it might have caused them to get hot. I would recommend you can remove the detector and insert the battery correctly. If everything is good then Unit is still good. Please let me know if this works.
@@How2 Thank you so much. I got scared when the batteries got hot so quickly. I'll try putting the batteries in and check it a little while later to make sure they don't heat up again. Hopefully that will solve the problem. Thanks again for your help.
Thanks a million for the wonderful video! The beep sounds annoyed me and I was not able to sleep for the whole night. The part of resetting it is the trick! I liked and subscribed your channel.
Mine is flashing green after I changed the batteries and reset the machine. It’s been without batteries for weeks, and would chirp because it had no batteries but was losing charge. Is it possible it’s flashing green because it didn’t have batteries for a couple of weeks?
Yes, Most smoke detectors are dual powered, meaning they are both wired and battery-operated, then even if the batteries are removed, they will still have power as long as they are hardwired. Additionally, even in battery-only smoke detectors, there may still be a small amount of power remaining in the unit even after the batteries have been removed. This could potentially cause the detector to continue functioning for little while.
HI...Help....My unit is on a 14ft ceiling. I managed to open the battery door and remove the old AA batteries. I now have finally, with the use of a long pole and sticky tape on the end, managed to get new batteries in. BUT...its still chirping low battery....I used Lithium batteries cuz they last longer...is this OKAY? and....does the battery door need to be closed to complete the operation and STOP the chirping and low battery voice ???
Hello, I checked few articles and most of them don't recommend Lithium Battery for Smoke Detector. Even Kidde says same. You can check few things - 1. Make sure the direction of charge -/+ on battery is place as marked on smoke. 2. Batteries are brand new 3. They are fit tight. 4. Press test or reset button on detector to reset the warning. It can also be a defective unit. Kidde replaces faulty units for 10 years from unit's manufacturing date. Please check stamp on detector. I know the detector is installed very high, but would recommend to properly check the unit. Thanks
I was just replacing batteries as precaution as it's been over 1 year and the light turned solid green! Read many tutorials and guides - Still not sure how to make it go back to flashing green every 60 seconds. Please help!
Don't worry about it. Keep an eye on it for next 24 hours. If its still blinking, you can remove the smoke and the battery and redo the steps. And make sure to press the reset button at the end. Some models for Kidde have solid green light sign of normal operations and some have blinking. Some model have blinking green for standby mode, which mean after changing battery reset is not done. If you can share the exact model and serial number, I might be able to help better
I replaced the batteries but the light isn’t shown green? Do I need to press reset button or its fine to just replace the Batteries? I see a green light flashing every now and then but I also have another detector like this in my other room and it has a green light?
Hello, Green light should be solid Green on normal use. Please Press reset Button again and see. For blinking green, Kidde website says below" The green LED will blink once every 16 seconds to alert a user when the unit has alarmed for smoke or has detected a hazardous concentration of CO. If the alarm has detected a CO level of 100ppm or greater, when the Test/Reset button is pressed the unit will announce “CO PREVIOUSLY DETECTED.” If the alarm has detected abnormal levels of smoke since its last test, it will produce three rapid beeps. This alarm uses photoelectric sensing technology. Leading authorities recommend that both ionization and photoelectric smoke alarms be installed to help insure maximum detection of the various types of fires that can occur within the home. Ionization sensing alarms may detect invisible fire particles (associated with fast flaming fires) sooner than photoelectric alarms. Photoelectric sensing alarms may detect visible fire particles (associated with slow smoldering fires) sooner than ionization alarms."
Hello! I tried replacing the batteries with 2 sets of fresh batteries that I just bought. At first I thought it was successful but after 2 minutes the “low battery” alert continued as if nothing changed. What should we do now? Should we buy more batteries and try again?
Hello, First, please check if the direction of the batteries was in correct order as marked on the smoke. Second, try to test smokes so it resets them. Third, if that doesn't solve, then try new batteries. If you still have an issue, then you can contact Kiddie customer service for replacement. They have limited 10 year warranty on malfunctioning. Please check the manufacturing date on Smoke Detector. There will be a sticker on it with Month and Date. Thanks
I had the same problem. Thought I was insane. But the batteries I took out were “Kidde” batteries. I looked on Amazon and did not see them. Guess you have to order from their website? What a pain in my ass. Meanwhile this thing will beep all night.
Thanks a lot for helping. Indeed you helped me a lot as I was replacing batteries again and again but there was still that noisy, irritating alarm that your battery is low. Thanks again and on a happy note, Subscribed your channel as you deserve it.
I have a question. Is there supposed to be a light that flashes once in a while? I ask because I feel like there may have been a flashing light when this was installed in my apartment and no longer see it.
Hello Luz, Yes, if the Green light flashes every 30 to 40 sec it means Smoke/Combo is working fine. Please test it by pressing the reset button and seeing how it responds. if there is any issue, you can contact the Building maintenance, or if you are the owner, then replace the Smoke. If your smoke is more than 10 years old, it must be replaced. Let me know
I just watched this channel and immediately changed my batteries. It is still beeping and I don't know what else to do? Please help. Thank you so much.
Hello Yanni, Did you press reset button agter changing the batteries? If yes and its still beeping, please check if the batteries were installed in correct directions. If it still beeps, then you can visit Kidde website and submit a request for replacement on Smoke Detector for free. Its covered for 10 years from manufacturing date on your smoke for limited warranty. Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions
@@How2 Thank you so much. Yes, I did the RESET but I pressed the wrong button. So, I tried again, pressing the correct button and now it is good. Greatly appreciate your response. You are THE BEST!
@@How2 It stopped chirping for 3 weeks and today it is chirping again. I changed the battery again and it is still chirping - also, why is the green light flicking, with occasional red light when it's chirping? Also, after changing the batteries, when I reset, why it didn't talk to me anymore?
@@yannip2083 The unit may be faulty if this is happening so soon unless you have had a long power outage. if you think the Unit is Faulty, you can get a free replacement for up to 5 to 10 years (Depending on the particular product) from the date of manufacturing on the Smoke Unit. @@How2 Yes, I also suspect the unit may be faulty because it stopped "talking" to me! LOL Thank you SO MUCH again. YOU are THE BEST OF THE BEST! Greatly appreciated!
Yes that is okay. Reminder clips work when they are fit in behind the battery. So if they are settling in there properly, smoke unit will be fine. Thanks
So still beeps every 30 seconds, batteries are in the right spot, tried new batteries, unit is almost 11 years old, probably needs to be replaced, can I just I connect until tomorrow?
Hello, Yes, you can remove the unit. And remove batteries then. Press and hold button for 10 seconds or so to drain the left over charge. Replace it tomorrow when you have the new. This video might help- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LK09nanLF78.htmlsi=GdwcxpP34gnPDvXQ
I’ve changed my batteries twice in a week and it keeps on saying low battery… does have to be a specific brand ? Or could it be generic brand of battery… I’ve added brand new batteries but they’re not duracel. That can’t be the reason why is still saying low battery is it?
Hello, Brand of battery doesn't matter. They just have to be new. Please try pressing test/ reset button on smoke with battery issue, it spund alarm for few seco ds and reset. See if it still does warn about Low Battery. Just to try, may be try new batteries. If it still does say Low Battery, and if your smokes are within 10 years manufacturing date (there will be a sticker on Smoke showing this date), you can contact Kidde via website or call, and request replacement. They cover 10 year limited warranty on product. Hope this solves your problem. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Hi bro, i changed my batteries but its still chirping and sayig something like no battery in server i cant get it right whats its saying tho , please help , i have exact same as yours, yesterday it went on due to smoke as i had heavy cooking inside garage, so someone took out batteries in order to make it stop siren, now i tried to put batteries back and its still chirping and saying (no batteries is seeved or something)
@@How2 i changed batteries put all new ones now it stays silent for 1 day and then all of a sudde it starts again chirping low battery , what would be the cause ?
@@deeppb1862 either batteries are not installed right, or you didnt press reset button or it can ne unit malfunctioning. Try first 2 options and then if it still doesn't work! Then contact Kidde for replacement.
Unfortunately in my case, the slider would not open properly, and you could not see how to place the batteries while holding those inner clips down...I had to unplug it, take it down from the ceiling, not an easy task for a guy with arthritis in his neck, and then was able to replace the batteries while holding those clips...all in all, I think this Kidde unit is a piece of junk...it should not be this difficult to replace batteries...:(
Hello Jeff, It is pretty easy to change battery usually. But if its giving you hard time and you think unit is malfunctioning. You can get a free replacement from Kidde for 10 years from the date printed on the unit. You can contact Kidde customer support.
What if it still chirps even after I changed batteries. Also when I do one change of batteries, then press for 2 seconds all the other alarms still go off.
1. If it still chirps, then it can ne detector malfunctioning. You can get free replacement if its in 10 year warranty period. 2. When you press reset for 2 3 second to reset the alarm, it reset the smoke for which battery is changed and others goes off as well because they all are interconnected as required by Building Code.
Hello Neil, Please check video at 00:40, direction of batteries is explained 😊. Also, there is sticker at the base where battery gets installed. If sticker is missing, then there is embossed marking by the plastic battery reminder clips as well. Hope this answers your question. Thanks
Hello Jane, Maybe the battery you are changing is for Smoke Detector but not the Combo (CO + Smoke). Please see the video- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2R7LCybdFXE.htmlsi=bCF_j9ZIODk0oKkH The yellow tab is easy to fall off. It's used to remove battery, but if you dont have it, just try to pull the batteries out.
Important point: if you have disconnected the detector from the wired power connection, when you close the battery door it may scream until you reconnect the wires. Reopen the battery door, reconnect the wires, then close the battery door.
Hello, There can be multiple reason's - 1. Are Batteries installed in right direction? 2. Did you press reset/test button after battery change? 3. Unit might be malfunctioning if within 10 years of manufacturing date. Its on back of the unit. 4. If its more than 10 years, then unit expired and need replacement. Hope this helps. Thanks
Hello, There can be multiple reasons - 1. Batteries might not be new. 2. Batteries are not in right directions 3. Please if not done, press RESET button to reset the smoke. If none of these fix the issue, then Unit need to be replaced. Kidde has 10 year warranty from manufacturing date. Sticker on back. You can contact them for warranty.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n I played the video and the test is done between 1.14 to 1.30 minutes, there is background music. But I purposely lowered the volume for the detector sound so it doesn't stress the person who is watching.
Hello, Test is to actually RESET the unit. Most of the time if its not performed, low battery warning may continue. And I know the pain of hearing screech.
Hello, Please check video at 0:43 , it explains the directions of +/-. The sound goes down because alarm testing noise is too much for the video, so it was lowered. Thanks
There is a sticker at the back where batteries are installed. The reason i cant mention exact is that it can be placed differently at the manufacturing process, so please follow the sticker installed inside the battery compartment.
Helloz All of the Kidde smokes have the +/- embossed on the plastic. Sometimes they can be hard to see in low light. Please use some kind of lighting to make it better and install the batteries correctly. And be safe on the ladder.
Hello Olivia, Happy New Year, Please make sure you out the red clips inside first and then you can install one batterh at the time as per + - direction at the back.
