Thanks for the video. I couldn't have replaced my handle yoke and adjusted the spring tension without it. One small addendum: Mechanic's gloves are highly recommended as busting at least one knuckle is pretty much inevitable.
Thanks for making this video! I have the spring winding tool, but I have had issues with this part in the past. My 519 has a weak tension, and I just left alone after awhile. Your Heritage looks great, and I know it definitely cleans well. I have the 519 and Diamond Edition.
thanks yea I love this vacuum, found it in the trash too have all the attachments and the hose for it. I need to get that spring tool, im sure it works better than pliers or side cutters
hanksranger www.kirbyneeds.com. Yeah, it's nice. I had a few Heritages at one time. I like the Heritage 2 a little better, but that is just me. I have had a few of them in the past, too. I rebuild them and sell them from time to time.
My bushing wore out which would make the yoke jump and make a loud snapping noise as you vacuum. This video will really help me out as I replace it, thanks
good video thanks. i do all my own repairs but haven't needed to replace this part until now. the springs fine but the tag has broken. there is a tension tool but the pliers trick will do me fine. terrific vacuum cleaners. i have far too many of them.....
sooo,,,,,, if I am thinking correctly, you need to remove the C clip to get the adjustment to move to the next tang? Which means the cover needs to be removed, which means I have argued with the handle spring holder thingy for hours since the tension holder will not move out far enough to move/slide to the next tang?.... as in disassembly required. I have tension, just not enough, and somehow the tang got to the "loose" position.
Nice work man. They sure don't make em like that anymore. If I have a new vacuum that's even remotely broken it's off to the trash. I've tried fixing them and it never works.
I have a Kirby Classic III. The handle wants to spring FORWARD if I am not holding on to it. Do you think I need to replace the handle fork spring, as you've shown? Or does something needs to be adjusted, so it rests at the normal upright position, instead of wanting to lay forward (over the top of the motor)? Any idea where I can buy the part and what it costs? Thanks.
If you look at yours there should be a small tang that is held on with the entire handle spring assy, this tang hits the stop on the body and stops the handle from going forward with the spring tension. it is forward of the handle right by the small bar that goes through the bottom of the handle
Absolutely a nightmare to assemble. I had just ordered a replacement kit. Three hours wasted putting this together in my 519 model and it is not working right. No mention in this video of the small screw. The handle bracket is too wide (for later models) and the handle bolt will not even completely insert. I even ordered a spring winder tool to ensure that the spring is tight enough.
