After 50k miles of oil mixing with coolant looks like I'll be resealing the oil cooler. So I'm going old school and slathering every rubber gasket with high temp oil resistant rtv before reassembly. Thanks for the video, my 2012 Sonic has 200k miles and hopefully another 200k after I fix this oil leak.

One of the Best video's I have ever followed, not a mechanic or usually eager to try a job like this. The repair shop wanted $660 and was able to spend a little over $200 and complete the job with the very simple instructions you posted. Our 2014 cruze was smoking and had a very small oil leak that was traced back to oil cooler unit, was able to install new with very little issues. Once installed we refilled fluids but the heater doesn't seem to be blowing warm air, as we live in Florida and not a huge deal but was wondering what I should check to fix the lack of heat.
@OneTrickTech
@OneTrickTech Год назад
Hey there, there's probably some air bubbles in the system. All you have to do is make sure the coolant level is good on the reservoir and rev to 2500 RPM for about 5-7min while max heat on. That should get rid of air bubbles and bring the heat back. Make sure you're at operating temperature before starting that procedure and make sure while doing it, the temperature gauge doesn't go too high, it should stay steady.
@fredericocorrea9814
@fredericocorrea9814 4 месяца назад
If it's not blowing warm air into the cabin the heater core may still have air in it. You can usually get it out by running the heat at full blast while the car is on. Do this when the car is warm but not hot. Remove the radiator cap and the overflow cap. Give the car some small taps on the gas to allow the thermostat to open up and bubbles to travel. Then give it a couple of taps on the gas so the bubbles travel out of the system. You will notice that the heat in the car will get hot. During this process you will lose some coolant so pay attention to the overflow tank and fill it as needed. Once you have heat close everything up and top off coolant. Hope this helps. Be blessed.

@OneTrickTech, Great Video easy to follow. The other day I found my coolant reservoir on a minimum level, I refill it on maximum. I drove 250km when I check it to see if the coolant goes again I see oil on the reservoir tank mixed with the coolant. I checked on any leak I found nothing. I'm wondering if the cylinder gasket was burnt out or the oil cooler is the cause. I check the oil in the engine there is no trace of coolant the colour of the oil is normal. There is no white or blue smoke coming out in the pipe while im driving i don't see any oil leaks on the engine. I think I had a bad oil cooler that causing the mix of oil inside reservoir. Or maybe there something else that causing this??? Thanks for your effort on making this video
@OneTrickTech
@OneTrickTech Год назад
I would replace the oil cooler assembly before blaming the head gasket. If you're leaking oil from the oil cooler, then you can just changed the gaskets and put everything back together. Since you have oil mixing with coolant, the oil cooler assembly is probably cracked and mixing the oil and coolant. I would also check for a water pump leak since they are known to leak from the bottom of the water pump.

si la pieza está rota, entonces el refrigerante se mezclará con el aceite en el cárter de aceite, pero no debe salir humo blanco porque no quema el refrigerante. (translation) if the piece is broken, then coolant will mix with the oil in the oil pan, but no white smoke should happen because its not burning coolant.

If you need to pull it out, spray some penetrating fluid and wiggle out slowly. If its sitting flush already try to work you way around it. The new pipe o-ring should be easy to put in if you clean the surface first from any rust or debris.

Update status. I’m manage to replace the oil housing without removing the manifold,it possible to work around it .I brought it up, then turn it to the right side, the sensor has to go over the cooling hose and then you have to twist it and wiggle it then you have all the space to work on the part. Your video rocks. You explained everything to the dot, it’s perfect. I greatly appreciate it. Unfortunately for my case I managed to break one of the bolts from the bottom side of the exhaust manifold. So now I’m debating wether to just hammer it out or drill it and replace it. Hi great video. Just one question should you bleed the air out of the coolant lines at the end? I have a holden Barina 2104 which i think is the same a chevy cruze or sonic/aveo and has a bleed plug at the top of the radiator.
@OneTrickTech
@OneTrickTech Год назад
yes, but this is a capless system so it ca bleed itself. When you fill the coolant to the proper level, rev the engine to about 255rpm for 5min and it will get rid of all the air bubbles. when you're done, check the level again and top it off.
@dmanyeah7963
@dmanyeah7963 Год назад
@@OneTrickTech Ok so if it doesn't have a bleed plug you just have to fill it and keep filling to right level and rev it for a few min (with the overflow cap off I assume) , but if has the bleed plug is there you can do that as optional? sorry just a bit new to this as you can tell :) Thanks
@OneTrickTech
@OneTrickTech Год назад
sure you can do it with the bleed plug if you have one. You keep the cap on to build enough pressure. I also forgot to mention to put the heat on to max so the coolant can circulate to the heater core, while reving at 2.5krpm for 5min.
@dmanyeah7963
@dmanyeah7963 Год назад
@@OneTrickTech ok thanks for confirming that and also with the heat on max for heater core. so basically, it is after draining coolant from the drain plug at the bottom to refill and bleed would be 1 - Open the bleed screw at the top of the radiator which allows air out 2 - Fill the coolant overflow tank with new coolant until it runs out fully from bleed screw 3) Tighten back up the bleed screw 4) Fill coolant level to the cold fill level (about half of the overflow tank) . 5) replace cap fully on overflow tank 6- start car and turn heat up fully and open cabin vents . let car idle for 1-2 minutes let it circulate and get temp up ? 7-run for 5 min at 2.5 rpm 8 check hot air coming from vents 9 take for test drive 10 check coolant level in overflow tank after running top up if needed.
@OneTrickTech
@OneTrickTech Год назад
yes almost perfect. On #2 you don't need to fill until it comes out from the bleeder screw, just fill till max and the after the test drive top off to max level again. The bleeder screw is to force air out while you're reving at 2.5krpm for 5min.

I have a holden cruze 1.8L 2012 sedan. I noted oil leak on to the exhaust manufold and traced it back to the oil cooler. I then replaced the oil cooler assembly and topped up the coolant and oil. There were no further leaks when i switched on the engine. Though i did notice white smoke coming from the bottom of the engine, a knocking sound coming from the engine at idle and the oil light turned on in the dash. The OBD2 scanner reads P0011 code. The oil level is aqequate on the oil dipstick. The intake variable timing solenoid is also working. I can't seem to find the cause of low oil pressure? I think the P0011 is related to the problem causing the low oil pressure? What could be the problem here?
@OneTrickTech
@OneTrickTech 10 месяцев назад
Did you do an oil change before starting this job? If yes, I suggest removing the vvt solenoids and cleaning the small screens, they could be dirty. If you did not do an oil change, I suggest doing a fresh oil change with filter. The oil pressure switch is below the oil cooler on the left side near the a/c compressor, check to see if its was damaged during the repair, make sure the wires are intact.

I’ve had many problems out of my 2011 Chevy Cruze but I think I’ve said enough… purchased in 2016 with about 55,000 miles, the trans went out at 88,000 miles. Luckily it was still under a service warranty with the dealership. My driver window motor has went oht twice within 2 years…. Now I’m afraid if I don’t get the engine cooler replaced soon my engine is going to have problems. 😢

@OneTrickTech

the oil pressure switch is beneath the oil cooler (bottom left side). Make sure its not disconnected or damaged. If your oil level is good on the dip stick, then the computer is reading a false oil pressure signal. Could be a faulty oil pressure switch or wiring issue.

I'd be surprised if you didn't get coolant in the oil. Hundreds of dollars in new parts but too cheap to do an oil change. You never reuse an oil filter. The chances are too good you'll introduce contamination into the bearings.
