this is the best HOW TO i've seen. :) Well done. the problems you had, are small. when i work on vehicles. NOW THATS when people can see annoying, nothing goes right, problems! for instance; 2004 gmc sierra 1500, dash cluster stopped working, transmission only worked in 3rd gear. bought new cluster, installed worked fine for 1 hr. but radio wasnt working. SO next day i removed radio, everything seemed fine, plugged radio back in, and radio worked. Wife takes truck to store and dash cluster not working. BUT as she drives further, it slowly starts to come back. lights that display info, mileage etc, then gauges, then backlights. ... had a garage look at it, they couldnt figure out whats wrong with dash/radio. because everything worked fine when they had it. LOL WTF! We get it back,,, same problems.... OH and the transmission problem, they found previous owner had a fuse in the wrong place. tranny works fine now.. On my 2003 jeep liberty changing rear caliper, bottom bolt turns almost all the way out nicely, and then snaps off??? ... :) and the 2003 rear caliper bracket isnt easily replaceable.. so drill n tap,,, and drill bit breaks, no extras, call friend for a 45 minute ride to autozone, get back home and then once drilled, where is the right sized tap? F**K! (the only tap thats missing from the set, the one i need) 45 minute trip back to autozone... :) i hate working on vehicles... because of the problems i have when working on them. it's never easy, even the easy shit, is never easy! AND if someone else comes over, picks up a wrench NOT ONE PROBLEM REARS ITS UGLY HEAD! USUALLY they just breeze thru it... still have the dash problem tho.

I completely understand. That is how things have been going on the Wrangler lately. I installed a new big brake kit and a few days later I have an axle seal leak. I take care of that and then find a bad ball joint, new ball joint now bad shocks... I'll have rough patches like you and then I'll have a good stretch, but that good runs out as soon as I notice everything has been going smoothly. Sorry to hear about your hardship, but thanks for watching and for sharing!

i did this today and it was a pain. The suspension shifted alot, and I didnt think i would ever get it lined back up. Had to use another jack to lift the suspension, and allign the control arm. Then the sway bar was shifted upwards, and had to lower the suspension some to get the bolts in the sway bar. You made it look easy. Great video.

Thanks for the great vídeos about the Jeep liberty. One question. I have a 2004 Jeep liberty and I feel a wobble in the black at highway speed Do I have to replace the rear lower control arms like in the vídeo?? Replacing them will correct the wobble? Once again. Thank you
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 6 лет назад
A wobble at highway speed could be the lowers, but it could also be other issues. It could be unbalanced/ out of balance tire/tires, a bad tire or tires or even a slightly bent axle shaft. If your lower control arms look anything like the one from the video you should definitely replace them. You can find a good quality set in my Amazon store - www.amazon.com/shop/rockyxtv Thanks for watching!

@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 6 лет назад
I had the same issue and just thought I had the wrong or a bad part. I didn't show this in the video as it was only like that for one side and thought it might just have been a manufacturing fluke. I just took a grinder to it, have a bucket of water handy though. Grind a little and cool it in the water, grind more and cool. This will keep from melting the rubber in the bushing.
@TheBeardedJeeper
@TheBeardedJeeper 8 лет назад
Wow what a pain having to remove the exhaust. Where did you get the expanding ratchet? That thing was cool. Also what camera are you using. And you said you had bad quality with your GoPro what model was it because some shoot in 4K
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 8 лет назад
Got the ratchet at Harbor Freight, cheap but most people don't know that their hand tools have a lifetime warranty. If you break it just take it to the store and they give you a new one, no questions asked, no receipt required! The camera I use now is a Sony FDR-AX33 4K, the audio was bad because of my wireless system dying. The old gopro's that I use are amazon knock-off "action cams" GoArmatures I call them. They are like $50.

I PB blasted my rear ball joint, got 15mm bushing side bolts loosely on triangle. Bolt out ball joint carrier. How can I get joint out axle without taking three big bolts attached to axle. Would hammer be ok to pound up on triangle. Shocks easy piezy and ride has improved. If you are in UT Welcome to video mine. Thinking about OME lift kit heavy springs, blistein shocks
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 8 лет назад
A hammer should be ok, if everything is unbolted. A ball joint separator would work pretty well IF you could get it up in there, they sell them cheap at Harbor Freight. I would love to do a video, but I'm in Ohio. A lift was going to be the next step for Project Renegade but it's looking like a new transmission, possibly.

decided to put new arms on this diesel axle wraping from torque. Almost most done but how can I get Muffler out two bolt loose is there way to lift up and move muffler out way? My 21mm torqued down on axle like mofo at least 300 pounds it felt like. Yours easy lol, my arm still sore two breaker bars.
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 8 лет назад
I don't think you can move it up out of the way, first I tried taking the exhaust out of all the rubber hangers and move it but still not enough room. I had to take out the two bolts in the flange that are right before the muffler and remove two rubber hangers in the back and just drop the muffler down. I got lucky and the bolts came right off, I hope yours goes just as easy.
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 7 лет назад
All that talking before about the upper arm must have jinxed me! I just ordered the whole upper arm, bushings and ball joint all pre installed. The ball joint is so bad that I thought I needed u-joints because of what I thought was u-joint "clunk" when pitting it in gear, also when letting off the gas then hitting it again, CLUNK! I'm planning on shooting a video of it soon. How much did the axle move/roll when you removed the upper?
@jon-rv7dc
@jon-rv7dc 7 лет назад
was wondering how you go the 120 pounds of torque on the control arm fasteners. Due to there postition I couldn't get enough force on my torque wrench to get it to click. I just tightened them as hard as I could, and hope that was enough. lol
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 7 лет назад
It is a pain to get in there with anything! Most of the time you have to use German torque specs "Goodentite" LOL!

I did all of the control arms, I replace every part of the suspension when I did the lift kit. I mean everything, Upper and lower control arms (front & rear including rear Y-Link), struts, hubs, hub beatings, ball joints, sway bar bushings, inner & outer tie rods, rear coil springs, shocks and more.

Rocky X TV I had a bad lower ball joint on the pass side but I’m like you and just can’t settle on replacing that I ordered the whole shebang, upper control arms, inner/outer tie rods etc. I’m just a little unsure about how the inner tie rods get taken out/ installed. Any tips? Thanks
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 5 лет назад
I had to use this tool - goo.gl/qWcC4E This tool is super easy to use when you have the control arms out of the way. I also have the "complete" tie rod tool kit, but it didn't have the right piece to fit the Liberty style inner tie rods. Here's that tool as well - goo.gl/qWcC4E

My liberty pulls to the left when i accelerate and jerks to the right really hard when i let off the throtle too fast. The only thing i can find that causes this much axle play is the control arms. Is this accurate before i buy the part? I dont think im covered under the recall because its a 2002
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 5 лет назад
If this is happening in the rear of the Jeep, yes it sounds like the lower control arms to me.
@Redtailedhawk99
@Redtailedhawk99 5 лет назад
Well if you Jack it up by the differential the weight of the Jeep compresses the stuff all back down about the same as it would setting it back down completely since I have no way to reach the bolts once I set mine back down. I’m a big guy and don’t have ramps or a hydraulic lift.
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 5 лет назад
It is pretty close to the same, close enough for torquing everything down. When all the weight is on the diff only, one side or the other can have less weight/compression on it than the other. Thanks for watching!

How about rear upper triangle, hammered down and now have a lot of movement in rear end up and down. Guessing Triangle can this be changed leaving tires barely touching ground. How do we get ball joint out. About ready to order new parts, moog 3535 as little play drives side tie rod. Guessing I should get rear ball joint maybe whole triangle. Better check my control arms and I bet my shocks are shot. Pretty clean jeep you have there like no rust except that control arm!
@RockyXTV
@RockyXTV 8 лет назад
You may be able to get by with the tires just barely on the ground, as long as the suspension id at "full droop" I believe that the ball joint that's in the upper triangle is a press in style. If the upper doesn't look all that bad I'd just do the ball joint, on the other hand if you can get the whole thing ball joint and all for a good price I would go that route. It would save the time of having someone press in the new ball joint, unless you have a press. Thanks for the comment about the Jeep, I am still surprised at how clean that thing is underneath but yet the shape that control arm was in, man! I may be doing a video soon on brakes, shocks and the upper control arm if needed, make sure to subscribe to keep up on all the new videos! Only if you want to that is.
@presidenteldermarkhoffman8304
@presidenteldermarkhoffman8304 8 лет назад
Found my bushings fine on A arm and Ball Joint was not to bad move around little with finger pressure. Put hammer down on Diesel and this suspension is barely up to snuff. Spent almost 125k miles babied and other 15k riding hard and towing big trailers. Axle moves up and down at axis as there is nothing really holding axle in place other than control arms and upper A arm. Planning on checking my drive shaft as well those bind under dust boot lube that up.
@presidenteldermarkhoffman8304
@presidenteldermarkhoffman8304 8 лет назад
Ok got it done here is what I did. Jack up rear axle, put jeep on jack stands both sides. Unbolt upper joint, pin slides out with tapping. Use Jeep jack and piece wood to push up on A arm until it pops. My two Arm control bolts lose first before jacking. Put new one in place I got one bolt in on bushing side left one out. With axle up high almost with all weight of jeep I aligned up new ball joint played around with jeep jack on nose of axle to tilt plus big floor jack still pushing up high on axle with most of jeep weight if not all. Used fogging oil on hole to help new ball go in. With strap around axle I pulled it down plus fiddle with two jacks got it to go down plus pry tool open up ball joint support mount. Once down good enough I inserted bolt with stop turn on it 18mm. Now drop jeep you have ball joint done and one front bushing bolt loose. Grab arm and pull push line up holes and screw driver to pry. Got bolt in and sent it home. Tighten up other bushing bolt. You can easily remove two bolts on muffler to gain access to passanger bolt. Same goes for control arm.

I can't say for sure how much it would be if you had a shop do it, but just a ballpark guess between 250-350 for one side. That would be for an hour or so labor and "their" price on the part. For me, it was only around 125 to do both as I did it myself and didn't have to pay any extra for the parts.

@RockyXTV

That can cause a sway, I didn't have that issue because it was only the control arm that was bad on mine. The bushings were still okay. The bushings could be your issue, at least that's the first thing I would look at. I was able to get these control arms at a really good price new on Ebay, I don't know about the durability of them as this vehicle doesn't get a lot of miles put on it, but the Ebay arms are a LOT less expensive that everywhere else I found.
