FYI I wouldn't do this job without also getting the cable repair kit my door handle turned out to actually be fine the plastic cable ends all I needed dorman part #926-111 the replacement is aluminum

The hard plastic ends have broken off. Is it possible to replace handles and hard plastic at end of cables but not replace entire cable system? Door still opens but I have to pull them.

What size rivets did you use on this job and where can I buy them? I just finished using new aluminum ends on all the cables, both doors but need to buy rivets and rivet gun to finish the job. It’s hard to find exact OEM rivet info for this.

There's gotta be a way to ditch the rivets and use nuts and bolts. That's one of my main reasons I don't buy Ford products.

warning, the removal of the handle isn't anything close to whats shown on the video. the rivets are nor flush like the video implies, rather, they extend out, enough that it is impossible to keep a drill centered on it by hand. expect the drill to slip off the cebter, then get caught and probably break, drill into the trucks sheet metal because not centered, etc addirionally, as you get closer, the rivets will also start spinning, causing friction and melting the plastic handle assembly. you will need to use some kind of chisel or small screwdriver to wedge under the rivet, to hold it and keep it from spinning. in the end, expect a bit of a mess - enlarged sheetmetal holes from the off centered slipped drill, and scratched/dented sheet metal from the other tools required, such as screwdriver/chisel wedge to hold the rivet still.

This can be avoided by using a punch and hammer or a spring punch to make a spot on the rivet head for the drill bit to stay centered and bite on.

Agree with Lee B. It took me at least 20 minutes per rivet to remove. And that is even using a dremel with grinding attachment. I recommend taping off the area to prevent damage to inner door finish. There is a replacement aluminum slide that is sold also to replace the dry rotted factory plastic slides. About 10 buck for 8 slides for upper and lower latch mechanisms. Unsure if 1A sells them. Might be good to have an entire kit. Handles, slides, cable lubricant, rivets etc.

@@penleycru6295 Looks like the other video from Klamm Auto makes these pieces. I'm going to order those and replace my plastic pieces, because my Auto Parts store and Ford Dealer wants around $200 for a whole new cable for each side :( !!!!

Try using a washer in its place. As long as it pushes against the plastic tubing the wire should pull

mine did also i ordered new handles and realized it you can buy replacement ends i got all 4 there aluminum on amazon for like 7 bucks just search your trucks year and rear door handle on amazon and go through list you cant miss them
