For anyone looking to make this repair, I ordered the part from them and neither strut came with the upper bushing as shown in the video. Initially, that was my main reason for choosing to buy the part from 1A Auto. Other than that the video is great and the install wasn't too bad. However, the right strut makes a "squeak" sound occasionally when I hit a bump. Overall, I recommend the 1A Auto video tutorial for the repair but I can't recommend the part.

Mine did not break. My 2010 Honda EX Sedan has 179,000 miles on it and I had never changed the rear shocks until yesterday. What I did was spray some rust penetrant the day before removing the bolts. Let them soak in and let me tell you my bolts came off with no problem at all. It was super easy. Spraying your bolts with a good rust penetrant a day before will save you hassle of breaking them. I ordered new bolts just in case they broke but to be honest I could’ve re-used the same bolts. They looked great, they were not bent or cracked but since I had my new bolts I ended up putting on the new ones. Good luck 👍

Both sides were badly stuck. I got one side off with multiple days of soaking in PB Blaster + impact driver, but on the other side the head of the bolt rounded off trying to get it out. Working on options to try next.

@1AAuto
@1AAuto 5 лет назад
Thanks for checking us out! The front struts may be worn causing the vehicle to have a lower ride height in the front. The new shocks also may need a couple of weeks to settle. However, we can not guarantee the issue and would advise contacting the company from which you purchased the parts from for further assistance, thank you! +Hashpedia

That is a m12x65 bolt. Honda part: 90181-SNA-000 and they cost just under $3 dealer price. Those are not nearly as pricey as the bolts and nuts on the front struts which are an m14x57 bolt 90190-SNA-000 @ $7.63/ea dealer price and the lock nut 90213-SR3-013 @ $8.58/ea dealer price. You're looking at $65+tax for just the 4 lower bolts and nuts for the front struts... Whereas the the rears only need two bolt and no nuts at a cost of $6+tax. (well, assuming it doesn't break like in this video. I'd recommend treating with PB blaster or something similar for several days before if possible.) Honda calls for replacing these bolts every time which may or may not be necessary depending on your climate, miles, and age of the car... I replace these when they are corroded and rusted beyond a slight surface patina. It's an easy decision considering the next time, if not replaced when in bad condition, you'll end up having to deal with the situation in this video. The front struts bolts are quite expensive, but again, I don't think it's worth having to go through dealing with breaking bolt heads off. Now the front lower strut bolts don't have a welded capture nut, but they are in a prime area for constant exposure to moisture. If the car is from anywhere with salted roads in the winter, it is simply wise to replace these bolts and nuts every time and add some anti seize or other thread filler to assure the next repair doesn't turn out to be unnecessarily difficult.

Does changing the rear shocks mess with the alignment of the car?
@d-s-ll2378
@d-s-ll2378 4 года назад
1st, use pneumatic bolt breaker to loose the bolt shank, or part of the threads. 2nd, if condition allows, fire heating nut, water it, heating and water several times, then easy to unthread it. When bolt is rust freezed with bushing coller, impact the bolt head is the better way, like do with rust freezed german lug bolt!
@deminybs
@deminybs 3 года назад
Oh yeah I'll be doing these too lol, hoping no bolts break but when I switched rotors the 2 phillips screws that hold each on was so rusted you couldn't get them out without stripping them, that was even with 2 people....on to put force forward and the other to use a wrench to torque the screwdriver....🤣🤣🤣 just spent half the night drilling every single one out .....ugh.. sometimes I miss my foxbody mustang.... usually when I gotta work on the vehicle haha. The Honda is just more of a pain cuz less space/more complicated steps but hey gotta learn somehow
