This video shows you how to replace the rear trailing arm bushing on your 2012-2020 Ford Focus. Rear trailing arm bushings cushion the movement of the suspension and hold the wheel in the correct position. Clunking sounds or a shimmying feeling while driving can indicate that your rear trailing arm bushings require replacement.

Very helpful! I would suggest marking the orientation of the bushing prior to removal and then align the new bushing accordingly prior to installation. That will ensure that the 2 mounting 'ears' are parallel to frame when installing the bolts. I noticed that in this video, the ears were perhaps 30 degrees off from prarallel and this will preload and stress the rubber of the new bushings.

Absolutely amazing work. I trained as an aircraft mechanic but dabble in d.i.y car stuff. Currently working on my sister's car and needed tips for removing the bushing. Can this procedure be done on an 06 focus? The bushings look the same.

try to move with hand or with leg from the back to the front! just step your leg on wheel and press it, if u hear some noises then is bad.. or take off the wheel and move it, check the cracks..

@@thestig1899 Need to do the same to my Mazda5 which is the exact same setup. Did you replace only the bushings or the entire trailing arms? Sucks how much of a pain it is just to replace bushings. I was thinking about going that route but I'd have to take the entire arm completely off and take it somewhere to press in the bushing. Maybe if it wasn't going into winter here I could do it on the street but I can't take on that kind of project knowing I have to have my car back on the ground that day. Also did you do the work yourself and it not how much did it cost roughly?

I bought two of these trailing arms for $350 a piece oem. I quickly found out by the alignment shop after leaving cause he said the rear toe adjuster was maxed out at +32 not even on chart. Then he signaled his friend that workes there ,he recommended loosing the trailing arm bushing bolts that worked alot it then went to +17 . im looking for +10 , we didn't finish cause we didnt know at the time i stayed thinking about it. For five more hours there is more to it than just installing it. Same goes for the front struts. After thinking about it. I still need to go under the car unloosen the rear trailing arm bushing bolts and on the trailing arm bracket holes actually side left to right 👍. So when i installed them the first time i didnt slid anything. For the back left standing behind the car left . I Need to loosen the bolts again and pull it out to the left then tighten it. And fir the right side pull it out to the right after you lossen the bolts and it will slide on the bushing bolt hole backets al in the air with a jack and pull it by and or by bar . The front strut when the bolts loose are pull the stuts up or down. What ever way the alignment readings say you needed. For caster.. . All i can say is nobody actually does or shows this job right. Cause tou will be thinking crazy someone saying your new stuff wont line up toe on car. Had me thinking for ever.. the rest of my full suspension is from trq. And for 06 civic coupe. The mounting point on the traiking arm the bushing where the bolts go on the civic are wide not circle. Give room for alignment . And for the front some caster. Probably the .4 everyone is missing in caster.
