*So amazingly quiet and **Fastly.Cool** in my room! 42db is at a whisper level. I bought 2 and installed myself.Very sturdy bracket and easy to adjust to fit windows of different size. Absolutely fabulous units!!*

What a great video. I live in the UK in an old victorian house built in 1878, Replacing 10 large sash windows in wood is way beyond my budget. My frames are all ok but the sashes suffer from previous owner trying just to put thicker panes of glass in which resulted in poor thin putty so am going to set about renovating them all this way. I was never sure about routing the frames etc but seeing this gives me the confidence to get on and do it, even if it takes me two summers. Brilliant video and very well presented. Well done lad.

That's brilliant, thanks so much for taking the time to put this online. I've been looking for options for how to do exactly this with the windows in our house in France, where the frames are in good shape, but we want to upgrade to double glazing for all the reasons you mentioned. This is a great detailed guide!

Good job and definitely the way to go for the aesthetics, sustainability and long term cost rather than replacing whole units. Im worried about shards of glass on your lawn area though!

Have managed to find the butyl tape in the UK too. I'd never heard of it before, always thought windows were fixed with putty, though recently found double glazing is often siliconed, though as it seems to break down faster than putty, I'm not sure why it's used? Last time I inserted double glazed argon units I used normal linseed putty, and they seem fine (15 years or so later). Thanks for very clear step by step video

A great video. Can you provide the link for the glass supplier in China. And one tip or advice. Do I need to rebate the wood on my door or window wider with a double glazing unit? I understand the need to router down deeper to fit the fatter unit in. But how about width to fit in the dry glazing system. Just wondering as want to measure my openings from the outside to order the new units. But do I order them to the exact same size as existing single glass or a few ml wider, say 2ml each side or something like that. Any tips

Hey mate, great video. Very much appreciated as it just helped me do my house. Is it necessary to silicone over butyl tape on the inside? I'm worried about it getting dusty but I have exposed timber and don't want to mess it up with silicon either.
@WeemakechangeCoNz
@WeemakechangeCoNz 2 года назад
hey no need for silicon. The silicon approach is a whole different way to do it.

love this weell. done, i have 28 windows i have just ordered, i like your idea of the dry install. the guy i bought off has given me silion (nautral cure) why did you choose to go dry over other methods?
@WeemakechangeCoNz
@WeemakechangeCoNz 2 года назад
basically because silicon will break down over time
@Tonisuperfly
@Tonisuperfly 9 месяцев назад
Another reason to not use silicone is that it’s hard to paint over because nothing sticks to it. Even if you’re not putting it on a surface that will receive paint, you run the risk of overflow squeezing out or residue being left by accidental blobs or fingerprints.

What is the minimum thickness of the inner lip that is left once you have routed the recess for the DG unit? My windows circa 67 are bevelled on the inner side so I may have to increase the overall size of the frame, however that poses a problem of fitting adequate closures on the awning window. Any advice? Do the Chinese offer argon gas filled and/or Low E coatings? What % difference in cost landed and delivered was there between DG units manufactured here in NZ and the Chinese imports?
@WeemakechangeCoNz
@WeemakechangeCoNz 7 лет назад
Hey, our windows doors are about 45mm thick and there is approx 18mm from the outside face to the pane. Does that help you? Yes Chinese offer argon and low e. I find cost difference around 3-4 times cheaper.

Hi I am coming to the point where I want to find a Chinese supplier, however there are hundreds on the net and most only deal with min orders of 100 or more units. Can you let me know which supplier you used please. Thanks

I’ve been thinking about doing this to my windows, they are 70 years old and need to be reglazed. Problem is, I have 14 windows that each have four panes, which are built in a way that I have to keep the four panes. Good video though thanks

In the U.K....you would have to put 'safety glass' in a door or any low level glazing !
@brainwashingdetergent4322
@brainwashingdetergent4322 3 года назад
What do you mean, is it a requirement by law? Also, do you mean laminated glass?
@sreval
@sreval 3 года назад
@@brainwashingdetergent4322 In the the U.K.....Yes ! Either toughened or laminated both are safety, or if you have glass in there already....you coud apply a Safety film !....Bob

Don't do it for the thermal qualities, heating and cooling is on average only 30% of your energy bill. Glass is responsible for around 10% of your energy loss. Going with the best glass will reduce this to 5%. So at best, you have 5%/3 = 1.6% lowering in your energy bill by replacing all your glass. Imo, don't bother and insulate your roof instead.
@nnaheim.
@nnaheim. 2 года назад
Yeah but in NZ all roof spaces are thermally insulated already, double glazing in def warmer and quieter
