Here are some of the tools that jimthecarguy uses www.amazon.com... Step by step procedure on how to diagnose no AC and replace the compressor 2008 Honda CRV
Jim thanks for the great video on testing and R/R of AC compressor on 2009 Honda CRV. It saved me about $635.00 to do it myself by watching your video.
Great. I'm happy to help. Don't forget subscribe and hit the bell for notifications of any new video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Xw_RqXxQI2o.html
Jim, Thank you for this fantastic video on replacing the AC compressor. I have a 2007 CRV and was quoted over $1800 to replace the compressor. With your help and step by step instructions I am in it for a little over $335. I know the car is not worth over $3000 but now we have a second great car that will last for several more years. Thanks again, much appreciated!
Thank you Jim. Great step by step which saved me about $1,200. First ac repair on my part so I’m glad that I found your video and bought the required tools.
Another awesome video Jim! This vid helped me tremendously as I swapped my old Honda CRV compressor for a new one. I will note that the top low pressure line bolt was pretty seized. I ended up using a universal joint on a really long extension to get the access or torque needed by coming from the top down. Keep the great videos coming!
I would like people to call R-134a "refrigerant" or "R-134a". R-12 was called "Freon'. Oh, me? A retired 50 year fleet mechanic and an ASE certified mechanic for Auto and HD Truck. Yes, too many PRO mechanics call that R134a refrigerant "Freon" but just 'cuz they do, does not mean it's right. This is a good video on the procedure to replace the compressor! Thanks!
I have a 2009 CRV and the AC is only working intermittently. This was an interesting video and the information in the comments section was very helpful as well.
Thanks for ac compressor replacement video. AC worked perfectly to/from trip until accelerating up hill when cool air stopped. Just questioning why a single owned garaged car/compressor with 114M miles should need replacement. Thanks again.
Thank you for the step by step video. With your video and Chris fix video on recharging, i completed the evacuation, installation and recharge on my 2011 Crv. Thanks
That was a fine job with the air conditioner compressor, and I know it must have been difficult to get the old one out, and the new one in, but the customer will be happy, and you have earned the money paid for that repair job.
Why would it be difficult for, it looks very easy to due, damn its easier than changing my oil on my SUV, but I replaced an engine from the ground, just used jack stands and a jack with Bundy cords to hold ac unit out of way, it was the easiest engine I ever done and didn't use any lifts, no friends work in garages anymore, so no use of a lift after hour's for free. It's easy if your smart. No creeper neither, just cardboard with old shirt on that slides well. Happy working hard if this is hard, hate to see a Frame swap done on a 1980 chevy pickup, no lift, 3 friends to lift cab off frame and walk off, 14 bolts holds the nose on and easy to take off to change engine, its stupid hard to get engine up and over radiator support now. 20 minutes and 2 people, the nose walks off. Then your great to go as 1.
Thank you for this video Jim. It made my 2010 CRV compressor replacement and recharging of the system a breeze. A/C is Ice cold and no more whining noise!!!!!
Awesome job Jim! My son’s 2006 Civic Si ac clutch stops working after the engine is running about 20 minutes. Both radiator/condenser fans remain running , except the clutch. Once the engine cools off, it’ll function normal for 20 minutes. Any suggestions or advice will be appreciated.
If the new compressor is pre-filled with oil, you just install it? denso video wants people to measure oil in old compressor and adjust the oil level in new compressor, is that necessary?
Where did you buy your compressor from? Any knowledge you care to share on OE or aftermarket parts, maybe a specific brand you'll take if not OE?! Please and thank you.
To check a static charge of refrigerant you only need one guage line on low side preferred also this is a typical AC compressor CLUTCH failure very common on Honda and does not require the removal of the refrigerant nor the Entire Compressor to repair but most shops dont want to do this because the lose labor and parts money. Also you can purchase the clutch alone for a fraction of the cost of the entire Compressor
how do you confirm if its just the pulley? i hear these compressors are prone to going so is it worth the hassle to just do the pulley? do you need to disconnect the lines and remove the compressor to swap the pulley?
This comment is very wrong while you can only add refridgerant to the low side you have to add based on sub cooling and that is the measurement of the saturated temperature of the high side minus the line temp
Hi Jim! Great video. I have a question. If the compressor is not locked up. All pressures are normal and I have voltage from the clutch relay to the clutch, is it a possible answer the the clutch could bad and not the entire compressor?
What does it mean if it's leaking? When the AC is on in my 2008 honda crv, what looks to be water starts leaking under the car. When the AC is off, it doesn't leak.
Happened to me twice this summer 2020, Driving in the freeway at 75mph with the a c on,and suddenly after an hour of driving the a c stop blowing cold air. After 5 minutes the cold air came back.I replaced the condenser cooling fan that I thought was the culprit because the temp went up when it happened.Yesterday it happened again Driving home from O.C to Palmdale about 90miles drive after about 70 miles of driving it happened again cooling stopped for 5 minutes and came back. What do you think is the culprit,Any DIY or AC expert. Please share if you know the fix. Thanks.
Good video Jim. You covered some basics that will help most any body. At least when I got to an A/C shop to have some work done I'll know a little about what's going on.
Jim did change the dryer my Honda compressor is still working A/C but bearings off clutch are make noise have we determined it the compressor original compressor 134,000 miles l be changing it out myself with help.
Hi Jim. I replaced the compressor myself. I didn't vacuum before I removed it tho. When i installed new one the compressor n clutch did turned on but there was no cold air coming from vents only warm. I drove for 2 days but I was not turning on the ac. When I got my vacuum pump I vacuumed the system 2 times and then i tried to charge with refrigerant but it seems that it wont take it. Now my problem is that the clutch doesn't engage and so I can turn on the ac but there is warm air coming from the vents only and my lines pressure both are around 80-86 psi. What could be the problem?
I reached to the compressor seller n asked how much oil does the compressor needed to have they said 120 ml but dont know how much oil was in When I installed it but the said it did come with some oil in it.
Thanks Jim, Told that my compressor seized, likely sending shards/contaminants into system, so I need to replace with 5 pc kit (compressor, condenser, drier, expansion valve, oil, O-rings... Questions: 1. What remaining parts I don't change (hoses/pipes) do I need to air flush repainting pipes before connecting hi/lo to new compressor (of contaminants)? 2. Once everything assembled, can I for a very short time (minutes) test run the compressor to make sure in goes on (prior to vacumming/recharging w/ refrig.)? I plan to have local shop recharge. Again, thanks for great video.
Im planning on installing a bypass pulley and completely remove the ac compressor. Will this same removal process work for a 2002 Honda CRV model? FYI i tried looking for the small serpentine belt gates k070553 to bypass the AC and not deal with the hassle of removing the AC, but the parts store will receive tuesday and i needed my honda to be on the road ASAP.
Good video. My situation is just a little different. (2009 Honda CRV AWD) My AC is running even if the AC control on the dash is off, note I/m not refering to the defrost setting. I pulled the relay and it shuts off but when I plug it in the AC clutch engages. I also have removed the wiring harness at the interior control and I still have the clutch running. It eventually kicks off after what I think is the hi or low preesure switch kicks in and then stays off until the pressure stabilizes. I think it might be a faulty clutch that is grounding out and causing the issue but not sure of any tricks to test for this. Note, this started on this past Sunday and on Saturday I had to drive for several hours in a major rain storm. Any thoughts?
great video,i will be replacing my compressor and condensor, but do not have a vacum pump,so once i have installed it,can i drive it to a shop and get it vacum and charged
Just a point of technicality. When Jimmy says there is power at the clutch connector and because there is power present the compressor is bad. What he really should say is the clutch is bad. The compressor maybe fine it's just the clutch that is faulty. However the reason he says this is because these days you sometimes cannot get a clutch assembly by it;s self and just swap it out. You have to get an entire new compressor. And also Jimmy being a shop if he just changed out the clutch and the compressor failed in a year and he offers a 2 year warranty hows he going to explain that to the customer. So it's a better angle for him to replace the clutch and compressor even though technically there may not be anything wrong with the compressor.
Thanks for the great video!! I'm doing the same job plus the condenser this weekend!! I bought the same light and your right, it's awsome!! Thanks again!!
Many thanks, an exceptionally good explanation & video. I read somewhere that the system should be flushed after purging to prevent potentially damaging debris from the failed failed compressor contaminating the new compressor. You make no reference to this, what are your thoughts?
If the clutch is the only problem (the internal workings of the compressor were not the issue causing failure) then there is most likely no need to purge the system. If the compressor itself and not the clutch went bad, then a purge is necessary. The condenser would also need to be replaced as it would be the first place the debris would go and it's channels are usually just to small to completely clean. And they are cheap, especially compared to replacing another compressor.
Thanks for the vídeo. I have a 2007 crv my questions are how do I charge the compressor before putting refrigerant? I dont have the machine that you have to vacuum? Is it necessary to vacuum? Can I just put refrigerant after install the compressor?
Awesome how to ... I have a 2013 CRV that climbs to expected pressure when the compressor cycles on then falls off approximately 15psi. It also takes what seems like a long time to return to a balanced static pressure after the car is turned off. Any suggestions?
Bradley Crouch I tried to remove the ac compressor of my 2013 crv but there is no room to pull it out from the button of the car. Any idea how you took it out?
Hi Jim, if a compressor does not come with oil, do you add oil directly into the compressor? Do you add oil to the suction or discharge, [ where the lines connect ] THANKS FRIEND
Hi Jim. My mom has this same exact year and model. Her AC went out and took it to three different shops which told her that the compressor is bad. All quoted her from $1600-$1800! After watching your video I feel like I can replace this compressor fairly easy myself. Any other key suggestions you would make on doing it myself? Thanks in advance 🤠
Hi. I have a 08 crv honda with just 95, 000 miles. Done checked the relay & the clutch is seized up. I'll pretty mechanically inclined with more than 20 yrs of experience. Just wanted to see if this is a job that I could do w/ the help of my sons to do it myself? AutoZone sells some & with it you can get a vacuum loaner tool for free. Just trying to save a alot of money & I normally don't like for other people to work on my cars. Is it a very strenuous job or moreless time consuming? Hope to hear from you soon as I'm going to be doing it with next wk. Best regards. Mike
I do a live stream Sunday night on jimthecarguy at 7:00 PM (EST).I will talk about this and how to repair it.Let me know in the chat section when your there.
I’m getting ready to do this job, any reason to replace condenser and drier if the compressor didn’t catastrophically fail and just the clutch went bad. (Which is what I’m assuming happened in your case)
jimthecarguy. Thanks for the reply. I do car repairs on the side for friends and family for extra a little extra income. We have decided to just replace the clutch assembly since it’s a 60 dollar part and when i lightly tap the current clutch the AC engages and blows cold. I don’t want to open up the system if I don’t have to.
Can the compressor stop the engine from turning over? I’ve been driving the CRV for days and nothing happened until this morning. It was cold here and just didn’t start.
I think mine is in the same state. It blows intermittently cold/hot. So if the compressor is blowing cold or if it’s empty is how you know the compressor failed?
Honda CRV has a very weak ac compressor installed in the factory. Depending on the part number, some of them are remanufactured Sanden brand. My 2012 CRV ac compressor failed at 50k miles. Honda is cutting cost on their vital parts.
I'm finding new compressors at Advance auto parts and other parts places, under $295 for New with oil in it too. Also they carry different ones, the one that seams to be good os Demco I think if spelled right, use their spark plugs and coil packs on many things, they also have AC DELCO brand and 3 reman ones, threw Honda they cost $550 these are new or Reman under $300 bucks. Factory don't last so why spend more if you don't get the miles on it.
Good job brother. I have 2010 Honda crv, The AC work perfectly and really cold but sometimes it's never work, help me please if you know the problem.. thanks
I assume this goes back to you saying in another video...if the clutch is bad... same price overall as changing the whole unit .. parts and labor :) :)
ChicagoDoItYourself Now replacing just the clutch is a lot cheaper than a new compressor probably a air gap problem with the clutch sometimes tap them with a long pry bar or screwdriver and they will kick in and run
Well if you're doing it yourself.. sure... but people aren't happy when they have to come back for the same thing even if they only spent $10 to get on the road again and yes... could last for years or...... for myself sure why not but.. a customer .. nope... .. replacing a clutch on that vehicle on the car.. nah.. not for me.. This guy talks to his customers.. gives them the story... I can do that but... so.. I still go for the thumbs up : )
ChicagoDoItYourself Now I agree no one likes comebacks but any part can fail at anytime that new compressor might make it a day or a week and come apart all this stuff is made cheap and usually over seas my point was the compressor was good the clutch was bad but a clutch probably $50 a new compressor $150 plus
You forgot to flush the a/c lines and the condenser, replace the drier filter and the expansion valve as well, that repair wont last because the evaporator core has to be flushed out as well....to bad
In this case you don't have to flush out the whole system because the clutch coil was the failure. If the internal parts of the compressor failed then yes you would need to flush. Thanks for watching and your input.
If any pressure in lines, does that mean ac compressor isn't good ? If none in line then all leaked out threw O-rings on lines most likely ? Don't want used but bought a used vehicle and that's what there replacing it with, just don't trust them at all, already been screwed but they don't know I know it, I need to ask after its fixed. Then I can sue them for damages that's hidden up by them, just need to get the same answers I got the 1st time test drive, then the 2nd time test drive, but I must record it. The only way from the lawyer's said and my state is a 1 person consent. I'm the consenting party and can go after for damages that's hidden, can get my money back or try to get $1500 knocked off, then worth price.
