This video is a step-by-step demonstration of how to remove and replace the door gasket on the GE Ultrafresh Front Load Washing Machine. In the process I discover that the Smart Dispenser is also leaking, and we resolve that as well. I hope this video is of help to you!
Here are the parts I used:
Door Boot Bellows Gasket Seal: WH05X29514
Boot Gasket Spring Clamp: WH05X29663
Check out ‪@bensappliancesandjunk‬ 's video on the outer band installation hack. Works great!

A piece of advice. It's much easier to properly replace the door gasket on this model if you remove the lower counter balance. Mainly because there are two small hidden plastic tabs on the of the bottom outer tub that line up with and are seated into two small holes on the lower inner door gasket. Behind the drain holes. These are not visible with the lower counter balance installed. If these aren't seated, the door gasket will bulge in the lower drain hole area after installation and possibly, more than likely leak. One extra step could definitely save you from having a recall. - Supreme Appliance Services - - Northern Kentucky-

Thank you!!! You just saved me a ton of trouble. I assumed my gasket was leaking until I saw the dispeser paet. I went and checked ours and low and behold, my wife had accidentally put a dryer sheet in the soap dispenser thinking it was a soap sheet. It had blocked the darin partially causing overflow and leaking! Hoorah!!!

Just a FYI, when you showed your soap dispenser was leaking, I took mine out and found that one of the kids had put some kind of soap not made for the machine in it and it plugged up the lines. I took it out and ran hot water (both directions) and a big old blob came out. After I cleared it out it no longer leaked. Something for others to look at before changing out the door gasket.

Yes, good point. Visiting my sister last week, she showed me her SmartDispenser. The appliance store had filled it with powdered detergent before she bought it! It was clogged and wouldn’t work until I removed the gray and rinsed it out.

Gald to see you need a mechanical engineering degree to replace a bloody washing machine gasket. Thanks GE for building absolute garbage. Easier to pay $500 for a new one than to wait 2 months for a repair guy and pay him $400 plus $100 in a new part.

The last 10 minutes of this video were nothing short of brilliant! Putting on the wire ring with a zip tied wrench worked perfectly. 🙏🙏🙏

I got the spring on with my fingers I rolled it around until all the wire was in the channel and I pushed the spring down and it popped in like yours did when you cut the ties. Thank you for this video as I’ve never done this before but I’ve also never changed out an ac system on my car and I knocked that out so I like the video but the only thing I would have included with that black square connector that you were trying to connect at the end. I couldn’t figure out how to get it out but then realized the entire black square comes out not just the harness.

We've had the GE Ultrafresh 850 and the matching electric dryer for 2.5 years. I liked the idea of not having to keep the door open to vent it and the automatic soap dispenser. They run well, but MAN OH MAN are they high maintenance! The washer is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean, and I've had both apart twice and replaced multiple parts since since buying them. Our washer had the same dispenser leak as yours, but the water was not leaking from the drawer opening itself. The water drain holes ABOVE THE DRAWER got plugged with sludge and the pressure blew a hole in the gasket between the drawer housing and the housing's top cover. I ended up replacing the entire assembly. It was NOT CHEAP and didn't even come with the drawer face/handle! Anyway, the leak got into the door's locking mechanism. I had to break it open, tear it apart, clean it out and spray everything with contact cleaner. I also use a small pressure washer to clean out the water pump when I clean the pump filter screen. NASTY. Now the automatic moisture sensor(s) on the dryer is not working and the clothes are left damp. It wastes electricity, but I've had to switch to a 60-75 minute timed dry. Any fix tip for that would be welcome.

did your gasket on the front fail as well? I've had one for about the same length of time as yours...

Just replaced mine yesterday. One thing missed here for installing the gasket at least on my 2023 655 series just like this …those left and right arrows are ok for reference but what really counts is that there are two flat plastic tabs that are at the bottom of the plastic tub facing in towards the drum. You’ll need a flashlight. They are About 3/8 of an inch wide. They must, must match up exactly and go through the corresponding cut outs in the new blue gasket. I carefully used a flat tip screwdriver to press the gasket around these tabs. This is what is going to 100 percent align the gasket. If you don’t do this you are going to have rubbing from the drum in the gasket and have noise and or other problems. Line the gasket up with the cutouts first Not sure what all ge washers have these tabs

Very informative video. I wanted to see if I could do this myself, as I've been waiting for GE to fix mine since January 21st 2024 .I've been 25 days without a washer ..they mailed to reapir gasket 6 days ago and here I wait still. Sadly, this is beyond my scope since I am disabled. GE is not what it used to be . No service after the sale. My washer/dryer is 6 months old and the gasket destroyed itself inside the washer..nothing sharp, nothing but a set of sheets. I'll never buy another GE appliance. I do thank you for providing a good video so people can fix their own appliance...because they very well may need to.

I have the same washer. My drain pump just went out it's not even 3 years old. Pump will be in tomorrow nobody local had it in stock. Just a tip. I noticed my dispenser had water in the fabric softener space. I took the dispenser out and unclipped the top. I used hot water in the laundry sink and reversed flushed it. So much dried up kaka came out. I also noticed on your machine it had a lot of buildup where the dispenser goes. Mine had some but not as bad as yours. I cleaned mine out with a brush. Also if you look above where the water comes down from to go into the dispenser I also had build up. I scrubbed that as well. G.E. replaced my bellows under warranty but my warranty expired so anything else is on me. The drain pump is pretty easy to R&R. I also saw Bens video to use the wrench to get that damn spring back on. Can't wait for that tomorrow. :) By the way if anyone else has a drain issue a good pump ohm's out at 19.7 (or close it's 19 point something) mine was 1.62 so not even close.

Thanks for the help and process of changing the gasket. The silicone was a good idea and I am sure if you need to get back into it it won't be a problem getting off the silicone.

for 2.5-3 years I've owned a GE model one step below the auto soap dispenser one you are working on. in that time, I've averaged maybe 3-4 loads of laundry a month and yesterday I found my bathroom flooded. the product worked great for the entire time I've had it until this disaster. with that few loads of laundry and that time span you would think the product would last longer without issues. I'll be calling GE tomorrow to see exactly what that 10-year warranty sticker is worth. after reading all the rest of the comments it seems like 2.5-3 years is the point where people start having problems. its a damned shame in the reviews there are not follow up time periods. i never would have bought a front load had i known what i know now...

I’m sorry to hear your room flooded. You may be right about the machines working well for 2.5-3 years before needing repairs. It may be a tactic companies use to stay in business. If every machine lasted 10+ years, sales would drop. We used our machines heavily, so I can’t complain. Thanks for watching and commenting!

You can do the wrench. You could also get vice grips and clip on the edge of the spring on one side and pull then use your other finger and slide the ring in. Much easier.

Great tutorial - thank you so much! I would have went with Plumbers Putty to seal the smart dispenser rather then silicon. Silicone, when harden, as you know, acts like an adhesive and will be difficult to take off - where as plumbers putty will remain a putty when you take it off. Just a thought though... Great job!

great video and lots of great information! How old is this washer machine? Do you keep door closed and detergent tray closed after wash? I ask cause of the mold around the dispenser and the gasket. also if you do keep them closed the door gasket fan is that really doing anything to prevent mold?
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 Год назад
I believe we purchased the machine in August of 2020 (3 years ago). We usually keep the door and detergent tray closed as the laundry room is a small, high traffic area. The vent option helps because 1) the laundry room is high traffic and 2) my husband is a door closer (subconsciously, automatically cleans and straightens). If I could do something differently, I’d leave the door open during vacations… or I wouldn’t let anyone else use/touch the machine, but that’s a bit too extreme for me.
@davegrunwald3762
@davegrunwald3762 8 месяцев назад
We use ours almost every day and never leave the door open. We always just run the vent cycle. No mold or nasty buildup, just some hair and dog fur at the bottom of the gasket where the drain holes are.

Instead of using a wrench, I got a pair of scissors and stuck the points into each part of the wire gasket and then held the scissors open and my wife pushed it around the rest of the way
