How to Replace the Gear Shift Bushings on a 2002 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner

Thank you for the video. I fixed mine today using your video as a guide! The shop was going to charge me $105.00 to do it. The only problem I ran in to was my 3 screws in the white piece were so tight, I almost stripped them. But with prayer and WD -40 I got them! Great video! ❤

Great Video...I was having to undo my negative battery cable just to remove my key. I was told it would be $$$ to repair, linkage this and cable that. After listening to his explanation and estimate I said I would return with my truck for repairs. Never being one to blindly trust a "mechanic" I did some research. I remembered him mentioning "bushings" that is when I found your video. Ordered the parts got the tools together and about an hour later...SUCCESS!!! Thank you so much. S. Ries

Took shroud off sprayed W-40 on mechanism that pushes in key release area cleaner dirt and grime...put key in turned off and on key came out every time... bushings were fine

Roy, many thanks for this explainer video. No doubt... had I visited pretty much any mechanic... and I hazard to say my trusted mechanic, this $10 part and 1-hour self-repair might have been a transmission situation costing a whole lot more. My '03 Tacoma is in love with you today!

I dont have any of these issues but suspect i will soon. I noticed that when i accel or decel i can feel the gear selector move.. it will rock fwd or backward depending on which way im going.. and if i hit the gas harder it will move more.. wonder if its a bushing or something loose…

Aloha Roy...great video! My 2001 Tacoma PreRunner has 308k and I've been babying that shifter for too long. Just a quick question, it looks as if 1 person can do the project as long as they press the brake when in need of shifting the lever during the removal and install. Would that be correct? Thanks!

Anyone have the bushing part number or link to to where to buy it. My Toyota dealer is saying the part is obsolete

Do the bushings have to be for a prerunner or will the regular Tacoma bushings work

Do you have to depress the brake pedal to move the shifter out of park?

I removed the two screws on the shifter , to try to clean the shifter and now when I put in the screw , it doesn’t want to give me the key , but when I don’t I gives me the key what do I have to do ?
