How to replace the inflation valve on a basketball

Hey Bernard, Thank God I found your video explaining all of this. I can't imagine throwing away a Basketball I had so many memories with. The look and texture of a Broken-In Basketball give it character too. It's a waste to get rid of a ball because it doesn't retain air and has a valve issue. Anyways I found this on Amazon and wanted to ask you if these are the right valves for a basketball of if they're similar to the ones you used. If that were the case it would be much easier to accidentally push the valve all the way into the ball.

now I'm serious, what if the rubber valve goes inside the ball? do I buy a new valve, or I get the rubber first?

There's usually a reason why the valve fell inside and it's probably because it's damaged. That sounds difficult or impossible. Sorry

Sorry about the late reply. Is the needle inside the ball or the valve? Can you hear the needle if you shake the ball?

no i left the needle and the whole needle in ball after i deflated. it not inflate. but i went and research your replacement and got an idea to put rubber cement in the valve because i not find replacements. and it worked. i just shot some glue rubber cement f rom my bike patch kit in the hole and then put the needle in to swish it around and now my ball is ok. so if the valve for some reason come away from the ball walls and leak out that is why . try my solution first and put in some glue.. it might only also be a slight map adjustment of the valve saved me 35.oo for a new ball . thanks

Inside? I believe There's no other solution For that but to open your ball. 😅 or just leave it inside and do what's on the tutorial.

RAMIL MANAIG Hi you can find them on eBay or what I did was ask my local gym for a dead basketball that was deformed but where the valve was in good condition. Then I cut it out

Vadim A hmm. tough one. it's possible that the valve may need to be re seated. or the shape of the valve channel and the valve are not the same

It may be possible that most basketballs have a standard size valve. In my video, I used a Wilson valve to repair a Spalding basketball

Can you use a working valve from an old basketball to replace a broken one? And how can you remove it? I opened the ball with a knife, but iI don't want to pull it out incorrectly. Please help.

+Milos2ek yes you can make sure you cut the ball away from the valve that you need. you have to carefully trim the valve "holder" away from the valve with a small sharp knife with the blade facing away from the valve

Adrian OLDGAMESGamer I had to take out an old valve from the inside of my first ball that I replaced the valve on. it rattled inside annoyingly. I managed to get it out with an alligator forceps and patience and an annoyed wife

unlucky I don't have an alligator forceps.

yes it is an older NBA game ball. I have another one in mint condition with a new valve replaced. as soon as I went to pump it it leaked air so I took it out and replaced it with a new one

Good to know, as I'll be doing the valve replacement on the same ball. Funny thing is on my other older NBA game ball which is well over a decade old, the valve is still going strong!

Are you at the step of placing the new valve?

@@bernardmayantz7280 yeah. The removal was stressful as well, as it broke off inside, but I'm pretty sure I got it all out

Try using some shaving cream to lubricate the new valve and use some blunt tool to slip the wide part of the new valve through
