How to Replace the Lock in a Pella Casement Window 

Appreciate this video ... surprisingly this is the only one that I could find on the Pella casement window locking mechanism. Going to attempt a repair on one of my windows this spring (Y2022). Will try and follow-up with comments on my repair experience.

We built our home in the early 2000's and decided on Pella windows & doors. We found rotting on many windows at 10 years of ownership and just a few months after the warranty expires (warranty starts when builder buys windows, and not when the homeowner takes possession of the new home). There was a class action lawsuit on the quality defect (defective seals allow water to run into the bottom frame) making it impossible to negotiate with the local distributor. Pella Corporation knew of the problem and did not issue a recall thereby allowing their customers' windows to rot slowly over time. 15+ years later every window in our house needs maintenance often as they are of poor design, materials, and workmanship. Anything mechanical on the windows is lightweight and causes constant problems. I strongly suggest not buying Pella products.

I have Pella casements that were installed around 98. They have been constant maintenance since I bought the house in 2001. Recently have found rot on the bottom sills - a major headache to fix. The cam locks have broken on one. The frames on several that get sun exposure came unglued and had to be dismantled and reinforced. The crank mechanisms still work but the windows have settled in the frame and the bottom tracks have to be shimmed up to fix them. Unbelievable, these were super high end windows and end of life is coming up on just 25 years.

I have that exact window. I'm having issues with the fix pane casement window. The outside glass is broken and pella want to replace the entire bay window at $6000. A local glass company will repair the glass but I have to remove the fix pane casement window

Good video; the directions that come with the parts are terrible. The Pella customer service was pretty good and identified the correct hardware through measurements of the glass. Regarding the video, I would add that some versions of the Pella window have MUCH larger nails that can not be snipped off as described and my model also had quarter-round too (the latter does not need to be removed BTW). You could use a Dremel if you have one to cut off the nails. I reused my nails but only because the nails were perfectly aligned and straight as well. Lastly, the wood is so delicate that using a 12" pry-bar is not advised - it's too thick and cracks the wood easily. Buy a smaller 6" one instead and use several putty knives for additional leverage. You NEED the pry-bar unless you want to crack the wood. The slower you go on removing the wood, the less you will need to repair once the wood is removed. The wood is very, very soft and cracks/dents very easily. Thanks again for the video.

Video is just ok. it shows how to remove and replace stops. It shows nothing of installing and adjusting the locks. It did confirmed that the stops need to be removed. The narrator should be allowed nowhere near a microphone! That nasally California Millenial speak is an ice pick to the ears, is insulting to the listener and makes me just want to slap her. Pella- is this really the voice you want for your company?
