Brian is simply one of the bests here in RU-vid. Experienced. Understand what he is saying. No camera man and uses one hand while working. Crack/disassembly the car parts loose, no-cut for all to see. No 2nd guessing and on-point.

No need to empty the reservoir fluid. As long as the hose remains higher than the reservoir itself the fluid will not pour out.

Thanks. Really good job of explaining the tough parts and how it all goes together. I don't know how you conveyed that much information in that little amount of time but you must be pretty good at film editing and communicating.

Thank you for your video. If you remove the huge black plastic cover on top of the engine, there'd be a gap big enough to slide a thin, long flathead screwdriver down to hold the end of the bottom bolt (of the pump) from moving, then you can put the new pump in and tighten the nut. Also, I think if you leave the wheels at left or right turn position instead of straight ahead position, the fluid would go down to the rack and pinion easier. I replaced the pump (wheels at straight posion), when I turned on the engine, the fluid level wouln't go down, hard to turn the steering wheel for a few seconds.

Brain I got a question. Can a leaky PS pump cause the timing belt to skip or fly off due to the oil on the camgears and the belt itself?

Excellent vid, but I'm hoping it's a pump issue and NOT the rack/pinion. Fluid spat out of the reservoir after the cap popped off, from what seemed like the pressure "build up". I replaced the reservoir and same thing happened. Golly, why'd this have to happen this time of yr here in western NY?😒😣

My pressure line that goes on top of the pump has a had vibration at touch, and the pump makes a slight noise at idle after replacing the return hose, belts and tensioner. I made sure to bleed it but still makes noise. Could the belt be on too tight or pump going bad?

Hey there, my power steering fluid leak started getting gradually worse since I bought this old reliable Odyssey van, now there is a obvious leak up top under the hood but I can't really tell where the leak is? What a mess! For now I am just going without power steering til I get it figured out. I am a DIY 'er due to funds, do you think most likely my leak is around the pump and reservoir, or maybe a leak underneath? I know it hard to tell without looking at it in person, but I can't afford to take it to a mechanic, it's my only vehicle, I am not really sure where to start without just throwing parts into it! I have some Honda fluid on the way from Amazon, what do you think i should do? Other than this power steering issue and chipping paint it's a very good van! Let me know? Thanks! My van is a 2003

Great instructive video! One question: After installing a new pump, reservoir and connecting hose, I filled up with fluid and ran the van a minute, then turned the wheels a bit (maybe not enough-didn’t go lock to lock). Hopped in and drove around the driveway, into the street, turned around and came back. Popped the hood and discovered the cap had blown off the reservoir and fluid lost. Any thoughts? I refilled and tried it again. Just from the shop to the garage (100 ft). Everything held up okay. I’m perplexed!
@McAdamsMechanics
@McAdamsMechanics 10 месяцев назад
So the system works on pressure, right? And fluid heats and expands. May have been too much air in the deeper parts of the van and expanded. Once it was out only fluid remained 👍

Question for you my friend, the high pressure line doesn't have a seal gasket when you put it back? my honda odyssey 04 is leaking from there, thank you.

The new pump from Honda should include the new seals
@TrikeSquadron

My local Honda Dealer wanted to "refurbish" my pump (replace seals or gaskets I guess? in my power steering pump) or replace it. They did a refurbish of my seal just 3 years ago! They sya it is not "leaking" and not making any noise like a problem, but noticed some "seepage" at the gaskets and one of the hoses (which they also wanted to replace) for a total price of over $900. I thought that sounded pretty fishy to me. They said the "seepage" was only noticeable because of dirt accumulating on the gaskets and hose areas. Is this just a con to get my to replace something that does not need doing?

I had to keep topping off my PS fluid and discovered it was leaking through the rack on my 2004' Ody. Tried a bottle of Lucas PS stop leak, unfortunately it didn't fully stop the leak but it did slow down the leak enough to save myself $700 for a rack replacement. After putting in the Lucas my PS pump started to whine, I guess the viscosity changed enough to cause the PS to make noise. Honda is very particular with their fluids so I an not sure I would recommend any stop leak of any kind for Honda's. I changed the O-ring on the inlet of the pump and used the Honda PS fluid, the noise went away.

Hey Brian does it start to make noise as a symptom like a bad bearing without turning the wheel when it running? Guess I'll listen the belt and spin all the pulleys to see where the noise is coming from. Great video 👍

Question: My 2001 Honda Odyssey steering wheel was becoming stiff to turn and now I have no power steering. There was no unusual sound comming from the pump but the engine would struggle upon a cold start and shake and now since there is no power steering the engine cold starts perfectly and is running smoth . Also, there are no leaks and the fluid is reading full on the power steering reservoir. Question: what is the problem and what needs replacement. Bad Power Steering Pump ? Clogged rack and pinion ? Bad Pressure Switch ? Clogged line ? Any help would be appreciated 👍

I should have tried doing this myself. Took my vehicle to my local shop, where I had been going for years. Picked up the part first, so was hoping to save some money and just pay for labor. They wanted $385 to put it in. $109 for a flush, then labor at $160/hr. Is this how much things cost these days ? It's the last time I ever visit that shop again, ridiculous !!!

You have to burp the air out of the system. How do you do that? From what I have seen, when its bubbling in the reservoir it means there's air trapped in the pump ot hoses.
@timault8209
@timault8209 Год назад
The pump will purge the air from the system via the reservoir. Procedure as follows: - Confirm max PS fluid level in reservoir (fill as necessary); remove PS reservoir cap - Idle engine for min. five minutes - Elevate vehicle and slowly turn steering wheel lock to lock; repeat five times. operates

I paid someone to replace the leaking top hose. Afterwards, it squealed like a banshee. They claimed it would just take time to bleed out the air. (B.S. - no change after a week) The dealer told me the only thing it could be is a bad pump. (Idiot) I used a turkey baster to remove the fluid from the reservoir. Hardly any spilled. I got the pump out. removed the bottom pipe and noticed there was no resistance. The new o-ring on top was very hard to pull off. This made me suspicious. I tested the spring of the o-ring. It broke into 3 pieces. I figured it was worth a shot, so I put on a new o-ring, put it all back together, and like magic, it works fine with no noise. I'm guessing when they replaced the hose, even though they didn't touch the bottom hose, while the fluid was drained out, the o-ring dried out and became like glass.
@cumshot247
@cumshot247 Год назад
How long was the fluid drained out? It takes years for an o-ring to become hard and brittle...🤔
@kowen5323
@kowen5323 Год назад
@cumshot247 less than an hour. All I know is, a new O ring was all it needed. It didn't make noise before the hose or after the O ring.
