Used a pair of side cutters and it worked flawlesly. Thanks for your very informative video, I got it fixed in a couple of minutes. 👍 Bonus tip: they also sell just the strap, without the ring: the broken strap can be removed by pressing out two small pins in the ring. The pins are black, so hard to see, but this way you have the option to only order a new strap and leave the original ring in place.
Thanks. For removing the old ring, It also works to score it with a carpet knife (or hot knife), then wedge in a thin screwdriver where weakened...stretch it until it breaks.
Thank-you just the solution to a the very problem I was trying to figure out! I’ve a diesel cap - I’ll need to make sure I buy the correct diameter replacement ring as I assume they may be different sizes.
I popped a flathead screwdriver in mine and popped it off in two seconds. Snapped the new one on…Leave it to a guy to always want to use power tools. 😉
This should have been a 15 second video. Insert a thin, flat blade screwdriver into the top edge of the tether and snap it open. Slip new tether over gas cap.
@diyhowtoandreviews it couldn't be avoided as I kept getting check my cap lights, which caused check engine lights, and poor gas mileage, not to mention the aftermarket replacement that i bought which I'll never do again.. What was I thinking?!?
Do not know what these guys from volvo do: - 2x rubber strap from tank cap - 2x joint of tap - 1x servo slave of central locking of the tank. 2007 XC90 D5, normal condition 😅 This happened 2018-2024. Could be worse, but 😂😂😂
