Very, very, VERY TIRED, but I got the job done thanks to you! It was a simple job like you said, it was just the element of doing something for the first time that made it feel so exhausting. Felt really rewarding however once everything was finished and I heard the sound of my Corolla running again! Thanks again 😊👍

Two Thumbs up. My 260 000km Corolla had this exact problem, was able to do it in 3h 😂😴. But hey, the part cost me 30$, no labor, and hopefully this car will last another 100 000km😁

An awesome detailed tutorial. I would recommend this tutorial to anyone, it's very clear and concise. Because I'm not a mechanic and unfortunately do come from a layman's point of view, I would suggest to others, when placing the starter into the bell housing, make sure the wires are clear from point of entry, otherwise you may insert the starter and then crank down the two starter bolts until you discover the power wire has been lodged and pinched between the seal. Another suggestion; when positioning the shroud, be beware that there are left side & right side Shroud slide in attachments found at the base of the shroud to seat the frame,.

Clear, concise video - Doing mine this morning - Will edit with results - Thanks for the lesson! (An hour later...) Finished, it went perfectly thanks to your video! - I ended up replacing the two zip-ties that hold the wiring harness to the fan shrouding as they snapped from age. The upper bolt in back was tricky to get to but did it all with a 3/8" socket wrench, 10mm deep socket and short 12mm and 14mm sockets and a screwdriver. Also took the liberty of deep-cleaning the battery terminals and connectors with the two-piece terminal cleaning tool. Most amazing thing, I didn't curse once and that's something! No blood, no broken knuckles. Thanks Todd, and thanks unknown Toyota designer.

On the Corolla there is no reason to remove the fan, you can work the starter out through the underneath of the car pretty easily. Which keeps you from accidentally hitting your radiator and going through all those extra steps and time.

Thanks for the useful video. I have had two Corollas, 2004 and 2005, both developed starter problems. First was due to the ground strap corroding off (no protection on it, no good in salt country) and second was brushes wearing out (I think). In both cases this renders the car 'dead', so knowing about the starter is important as these cars get older. cheers.

Don't know why you're taking off all the stuff you're taking off all you need to do is the two bolts that hold the actual starter in and the wires on the other side and then it slips right out the bottom of the car

Hi Todd. Without having to go thru all 403 comments, I was wondering how you diagnosed the issue to be the starter. My brother has a 2007 Corolla that is having starting issues and my guess is his starter judging by what he told me [problems starting; starting after a couple attempts; turning the key and no crank]. Thank you for the great video. Made the job easy although we went chasing other gremlins. We originally couldn't get power to the small wire to the starter. Thought it was a bad relay. Had we hit the starter w/a hammer while attempting to crank it, we would have saved 3 hours. Was able to buy a brand new starter @ Auto Zone for $160. Toyota dealer wanted $350 for a reman. BTW, the placement of the fuse panel & various relays was horrible. Toyota S/B ashamed of the piss-poor design.

Thank you! This video helped huge!!! Car has nearly 3k miles. I changed out my factory starter 2.5 years ago at Advanced Discount Auto. Starter was a little over a hundred bucks, but it had a lifetime warranty and they honored that. I think other auto parts stores do the same thing. So the fix was purely labor. Does it matter if it's a auto or manual starter cause I have a manual trans 03 Corolla. Autozone said it doesn't say if it's for a automatic or manual
