How to Replace the Suspension Spring on a Kundo 400 Day Clock 

he used the wrong fork for this clock on the suspension wire

I used a generic replacement fork. Considering the job that the fork does; its shape is not critical. The forks sold today (like the one I used) are about as universal as any clock part. I have never had a problem replacing a fork with one.

​@@NorkroClockParts I got a lot out of this video 3 years ago. In the meantime I have collected ever more examples of these clocks with far too many of the Miniatures or Midget variety. I would like a tall version as I think the weights and the ratios involved better suit this torsion style of design. However the taller older clocks are much more expensive. I like your Gustav Becker with the disc pendulum. The ball clusters are pretty but often far too loose and flimsy. My main problems have always centred on flutter. Its a weakness of these fascinating clocks and no matter what you do it waits in the shadows to jump out and bite you! I have been seeking an elegant cure. One that does not chop the original around and can be easily reversed. I am in fact testing one idea which shows promising results. I love this explanation and thank you for it. Its the weirdest thing in some ways. I have always thought it was to do with the distance you are trying to move the weight but with no more available power. As in a larger circle has a longer circumference. Might be similar to the power to weight ratio in say a car. BTW - whilst trying to be smart I noticed that you seem to have spelled "clock" as "lock" Am I right or am I right?

3/4 turn with 1/4” overswing might be all you can get out of it. If it keeps running I would leave it at that.

"Vintage" is a tricky description and designed to obfuscate reality. Quartz is modern and often plastic. They work better as a timekeeper but lack artistic merit and intrigue. Things that are too perfect ....... Yeah! I'm not sure when the plastic domes first arrived but they are much later. Glass is fragile & like fascinating art is easily spoiled. Originality is sought by some collectors who look for clues to spot deception. The cut glass domes are the way it was done. More lately the glass was cut by heat and this leaves a (safer) beaded edge. A true torsion regulated clock with brass & steel clockwork is much more likely to be of true vintage.

I see I got a new 'like' on this comment. I'm happy to report the clock is fully working and keeping decent time! I was able to remove the pin by gently punching it out.

Miniature Kundo clocks use a .0023" spring.

I suggest searching eBay for similar clocks that have sold or are selling.

Yes, the spring should be straight and flat. If it has any amount of twist it needs to be replaced.

I'd suggest that you obtain a copy of "The Horolovar 400-Day Clock Repair Guide" by Charles Terwilliger. This book has actual-size silhouette pictures of the suspension spring assemblies for these clocks.

...your best bet is to measure the square winding arbor.

You have to push or pull the pin through. I use a pair of parallel pliers: one jaw on one side of the pendulum top, the other jaw on the end of the pin. Squeeze the pliers and the pin will start moving through the hole. You can probably do the same thing with needle nose. Once you get it to move a little bit you should be able to grab it with the pliers and pull it the rest of the way out. They are in tight but you will be able to get it out.

You usually don't need to take the pin out. Just loosen the screws and the plates should separate enough for you to get the old spring out and the new one in

Battery powered clocks are TOTALLY different from wind-up clocks...and they are pretty much throw-away items.

If the name looks like Kono it's most likely a Koma. This clock can cause a lot of frustration for beginners. The miniature Koma clocks were not well designed and are hard to get running (even for professional clock repair persons). If the spring is too long the pendulum will bottom out and rub on the base of the clock.

@@NorkroClockParts ANOTHER consideration, is that if the suspension spring is the wrong length- the pendulum locking mechanism may not work!

Get yourself a copy of the '400 day clock repair guide' by Charles Terwilliger. I ended up buying my own copy because there was a waiting list for the book at the library.

I might be able to identify it for you. Can you tell me who made it and the height and width of the back plate?

@@NorkroClockParts the clock is a WALT and the plate is :42x85 mm. I want send you a movie, please write me by email. I want say you that the clock, hava a spring of 0.07mm, but is very fast. Make 8 alternations in 50 seconds, and the swing is 270 degrees. Thanks

@@NorkroClockParts Sorry, I was wrong, an oscillation is done in about 50 seconds and the complete one is about 365 degrees and not 270. Please tell me how I can perform the setup. If possible, can you send me the drawing with the measures for the correct assembly of the suspension? Thanks again.

Get yourself a copy of the book by Charles Terwilliger!!! It has all the information you need!!!
