Your timing is perfect! I've got a 2001 115hp Yamaha on my Edgewater. I'm trying to find the part number for the trim switch for a F115TXRZ . The control box is also a 704 so am I looking for a strim/tilt switch for motor or the box. I can be buzzing along and for no reason the motor comes up and by the time I notice it the prop is out of the water screaming bloody murder. Sometimes I can make it go down with the switch on the throttle put more frequently now I have to shut the motor down and run back and use the trim button on the motor. That pretty much tells me it's the switch on the throttle and not the relay that's the problem. I'm not much of a mechanic but you guys make it evident it's not rocket science (Nothing personal) and that I can get it done as well. Thanks subbed

Absolutely not rocket science. We are not professionals and no offence taken. Just trying to show people how easy it is to do things yourself. Hope you get your problem fixed and have a good time out on the water. By the way thanks for subscribing!

@@JKFishingYt Rock on boys. One of the most valuable you taught me was to NOT replace the trim/ tilt switch until plugging the new switch into the modular connections back to motor AND not disassembling the throttle box and going through all the trouble of feeding the wires through only to find out that wasn't the problem. Well I replaced it following your guidance and it was a piece of cake. Today I will disassemble the throttle and put the switch where it's supposed to be. Hopefully I can do it with no troubles. I'm glad it's not the switch and relay at the motor because I would have had to pull the boat off the morning on the season is running out.

Awesome to hear that. And waiting to disassemble the throttle box until plugging in the switch and making sure it was working and that it was the sole problem was our dads idea so you can give him the credit! 👍

@@JKFishingYt Oh No it was just messing with me. After I plugged the new switch in yesterday I didn't have any problems for the afternoon. Not even one blip on the radar. Today however I want out and on just a couple of occasions the motor mysteriously lifted itself out of the water. So the problem is not solved. In the next day or so I'll be taking the boat off it's mooring and putting it in the driveway. I'll pull the relay properly and just go direct bypassing the relay just to confirm it's not toast and plug in a new switch. I thought it was a done deal which is a little disappointing but it's still within the realm of Harry Homeowner! Going to Moosehead Lake ME in a couple weeks so I don't want to be driving north with troubles. I want to fish!

@@1plantersDid you solve the issue? Was it the relay in engine?

Thank you for the video. I believe I have the same problem on my 1999 Yamaha Outboard 60hp [ C60TLRX ] which has the exact same binnacle controls. The down switch started working intermittently, and I replaced the relay but that didn't fix the issue. The trim and tilt motor works great if you reverse the leads on the relay so the motor is ok. Could you provide a link or part number for the switch please?

Here is the link for the trim switch on Amazon, you should find the part number in the description: www.amazon.ca/dp/B0892L32KG

Just anther warning. Mine was not working or working intermittently. After starting to take it apart I decided to check the connections and sure enough one of the plug connections was corroded, once I resoldered it with a waterproof connection it was fixed.

That is what happened with us. The new connector worked fine at first but then intermittently and we noticed that the male connectors were corroded. We replaced the switch a second time with a different switch and it has been fine ever since. If it stops working we may have to cut and solder on new connectors.

This video is a prime example of DIY gone wrong. The wraps of wire around the handle are there by design to prevent strain on the wiring as the handle moves through its range of motion. Your switch has shorter wires because it’s a 703 tilt switch (side mount control). Removing the handle would have made the whole job easier as well. About the only thing you got right was removing the control from the console to allow passage of the wires. (40 year marine technician with 20 years Yamaha)

Well it’s nice to hear from someone with your experience, and this was us trying ourselves and sharing it to get feedback like this. As we said we are nowhere near experts so try to see from our point of view

@@JKFishingYt LOL. I always wonder why so called experts are watching You Tube videos on how to fix things. Must be bored.. Good video and I like seeing guys work with their kids. Tight lines brother.
