Im in the process of trying to get it running and ive been having all kinds of trouble i bypassed the fuel pump in the tank with a high pressure inline supposed to be 118psi and im having no luck gettin injectors to work i just replaced icm tested the pickup with a sensor tester and it seems fine injector wires have power one both sides when plugged in so i unplugged and tested for ground and its seems to pulse but then i noticed the timing was a tooth or so off so i fixed that and now im gonna restab the dissibutor like you show and try some more im really about to take a hammer to this thing it fires with carb cleaner but seem to not be getting fuel. What would the timing mark be on a esslinger cam gear?
@TonysFordsandMustangs
@TonysFordsandMustangs 10 месяцев назад
Hey there! I just picked up an 86 SVO and I have driven it roughly 300 miles and it quit. I took a couple of shots in the dark and missed. TFI module, no. (now I have a spare) noticed the rotor wasn't turning so I guessed dizzy roll pin no, then I figured out it had to be the timing belt. My belt torn through some teeth at the crank and the timing marks are all over the place none are close to where they need to be. I pulled the belt today and based on what I have seen in your video I can rotate the crank, line up the marks and I will be at top dead center, then rotate the cam gear get that lined up. Flip the oil pump gear to find that mark line it up to the cam gear, install the new belt, set the tensioner then get to the dizzy. Set that and I should be golden? Sorry to question what I just saw, but I am new to 2.3's. I am used to working on cars from the late 60's and 70's. I have replaced timing chains just never broke one. Thank you in advance.

@TonysFordsandMustangs 9 месяцев назад
@@2300gearjammer I had to reset the distributor. Got it running but I was a tooth off. Lined up the oil pump shaft input on the distributor and dropped in it and everything is golden. This was an almost completely original car. Meaning original timing belt, fuel filter, etc., etc. Replacing things as I get the time. Next is swapping out the rear calipers for the Mark VIII calipers. The brakes are fine but the parking brake cylinders are blown out. It's seems like the Mark VIII's had a better set up. Your video was extremely helpful as this was my first timing belt. I took my time followed the video and got it done. Thanks again.

So I’m 21 and I got a 2300 stuffed in a Miata and I was watching your videos and I can tell you know what you’re doing I’m learning every step of the way. I love these motors. Mine is .30 over with wiseco pistons, manly I beam rods, port and polished head, over sized valves, not sure what size cam. Had a Holley 600cfm converted to blow through. Running 20lbs have went much past that but I would trust it past that. Was kinda curious on what kinda boost you running on those videos of the mustang? My car is street driven. Also what cam are you running? I wanna swap to a better one.
@2300gearjammer

That sounds like a killer ride. At 20psi that should be an absolute rocket. At it's peak I had a goal to run 9.99999 at 20psi but I couldn't get it done. I may chase that a little more in '22. My cam is a boport stage 4 and we did Hot Rod Drag Week with it, it's not daily driver friendly but it's driveable. Haha

@2300gearjammer
@2300gearjammer 2 года назад
I havent done the flat top route yet but we will test that out on the pinto. The mustang runs VP racing Q16 and timing 23-24* in boost. That fuel helps a bunch but I've never worked out timing to the point to see where the edge is.

I’m wondering if you can help me with my 94 2.3 ranger. I need to know if my valve seat are bad. Cylinder one seems to be weak. If I unplug injectors: cyl one unplugged, the idle doesn’t change. But the guy I jus bought it from said he just had the head rebuilt. I’ve replaced every sensor except icm crank sensor. It will drive great for less than a block then choke up real bad. Rough idle and want to die from a stop and cruising it vibrates a lot. No power regardless. Starting to think it’s ecm or valve seats 🫠
@2300gearjammer
@2300gearjammer 2 года назад
Ecm is extremely rare so put that one down the list. The way to diagnose that though is to do a cylinder leakage test and put compressed air in each cylinder then see where is leaks out. I've had a lot of busted valve seats over the years.

Aux shaft only matters if it has a distributor.

Hey what up buddy I just did my timing belt following your video? Just curiosity what would happened if I am a tooth off when I’m doing the dip stick method my tabs were broken I lined everything up as the video shows car turned on.

Did you pull and reinstall the distributor?
@bryantmoore5606
@bryantmoore5606 11 месяцев назад
Followed this video. The timing was completely off. With the timing using the “string method” the rotor was never firing on the correct cylinders. Adjusted the rotor and still could not get it to work. Ended up going old school. Go to TDC for 1 and set the rotor to that cylinder. Maybe we did some thing wrong but the cam gear timing tab and crank shaft timing tab are the only things I see that need to be timed together. Once those are timed the rotor can be aligned accordingly to its correct cylinder. I would like some feed back to see if you have come across this. Engine runs fantastic but not from the information from this video

It might be impossible to get it wrong if you follow this vid step by step.

@@2300gearjammer we watched it a million times. I feel we followed it. There’s a few things that are different between your engine and mine but other than that it’s perfect. The only thing I could think is someone replace the distributor and installed it incorrectly maybe?

@@bryantmoore5606 you got it. That's why I included resetting the distributor, they are all off from the next if you leave the distributor in place it means the last person just stuck it in place and rotated it around to fix it. I prefer to have them all exactly the same.

I mean the auxiliary shaft. I bought a new esslinger shaft and was trying to reference installation videos. Is it OK to run the billet shaft as opposed to stock one?
@2300gearjammer
@2300gearjammer 2 года назад
Yeah The billet shaft is way better just being brand new. My mustang engines run the billet shaft and bronze gear.

Hi, I have a Mazda B2300 - same as a Ford Ranger I'm told but it doesn't use a distributor. Ever since I bought it a few years ago, it has always been hard to start. To me it feels like the ignition timing is retarded and it's very under-powered. I've been told there is no adjustment possible to the ignition timing. I've replaced plugs, wires, coil packs etc etc with no improvement except it runs smooth once started. How do I set the ignition timing and where is the ignition timing pickup? And can this under-power be compensated by moving the cam shaft timing belt one belt cog one way or the other? Any help would sure be appreciated. Can the engine be converted to a standard distributor drive or after-market ignition control module allowing timing adjustments? Thank you.
@2300gearjammer
@2300gearjammer 2 года назад
Correct on the fact timing is not adjustable. You could run the PIMP ecu like I do but that's pretty extreme if you don't have many engine mods. You can check the ignition timing with a light just the same as the distributor style ignition. Timing belt off a tooth could certainly cause issue but you would greatly notice it elsewhere. For this kind of issue you would need to work the a diagnostic pinpoint test for cold start. You might find a coolant temp sensor way out of range or a MAF causing that issue.
