Greetings from a beautiful village that is located in the north of Iran where near to Caspian sea, good job buddy, your work and endeavor is admirable and respectable ,I forgot to introduce myself,I'm a truck driver
One mechanic showed me that my torque rods need to be replaced ( he estimated $800+labour). I said thank you so much for your advise ☺️ I got them from Turkey for $120 each shipping included, took me half an hour-hour😁 $240 and an hour of my time vs close to $1k is a big difference.
good video. I was goin to replace mine today but the one of the bolt is completely rusted and even milwaukee m18 with high out put battery won’t take it out, i guess i will have to cut it. what do you mean ?
Hi I am trying to loosen the bolt on it but its completely seized. Two bolts are coming off but the other 2 are not as bolt is seized. I used a impact and warmed it up but I cannot loosen it.
If you have a jack that can grab both sides of the frame from the rear and jack up on it (I know it’s not ideal to pick up on the frame and stretch the air bags ) BUT, when you do that when the nuts are loose the torque arm will legit slide right down the bolts and you can nearly 90% of the time just pull the passenger side off that way and the driver just comes off with a pry bar after the bolts are loosened
About how many miles does it take for bushing to get worn down or does it depend how you drive? I have a new truck with 86k miles and my bushings are out of place
Great video, i have a question (i'm an apprentice learning the trade) would another name for the torque rod above the diff be called the transverse rod? and will it be the caused of a suspension thump when the truck accerlerate?
When theses go bad I get a shake that comes and go's every 5 seconds and if you let it go it starts destroying my tires these rods last about 300k miles. What about yours?
If your truck was running straight before replacing the Torque rods and where not rubbing on the bracket i think its not necessary to do an alignment, but if you want to make sure you can have it checked, thank you for watching
A drop or two of engine oil on the bolt threads should also do, aside from cleaning the bolt threads if they are dirty. I like using a small oil can with a flexible spout that I bought from Harbor Freight. It makes it easy to apply oil to bolt threads, especially on wheel studs.
New torque rods require a offset meassurement along with rear alignment. This may be how to replace them but if this all you do, your tires wont last a year.
If you torque the nuts and bolts to the correct torque spec, they can be reused. Overtorquing can damage the threads of the bolt or nut or make them break next time you remove them. You also want to always lubricate bolt threads with 1 or 2 drops of engine oil before installing them. If the bolt threads are rusted or dirty, you can clean them with a set of “tap and die” and cutting oil. Then there are several tips out there to prevent nuts and bolts from breaking while removing them. Applying heat and turning the nut slowly back and forth until the threads move smoothly are two of my favorite methods. 136 ft lbs for torque rods on the Freightliner Cascadia.
Also check the length of both torque rods at the dealer parts. I once was given two different torque rods that looked the same, but were off by half an inch.
Yeah, some shops have minimum charges of half an hour or an hour. Torque rods and shocks are definitely some easy fixes that an owner operator can handle.
The correct terminology for this type of set up, is originally called a Panhard rod. But it might soon be forgotten. It’s the cheap version of the Watt link. The watt link keeps the axle completely centered.
