There are variance from years and models so you will need the 8th vin when replacing these valve cover gasket to make sure it's the right part. If your pt cruiser has the egr then there will be 2 bolts that need removed instead of the one 13mm seen in this video, also be careful not to bend or damage the tube but it shouldn't be in the way . This will fix the most common cause of oil leakage around the cylinder head . Thanks for watching

Great video ! Thank you ! Alot of videos just show removal and/or no steps or specifics ...... I'm automotively inclined, but have to be shown each step, the right way, once, then I'm good to go to do it over + over if needed. If I'm not shown, I doubt my ability + put off doing it all together, in fear of f in it up. 🥺 Thank you so much ! I Really appreciate it ! I will be doing this, + a few other things on my 06 + my mom's 01 shortly thanks to you. 👍👍👍😁 Have a good one.

Thank you for the kind words I appreciate it. It's definitely a good feeling to fix something yourself and save a lot of money. These valve cover gaskets are notorious for leaks down the engine and all in the spark plugs . It's a relatively inexpensive part to fix but it makes a huge difference. Thank you for watching and best of luck on your project .

Very good vid. Valve cover: some have 8 bolts, some have 9. ? Think about that before you start. I ordered both at the parts house. Take back the one you don't use.

This was very helpful for me. I labelled everything as I disconnected it as I had not done this before. I also did cover the intake holes with a rag. Thanks again for taking the time to make this video, appreciated. Cheers ! (2005 PT Cruiser 2.4L non-turbo).

That's what I always did , labeled everything . It's like half the job , but nice to have the comfort of knowing a day a week month you'll get everything back exactly right . I know mine was leaking like a siv all over back of my exhaust and such , sure was glad to get it fixed. But great job doing this yourself. Thanks for watching and the kind words

+Baxrok2 best of luck on it . It's hard to get motivated with this heat sometimes . I know I'm more of a winter person myself . I don't mind taking stuff back apart to do a project it's always easier the second time and adds more experience. Only thing left on this project now is the ac . I don't really know what's wrong with it but the car has alot of miles so I will just be taking a compressor off one at the salvage yard the next 50 percent off sale. Figure I'll just replace the lines the ac drier and all. Thanks again for watching

I noticed oil around the spark plug boots, but the spark plug tips are dry. What could possibly where the oil came from??
@s33therfan

It is leaking from the spark plug well seals , which come with the valve cover gasket set . Thanks for watching.

1 more questions, the car is not reading the O2 sensor and the Cat. I have issues with this, what can you recommend to pass smog? It would be very helpful.
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 3 года назад
You might start with the O2 sensor because it is the cheaper part. If it still throws a code you may have to replace the catalyst or have it rebuilt. Great question and thank you for watching.

Having problems getting my power steering reservoir off bolt are stuck good I tried degreaser but it won't buge. Any pointer?
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 лет назад
+Thompsons JR V. Oche Use alot of wd 40 or pb blaster and let it soak a while . Spray the threads and all bolts real good. It goes through that timing mount cover so sometimes they really stick and rust. If it hasn't been messed with it will take a breaker bar or cheater pipe to break them loose. Definitely use a 6 sided 13mm and try to keep it straight so they don't strip . I know my preference because of the limited room on those pt is a small 3/8 ratchet and a 8 inch 3/4 cheater bar , seems to work out the best because there's hardly room in alot of places for leverage and it fits in those hard to get to spots real nice . Hope this helps and thanks for watching
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 лет назад
+Thompsons JR V. Oche It was late when I first read this , I just realized you were talking about the reservoir not the pump. Yeah those 2 short bolts go into the cylinder head , into that bracket and are hard to see. They should break loose with a cheater bar as it's only going into aluminum. Thanks again
@timmy3590
@timmy3590 6 лет назад
Still won't come off.
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 лет назад
+Thompsons JR V. Oche some of the worse I've taken my heavy shot filled rubber mallet or small sledge and hit my ratchet or breaker bar . Definitely wear gloves , if that doesn't get them they are really not moving . It's easy to get turned around when removing bolts and go the wrong way and actually tighten I've done it myself , other than that I can't think of anything else .

I did my valve cover gasket when I did the timing belt but I can't remember if I replaced the grommets. I have to add a half quart of oil every 1500 miles. When I did spark plugs 10k miles ago, there was oil on them. I'm thinking about redoing the valve covers to make sure everything's right.
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 лет назад
Yes those spark plug seals are really the most important , pretty much any used vehicle will have oil down there if they haven't been changed . I doubt that's where all your oil is going but I can tell you some key areas . The cam seals will leak quite a bit , the crank seal will also leak alot. When I did my timing belt I replaced the cam seals but didn't do the crank seal and now I'm regretting it . That's a tremendous amount of work for one little seal but I'm going to have to tackle mine because it's losing some oil. The oil pan also is a good spot to leak mines been replaced new . But like I said mines losing a substantial amount just from the crank seal so I will plan that project for the near future . If a little bit of oil gets down in the cylinder when you pull out the plugs to clean them don't worry about it , it won't hurt a thing unless it's alot of oil. Best of luck on it and thanks for watching
@AGreedyTree
@AGreedyTree 6 лет назад
s33therfan The outside of the engine is dry but there is a bit of residue on the oil pump around the crankshaft. I never did the crank or cam seals so that might also be my problem. I always tell people oil leaks don't kill the engine, the lack of oil does. I guess ill have to keep an eye on the timing belt because oil eats rubber. The engine runs great though. It has 130,000 miles and it's never had a check engine light. I replaced all the fluids and spark plugs when I got it at 43,000 miles and followed the maintenance schedule in the owner's manual.
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 лет назад
Same with mine it runs great and it's over 200k , I just keep a close check on the oil. It's had its share of bugs to be worked out but nothing major . Over all its been a really good reliable car. I really hate oil leaks though , I know it pays to get decent seals . I've replaced with some lesser known brands and they didn't hold up no time. Thanks again

No one seems to want to show a video changing the turbo model valve cover gasket. Trust me its much harder and finding the proper gasket to fit the 9 bolt valve cover is next to imposible to find.

How do you clean the valve cover?
@LocdWolf
@LocdWolf 2 года назад
Engine degreaser, mineral spirits, gasoline, ideally something that doesn't leave a residue or lint Edit: to be clear, I meant separately those are some options, you don't need to use all three
