Pre stretching the cable is the most underrated part of when you first install new wire, or first install a winch. Every time I install a winch, first thing I do is pull it out, leaving 3 wraps on the drum, and with some fairly decent tension on the line, re wrap the cable/line.

Great video Brian, I also watched your videos on how important it is to stretch your new Synthetic rope. I just had a couple questions 1) can I park my jeep on a up hill, and use it as a anchor to pull my Maverick trail up to it, stretching my winch rope? and should I keep my SXS in neutral while I’m winching it up to my jeep and stretching the line at the same time to my jeep. 2nd question if I use my SXS to winch out a large rock or another SXS out a ditch again, should I keep my SXS in neutral, or maybe in park? while winching the rock out or the vehicle out, I don’t want to hurt the transmission. Thanks 🙏🏼 again Brian, as you can see I’m new to all this, I think you are one of the best with your knowledge and experience. God Bless.

Hey Tedd, welcome to the off road world buddy! It can definitely be overwhelming with all the info out there. If you did not see this video we did on stretching your winch cable be sure to check it out, WINCH BREAK IN | THIS IS A MUST BEFORE YOU HIT THE TRAILS... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fV15ZPgOzSY.html I used my Jeep to do exactly what you are asking about. I left my RMAX in neutral while stretching the wire rope. As far as your second question, if you’re using your machine to winch anyone or any objects out, I would recommend you stay in your vehicle with your foot on the brake and your tranny in neutral so you don’t put a bunch of torque on your tranny in park. You could also us an accessory kit to anchor the back of your machine to a tree or another vehicle if your machine starts sliding toward what your winching out. Thank you for watching and for asking great questions! Keep in touch my friend and don’t hesitate to hit me up with any questions you may have… 👍🏼

@@FishersOffRoad Max I ask a question? This time really to your vid 🤣 Some synthetic ropes do come with a sleeve to protect the first lines of rope on the drum against friction-burning. Is this a problem to bigger/higher loads or is this a general problem to sinthetic ropes? I'd have a 3to Landcruiser on the cable and would like to avoid that problem.

Love the axon. Dont see any need for metal attachments on atv/utv applications. Should be all soft shackles and straps.

@FishersOffRoad

No, you can do it while it’s on your machine. I just did it on the bench, so it was easier to see the install.

Newbie. I have apparently a WARN 2.5ci ATV Winch on my Kawasaki Brute Force 650 (KVF650E6F). I would like to replace the current cable wire. I see ton's of options on amazon that are NON Warn. Any recommendations would be appreciated for the Rope or a replacement winch with rope installed

So, how much tension when spooling the rope onto the winch. I've got about 20 feet left that doesn't fit on the spool. Not looking forward to splicing a new eye.

Holy cow that little "puck" is what holds the rope in? sheeesh

Can I upgrade the length of the rope from say a 50' to a 95' ? Right now I have a 50' on my Warn Winch.
@FishersOffRoad
@FishersOffRoad Год назад
I would stick with the 50’ that Warn recommends. Adding more rope will change everything as far as gearing and if you should happen to stack to one side or the other you’ll cause major damage to the winch. Warn sells a 50’ extension rope in case you need more during your recovery.
@marcusd6096
@marcusd6096 Год назад
@@FishersOffRoad Ahhh so stick with the 50'; and if I need the rope longer, just use the extension for that moment. Ok that makes sense... Thanks for the reply, because I was back and forth about buying a longer rope , yet the temporary extension makes more sense 👍
@davidlesley1328

I am going to guess, since a I haven’t bought rope yet, that the black piece shown initially is a tube that the rope is then inserted into, right?
@FishersOffRoad
@FishersOffRoad 7 месяцев назад
Yes, it’s a sleeve protector for the rope. In case you’re winching over anything abrasive you put the sleeve on it and the rope slides through it and protects your rope from abrasions.

I just had a synthetic line melt and literally destroy itself after only using the winch one time .. I’m going to steel cable.. I realize I’m a minority but if the synthetic line isn’t anymore durable than that I don’t want it ..
@FishersOffRoad

That’s very odd, I’ve been using synthetic ever since it came out and have never had that happen. 🤔

Winch was at about half capacity if that on straight line pull .. had to move about 3 times to get him off the sand in the dirt so he could move under his own power .. last time I went to pull the rope out out I noticed it was extremely hot even so it was getting uncomfortable with gloves on.. then I noticed what looked like flat melted spots on the line .. and. I did respool it under load when I got it .. but yeah my old winch had synthetic line but it never behaved like this

Could have left the rollers on
@FishersOffRoad
@FishersOffRoad 4 месяца назад
As long as the rollers are new, you can’t use rollers that were used for a wire rope or the burs will ruin it. Or you can sand the rollers really good to get them smooth.
