I watched 3 videos on this topic, and yours was clearly the best. I had a quote from a garage for $2100-$2500 to do this work, as they said the Toyota directions were to remove the engine. I am about to re-watch your video before attempting, but I am hopeful I will save quite a bit of money thanks to you. Thank you!
thanks for the video, I work at a honda dealership and am not very familiar with other makes although we do work on them time to time. Pro demand says to pull the engine, ha!
the job is is the same on all of these toyota 3.5 liter engines including yours but the pump for your sienna is slightly different even though the job is the same, this is for this engine code: 3.5L 2GRFE
hey J Shah thanks for your comment that helps me a lot, I used carquest premium water pump, I did not replace the thermostat they had recently replaced it.
How did you know to change your water pump? I'm starting to hear a little bit of noise when I start up my van and I noticed the coolant level is now a bit low but haven't seen leaking I'm thinking my water pump is the culprit.
take a look at the pulley you will see it how it wabbles acompany by the noise like raca raca if the water p is the culprit but it doesn't always leak coolant
Well though after watching your video I thought I was quite capable of this job their were several tools I would have needed to purchase. Also it looked quite challenging so I scheduled it at the local shop. They took my car all day then returned it said they could not do it. It was a bigger job then they expected they would either need to remove the intake or the exhaust manifold to change my water pump? They said both? and that they didn't want to do it. So I got ahold of my brother he is a mechanic and a professional pit crew worker he said he was looking to make a road trip. He drove 3 hours with all tools needed to do the job. He had it done in two hours . Your video was helpful it let me know it was not an impossible hard job. Brother did mine without putting my sienna on jack stands. He was able to leave wheel and tire on and van on the ground he got under oil pan with his low profile floor jack. Thanks much your information was honest straightforward and very informative. So I had to take the time out after the job to tell you I appreciate you making this video.
yes the replacement procedure is the same, the water pump has a very small difference in the gear where the pulley goes compare to 2016 and that is all, almost nothing but procedure does not change , hope this helps.
At 21:00 he explains how if you're not careful with o-ring it will come out. Then as he is installing the tube, the oring is gone. Hahaha. Sorry i had to point that out. But otherwise a very good video. Good job.
sir the o ring did not come off, see when the reflect of the entire screen changes from brighter to a little foggy then is when the o ring gives the impression that it is not there but in fact it only looks thinner or smaller in diameter but you still can see it, if you want to you can go back n see when the sun light changes the screen, I only do the jobs once. thanks for visiting this channel.
it is not necessary to replace timing chain when replacing the water pump but you should replace the thermostat, in this video I did not replace thermostat because it had been recently replaced
no is not necessary because water p is separated from timing chain unless you want to but not necessary and a part from that these vans are not know for timing chain failure but for water p, thermostat yes you should replace it. again thanks for coming to my channel.
Also, if you don’t mind do you know what’s originally on the water pump bolt threads? I saw the threads had something on them like silicone or anti-seize. Appreciate the help.
@@ooscgt that is a bit of silicon on the bolts instead of threadlocker that will help to keep the bolts in place n it will be easy to remove them in the future
sanamagahn gad demit! lmfao. this job whooped me. i hav a 09 sienna awd. i didnt jak up the engine, stil was a pain to do. i was fighting wit the pulley n the braket. 9hrs in stil ain dun. stil hav to do coolant drain n flush tonite
@@JM-AUTO can u help me? why do i always hav to top up my radiator? when i get home from work n check the radiator the coolant is always low and i hav to top it up everytime. i replaced the radiator cap. no diference. did i not install the water pump correctly?
I am replacing the water pump in my wifes sienna. Its at 89,000 miles and the pully sheered completely off of the spindle. How long did this repair take? I am not a mechanic so I dont know how long to expect it to take me.
I'm stuck, I lifted the engine at max and can't get enough clearance to get that bracket out. Top of intake manifold is touching the top firewall. What am I doing wrong?
@@elvis19kilo ok you have to put the bracket with the long bolt already inserted in the hole and move or either unbolt the A/C pipes so it gives you more options, also at the moment of putting the bracket get it to to the rear toward the firewall and then toward the front and let the bolt fall out of the bracket so it goes between the A/C pipes and the is when you put the bracket in place. hope this help. let me know any thing.
thans for commenting in my channel, you need to loose or remove the nuts of the mount to lift up the engine other wise you dont have access to water pump, and God bless you and your family as well.
hi James thanks for your comment, normally on these siennas the pulley is lose and making noise but does not all ways leak anti-freeze look at the water pump pulley when engine ir running in park and see if it is lose.if you have a loud noise coming from that area most likely it is the water p
Hi. HOW TIGHT DO THE BOLTS ON THE WATER PUMP SHOULD BE? the gasket is metal. Did you tight them very hard? Thanks también pusiste sellador en la rosca de cada tornillo será necesario? Gracias
Hi,want to replace thermostat in my 2017 highlander do I need to jack up the engine for this .If I open upper engine mount only do I need a jack to support? To remove upper engine mount vehicle should be parked on flat surface ? Uphill or downhill create issue? Thank you.
hi, and welcome to my channel, you can remove any mount on top of the engine n nothing happens because the one beneath is the one the supports the engine n there is no need to jackup the engine for that, now, space is very narrow even to replace the thermostat but you can try, because when you jackup the engine from the oil pan then the engine opens from the top so you have more space but also unbolt the mount in the front of the engine so you dont brake any thing when you are jucking up the engine. stay bless.
