I used to think about that but after seeing how much dealerships actually charge people for the easiest jobs I have no problem with DIY automotive maintenance.
You're AMAZING! My dealer wanted to charge me over $120 to change the cabin filter, all that money for parts and labor! Fuck those parasites! I watched your video, ordered the filter for $10 online, and it literally took me seconds to change the filter! Took me longer to find the pliers in my tool box than changing the actual filter! You're a godsend!
That's amazing. Just like my last shop visit. They put in the exact same filter that came out, then charged me for it. I marked the old filter on the backside, in case they tried this. Not using that shop again.
David, thank you for the guidance...short, simple, and to the point! I remembered the cabin air filter in my 2015 Colorado is behind the glove box, but forgot how to get to it. Thanks!
I have a 2020 ZR2 Bison diesel and found your video to be really helpful. One thing, it appears that for 2020 (and maybe later) you know longer have to disconnect the dampener as it isn't there! made the job really easy. Now the hardest part is removing the hinge pins. I just pushed on them with my fingers and once there was a neck on the other side I used a key as a lever and the pin came right out. Dealer take my money! Its been almost a year since I bought the truck so I asked them to replace the air filter while they were doing the oil change. The ignored that opportunity to rip me off and claimed to have checked it and it was good to go. When I removed it today it had a line of dust in it. Anyway, I bought a charcoal filter from Amazon, Spearhead Premium Breathe Easy Cabin Filter, Up to 25% Longer Life w/Activated Carbon (BE-966). Thanks again!
The dealership wanted $50 to change the cabin air filter on my 2018 Canyon. I went to Autozone and got a filter for $20 and changed it myself. Very easy.
I had to look this sht up to find the bloody air filter. Nothing in the owners manual shows you or tells you how to. I couldn't find the fkn thing before watching this ...thx mate.👍
Bro I have a 2015 Chevy Colorado z71. The tranny is all kind of clunky lately. I so appreciate these two differential videos. Awesome videos. Easy to hear you. Good lighting. All around great job. Thanks a million.
Gotta say I love the format and view you have for the viewer. Coming from a Toyota and Honda this is definitely some little extra steps than I'm used to.
Thanks! Helpful video! I used this to replace the filter on my 2021 Colorado. The only difference is that on the '21, there is no wire to disconnect. Just pop out hinge pins and maneuver glove box out. Nice video :)
THANKS!!! Just returned from my local GMC dealer who wanted to charge $119 for a cabin air filter installed. Went to Amazon and found a quality filter (Hepa with charcoal) for $13 delivered to my home. You showed how easy this is. How do dealers sleep at night???
A tip for removing those pins, mine didn't budge and didn't wanna break them, I used a bushing with a hole that barely fit over the head of the pin, shoved it on and it compresses the pin heads making it way easier. Maybe overkill, but mine were not budging, I use the bushing trick on all of those push in plastic panel and body part pins that always break when removing.
Noticing like a burnt dust smell now when i start my truck and first take off , thinking this may be the cause since it hasn't been changed since i got the truck , nice video 👍🏻
Thanks for the informational video! It was thorough and your instructions were simple. I had a bit of trouble releasing the damper on mine but it’s a 2018.
2018 Canyon, I was able to access the filter without disconnecting the damper, just the hinge pins.Very useful video, thanks for the detailed information
I have a 2017 Colorado I just went to change my cabin filter and my arrows were pointing the opposite of yours and it’s the same filter I checked the part number. But I just replaced it and put it the way you have yours. Hope whoever did that didn’t mess something up down the line.
It’s ok. It’s more a reference for when you are checking the filter and reinstalling the same one. But if you flip it over while it’s been used it will blow all the dust on the filter into the hvac system. But if you swapped in a new filter it will start to gather dust on the one side and be ok. Just don’t change the direction of the arrows on a used filter. That’s bad
@@underscr0e yep doesn't really matter if you are putting in a fresh filter. Just don't flip it around if you're checking it, otherwise you'll send all the dust in the filter into the cab.
Wondering why you're changing the filter already? Thought that was a 25,000 mile item. Thanks for making the video, will make it much easier when it's time for mine to be changed!
@@fondupot @Fondupot's Garage I just bought 6 spark plugs to do that job on my husbands truck. I didn't see a video on that, did you make one? I saw your video on the throttle body you got. I did call Soler Performance, I think I'm going to end up getting the throttle body to install on my Escalade. I'd put it in his Colorado but he's going to sell it in the next few months. Thanks for that video too.
@@Cocora22 I havent made a video on spark plugs yet. Haven't had to do it yet. I've heard it isn't the easiest project....good luck with it. You'll like the TB in your Escalade! Thanks for watching!
That was easy enough... It was me that said on ColoradoFans... Need a Video... Hint... Hint... thanks for making. On m 2007 Chevy HHR you open the Door, and looking to the rear you can change it. They clearly blocked it on the Colorado.
Very helpful. Doesn’t really show the part where you remove the plastics pins, which was the hardest part for me. Suggest using a flathead screwdriver to gently pry underneath the plastic screw head to remove. Otherwise, pretty simple.
In complete 100% honesty, it shouldn't really matter. But, if you open up the filter box after 1 year, and remove the filter, and decide to keep using the same filter, its very important to put it back in the same way. Otherwise, whatever debris was accumulated on the one side, will now get blown into the system. Hopefully you just installed a new filter and didn't flip the existing filter around. Thanks for watching!
@@fondupot Thanks, I was wondering about the that. And yes, I replaced the filter with a new one. That was the first time it had been changed (70k miles and 4 years later) and it was filthy!
Fyi you dont have to remove the glove box, you can just lower it down by squeezing it to get it past the tabs that hold it up, after removing the dampener cord.
looks almost exactly the same filter and process as a my 2012 Cruze, Which the dealer wanted $125 to change. I got a higher quality filter from Adv Auto for about 30 and did it myself.
How often should I change the cabin filter on my Colorado z71 2018? ALSO....I PRESSURED WASHED THE ENGINE (BIG MISTAKE) AND NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND HAVE TROUBLE STARTING IT! A FRIEND TOLD ME MORE THAN LIKELY IS THE AIR FLOW SENSOR OR (MAP) OR (MAS) HE SAID TO TAKE IT OFF AND SPRAY BRAKE CLEANER OR AIR FLOW SPRAY CLEANER LET IT DRY OUT GOOD AND PUT IT BACK ON...CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOULD TURN OFF...HOPE IS NOTHING ELSE MORE SERIOUS 🤞 THANKS FOR THE TUTORIAL...APPRECIATED IT 👍 GREETINGS FROM GUATEMALA....MANUEL***🙋♂️
Hi, thank you for the Video., my Colorado 2018 Thailand version, left hand drive does not have both side damping cable, and it impossible to remove the glove box pins. Please instruct further to the case. Thank you
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately I cannot help you. I am not familiar with that Thailand version. It should be similar though. Are the pins different on the bottom?
Great video and very helpful. I'm trying to get a clear picture of how to disconnect the infotainment/Intellilink connection and re-seat it back in its port. I've seen a couple other videos that show the removal of a glove box to get to this connection (blue cord and plug). Unfortunately, they aren't using a GMC Canyon so I'm not sure the location of this connection exists in the same place as their examples (Silverado, Tahoe, etc.). When I remove the glove box on a 2017 Canyon, do you know if I will have immediate access to this connection? The reason I ask is because you're familiar with the removal of the glove box so I thought you might know.
Thanks for watching. I can’t say that I remember what’s behind the glove box. But I know you can also pop the bezel off the infotainment and then remove the screws that hold in the screen. Then you can remove the screen. And get access the backside of it.
Yes. It was installed backwards. You can tell the airflow of the system by looking at the dirty side of the filter. In this case the dirty side of the filter is on top. That means the air is flowing downwards. So you want the arrows to point down.
Isaac Aleman Thanks! Do you mean the engine air filter? I don’t have a video specific for that yet. But check my channel for the “engine cover removal” video. It shows you a little bit.
I change all my cabin filters once a season. Figure with all the dried salt, pollen and other debris, who wants to breath that every day? It is cheap. Figure in the house they recommend every 3 months.
I have a 2013 Colorado LTZ Duramax built by GM Rayong Thailand plant. There is no removable cover above the ac fan behind the glove box. Can I cut out the panel above the fan to install a new cabin filter?
Allan, you probably could. I have no experience though. Try this video out, it may help you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TeFNqNB85h4.html
I usually use a large flat blade screw driver to push on the pins to get them started. Then you can grab them with a needle nose plier and pull them out the rest of the way.
Lmao watching this in the dealership after they asked me. They recommend doing this once a YEAR?? That's a bit overkill isn't it? Anyways, thanks a ton!
Depends on where you live and drive. I always think once a year is plenty, but whenever I get in there it's always filthy. Lots of pollen and dust, lots of dirt roads and dusty work sites.
@@fondupot the dealer said its in the frame you cant see it. Mine is clogged water is going all on my passenger floor board sounds like water slushing especially when you turn
My pins in the hinges are difficult to push out. The video doesn't show you removing them. I tried squeezing the ends together with the needle-nose plier and then push them out, but it won't remove. What's wrong
