You got this! You can save anywhere from $7,000 to $10,000 replacing your furnace and AC on your own. It's not rocket science. Getting your hands on the equipment can be tricky and you might need someone to come to braze in the AC line, but you can do 90% of this on your own.

Did the exact same thing 30 years ago. Removed old unit, Installed new and had someone charge lines. Wasn't rocket science then and isn't now. Good job.

I'm in the camp of keeping the old r22 system and maintaining it from time to time with cheap take-off parts the licenced HVAC techs sell on ebay they get for free by removing customers old perfectly fine systems because spending $10 grand is "efficient". Lol. Video is very well done!

I was very excited as a HVACR Engineer to actually watch a DO IT YOURSELF video for the entertainment value. Once you said you involved an HVAC tech I lost interest but great job my man. We need to eventually see a true do it yourself video on a complete install. I would be mind blown if someone actually did the removal and install correctly Viewers really need to understand how intricate and detailed a proper install is. Introduction of any oxygen / contaminants etc into your system will destroy your system so please do not try this at home. There is very little wiggle room with refrigeration compressors, not to mention air flow , static pressure , using the proper Braze rods and heat protection compounds, sweeping with Nitrogen while brazing, additional refrigerant needs for longer line set based off not only size of line set but length as well, a proper P trap, furnace adjustments , proper vacuum to 500 Microns or less, decay test, potential oil contamination in old copper line set ( R - 22 uses Mineral oil and New 410A uses POE, mixing the two past a very minimal percentage is bad ) making sure you have the proper filter dryer in the proper location, importance of deburring your line set is so much more important than in traditional plumbing, power supply etc . I Can go on for a long time but you get the point. Call the pros as this simply isn’t a do it yourself job

Yeah the HVAC guy wasn't flowing nitrogen. I would bet close to 99% of residential guys don't flow nitrogen while brazing.
@erichorton1440
@erichorton1440 4 месяца назад
You didn't use nitrogen when you brazed. You just introduced cupric oxide into the system. It's going to mix with the oil and gum up your txv/fixed orifice. You'll be calling a service tech within a couple of years. Not only that, did you vacuum the system to 500 microns before dropping charge? Also, the flu exhaust hits the dew point, producing water, which then drips back into the furnace. It won't rust it out.... wow. It has a drain for that. That's why you slop the flu towards the furnace. You diy guys really know how to mess up an install.

U know what the difference is between the guy in the video and u..,.he probably doesn’t have any other choice but to DIY simply because of arrogant pos like urself….im sure u have discriminated Syed against plenty of people and refused to even work on someone’s machine because “the home owner touched it “ meaning they maintained their own property and then in the very next sentence would b!tch about how homeowners never clean their machines or maintain them….do u know how god damned hard it is to find any “pro” that isn’t a complete arrogant pos that lies and refuses to be honest with home owners….charging a fortune for a capacitor swap out or saying it’s shot and needs replaced after 5 years just to get another new install instead of maintaining….never honor warranty maintenance that’s for sure! I have yet to hear of an hvac guy actually showing up to a warranty check up that the manufacturers recommend be kept but nope! And then to complain about home owners as if they’re not who keep ur wallet overly inflated! Most of what makes it difficult is the industry regulations meaning I can’t run out to the hardware store and buy a fitting that’s compatible with hvac…BUT! Anyone can go online and order the bs cuz u don’t need to be licensed in order to purchase it..,I had a pos hvac guy try telling me that r290 wasn’t just propane that’s been around for eons! Lmao…I was told that by a retired hvac guy! 🤣 as he was basically calling us all dumb for not knowing that! Again…another hypocrite! U complain about diyers but then complain cuz home owners don’t know anything about it…make up ur effing mind and lose the ego…I don sent do u any good! More harmful than anything…

Lucky for me, there is an online Goodman dealer who has a warehouse about 20 miles away. I bought all of my equipment right before the pandemic and all of the price increases. I use to work as an HVACR contractor so installation wasn’t a problem. I saved about $5000. That fresh air vent location makes me nervous if you get any snow, which will block the vent. In the south, almost nobody installs high efficiency furnaces because it doesn’t get cold enough to justify the added expense.

Any person servicing, installing or disposing of stationary appliances (except the disposal of small appliances) must be a section 608 certified technician. Didn’t see nitrogen flowing while brazing, didn’t see vacuum, didn’t see gas pressure checked/adjusted (no they do not come preset from factory), and from my understanding from your responses you are not epa certified and every second of you disconnecting the old system was illegal. Not trying to hate but I am an hvac technician and I would not recommend this at all. At least invest in the proper tools and follow proper guidelines on installing equipment before you “influence” someone to do the same thing and they get killed. You did a good job for someone not experienced in the trade. Better than I could have first starting out

@@juan2049 One of my customers self installed a Daikin mini split bought online. 3 years later, the main board fried. Cost to repair without warranty was $1500 so he bought another complete set for about $1800 that I installed for $450. He now will have warranty on the system. If he’d paid me to install the first, his cost to repair the faulty board would have about $450. Do the math. Do you want to spend $3500-4000 every 3 or so years to replace self installed systems, or do you want to actually have a system installed by a professional with a warranty? In the long run, installing without a warranty is not saving any money.

Why did you edit out the part where you released the refrigerant as you cut the suction line. I guessing you didn’t know that the suction line service port isn’t a one way valve. What you should have done was during the pump down as the compressor is energized close the suction line It’s probably better that you didn’t give the EPA the video evidence to fine you the 36k for releasing the refrigerant

All these people saying that DIYers should not do their own work on their own HVAC make me laugh. 1 I am not paying thousands of dollars for someone else to do the job that I know how to do. 2 it is not that hard to do, a few wires, gas line, and ductwork. Of course there are the refrigerant lines which you can have someone else do for you if that part is not your thing, but even that isn't hard.

But what makes me disgusted are the HVAC companies overcharging homeowners for repairs that not extremely prices ex: replacement of a capacitor $400 plus when part cost less than $50

Yeah I don't recommend DIYers to do their own HVAC work. Obviously maintenance like swapping out the filter and maybe hosing down the outside condenser is fine. But HVAC is a pretty technical trade and something can go wrong if you don't know what you're doing. It's not something you can learn from one RU-vid video and then you think you know what you're doing.

It's my own house. That's the American dream man, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. I don't need a certificate to prove anything to the government to work on my own house. Sure, if I was doing this for other people it would be a different story. But I don't need government authorization to change the chemicals in my hot tub, or to change an outlet, or to replace my own furnace.

To anybody reading these comments, if you're not comfortable working on your own furnace, you might consider hiring it out. Use common sense, do your own research, and make sure you know what you're doing. You will be dealing with chemicals, natural gas, and electricity. Best of luck to you. It's not rocket science and you can save a lot of money doing this yourself. Cheers!
