"Skilsaw Instruction Manual: Models 77, 367, & 825 Super Duty Saws" "3. Oil level should never be below bottom threads in housing. 4. When adding oil, fill until oil starts to run out of oil hole at arrow on housing. 5. Replace oil plug. NOTE: If oil is extra dirty or thick, replace the plug, and run the saw for one minute to warm up the oil. Remove the plug and turn saw upside down to remove all oil. Fill housing with kerosene. Replace plug and run for one minute to flush out the gear housing. Drain out the kerosene and add fresh SKIL lubricant. With a new saw, change the oil after the first ten hours of use." "7/78"

Watched half the vid but mmtools is suppose to be a go to for Vintage worm drive parts. only a few and said this is one of them.

You have the "trusty little skilsaw wrench" in upside down. It should curve upward AWAY from the work surface.

I don't know mines 25 years old and I've never changed the oil.Its possible it might be a little low.

I hear ya, I warmed mine up running the saw then drained the old. next I refilled with Lucas oil for flushing out only. repeated until last flush looked clean and drained and refilled with skil worm drive oil.

Yeah they last a good 20-30 years but keep that up and expect failure at some point🤣. 90% of the people i work with never do. Something to check at least every year or 2

You got to take off the big black cap on the top of the saw and clean that oil out with a rag and refill that too? What are they doing over here at skill not mentioning that

GL-4 gear oil such as 85W-90 (not corrosive to bronze), Mobil SHC 636, and Traveller 85W-140 gear oil are said to be good for this.

Change after about 25 hours of motoring. I changed oil about once per year when I was working in carpentry.

Skil worm gear oil is about $6 for 8 fluid ounces (240 mL) at M&M Tools Parts, Lowes, or through Amazon. Some say get GL-4 gear oil such as 85W-90. For changing oil, Skil instructions are to drain, then run it briefly with kerosene, then replace that with Skil gear oil.

I recently purchased the Skillsaw mag77 and I'm finding the bevel slider to be extremely tight and very difficult to move when unlocked.. any suggestions? Thanks!

Hey Dayna, try some drylube in the bolt on the slider. Work the foot back and forth a good 20 times or so. They are always stiff in the beginning. They ease up with usage. Plus talk nice to it once in a while, your saw will love it. George Merrill

My eyes aren't good eniught really see into the oil chamber so if i dipped a screwdriver into the fill hole, could someone tell the measurement from the hole entrance down to an acceptable oil level?

Hello Jacob, the oil should come up to about 3/4 inch from the top of the opening. Just mark 3/4 of an inch on a pencil and dip it into the opening. Make sure your saw is level when you do it.

About 7 fluid ounces. The older 77 and 87 models (with the filler hole on top) held around twice as much oil.

@@mmtoolparts she may know about tool repairs BUT she has the wrench in upside down and she has the saw on its side when she is talking about checking the oil level. WRONG and WRONG.
