This video will show you how to effectively replace your control panel on your Pit boss classic. How to If you have any questions please leave a comment below and I will respond.
Used this video to replace my control panel with a highly rated aftermarket one from Amazon. The best time saver time of the video is "Replace the wires one clip at a time as you remove them." Saved me a lot of stress!
Yeah Pit boss has a great warranty I was out of warranty and they still sent one for free! Can’t beat that I will be purchasing another smoker from them when the time comes
I have had my Pit Boss Tailgator just under 2 years and while using it, the digital screen stopped working and unit shut off. I contacted Pit Boss for a replacement and was greatly happy to find out the part is covered under their 5 year warranty and that they are fed exing me a replacement screen assembly for FREE. I am very happy I had saved all of the papers when I purchased it and that I had registered my Pit Boss when I bought it. My part number is 15-PDH but call Pit Boss and have your serial number and they can tell you your correct part.
It took over 3 months to get the replacement part. I am very unhappy. I had good screwdrivers but 2 of the bottom screws stripped out. I did not like having to do my own labor. Probably my last pit boss.
So it’s a very easy install. Take a flat head screwdriver and there is going to be 4 clips that you just push down on each corner. And pull the pid away from the hopper
@@Rollinsmokeaz hey I certainly appreciate the rapid reply I'm going to tackle that thing tomorrow since it is the 4th of July! Hope you have a great 4th of July are you cooking out today too??
I've had mine less than 2 yrs. Used it so much, the burn pot has burned out. And my screen on the controller faded away. Only time it has readable letters is when it's cold out. Ordered the parts through Walmart. Reasonably priced. Oddly enough the igniter (hot rod) has never failed. I ordered a spare one of those while ordering.
Oh nice. Ya mine did the same thing. I sold all my Pitboss and bought a green mountain. Never look back at Pitboss again. The smoke and the taste of the food is so much better.
@@Rollinsmokeaz Took the day off from work today. Just finished putting fire pot, igniter, and controller in all at the same time. It was a chore. Had to use channel locks to get the screws out of the fire pot. Cooking some sausage for a late lunch. I like my tailgater. Just got done with a 3 day drunk, away from the house. Everyone liked the food that came off it. Including the brisket. No problem getting plenty of smoke. Choice of pellets is key. And i never wrap anymore. Unless you spend big bucks i think most come with the same burn pot. I looked at my brothers pits and spits, same burn pot as my pit boss. I can buy 5 of my pit, to one of his. He had to change igniter a while back. Told him he better get ready for the burn pot, since its the same as mine. I think some use a ceramic pot. That seems like a good idea.
My prob is runaway heat . No matter what the setting, it never stops burning going to 500 plus. Before replacing the controller I’m wondering if it’s an issue with the temp probe not getting the signal to the controller. Any ideas? Thanks
@@1ProShooter so this is a known problem with pit boss. That’s why I sold 2 pitboss I had. For example my pit boss classic was the same way that think would get up to 600 degrees felt like. So when pit boss came out with the new models and I purchased the Kc combo. I felt like it would never smoke and always took for ever to shut off. I found out that pit boss ended up lowering their temps on the controller due to grills blowing up and catching on fire. What would happen is during the cool down point the fire would shoot back towards the hopper and light the whole hopper on fire. I moved away from pit boss and have been very happy. With my green mountain. Check out my newer stuff and the reviews of my green mountain. I can set it as low as 150 and high as 550.
Good morning there is no part number that they have me. Just call danson that is who makes Pitboss. And tell them your display screen for the Pitboss classic is out and they will send out a new one.
Just got my Austin xl on July 2, the display has died as of August 14..... I called Pitboss, they are sending me another display. What I don't like is your new display is blinking!?? Wth... They need to make these better.....Brighter and frankly put in a place where I can read it. I'm tired of asking my dog what temperature it's at. As far as the smoker goes.. this thing is great! cooks food so much better than traditional side smoker. It's almost impossible to screw up the food.
Mine came out of the box with a blank screen. It works you just can't see anything digital. Pitboss said it was on backorder so they gave me a Bluetooth/WiFi one, lol
@Tyrel Glaser thumbs down for that lol well to be honest it isn't too accurate the Bluetooth/WiFi one. Using it broken for a month with the screen blank and just using thy dial and looking at the temp guage worked better. Thi Bluetooth thing has been off by like 50 degrees
Pit boss is a joke product! I replaced everything 1 at a time and I’m a certified electrician-welder and carpenter! And I keep mine immaculately Clean and now it’s spitting smoke and starting fires- what is going on?! I even double checked the control board I got sent from the company and everything is just like my old one but still paint functioning correctly, I’m putting my old one back on because it worked- I only replaced it because it was faded and gross!!!
