You are my hero, amigo. I installed my fill valve with zero effort after watching this. Took all of the guesswork and worry out of the job. I know absolutely zero about plumbing but this video made me feel like a pro. Thanks for putting this video out. Exceptionally helpful!
This is a very nice tutorial. I like that you added the adjustment of the flow on the refilling of the tank and the bowl. I'm over 60 and I'd never even knew that there was an adjustment that was possible. I am going to be buying this valve set up to help a widow I know fix her broken toilet.
I've replaced these before but decided to watch the video because ive never used this particular product and wanted to see someone else do it 1st. So even though I've done this several times, I STILL LEARNED NEW THINGS. 1: part about plastic supply valve. 2: rate of flow adjustment. I had no idea about number 2 at all and this info saves me money down the road so thank you very much!
Excellent video. I have the silver valve with the ball valve on the hose. For some reason sometimes a small amount of water keeps coming out of the fill tube and flowing into the bowl after the fill valve has shut off. It's almost like a reverse siphon. If I pull the tube out of the pipe, the flow shuts off and stays off when I push it back into the pipe. What would be causing that?
Valuable content, well presented, thank you. I particularly appreciated the comments about the supply faucet and its propensity to leak after being turned back on. It is that kind of possible glitch that turns a simple task into a real headache for a DIY. Good job.
I watched the manufacturers on the korky website which was only about 3 minutes. Then I saw yours which was about 9 minutes. And I wasn't going to watch it. But, I decided I had a little extra time and I started it up. So glad I did! Wayyyyyyyyyyy better than the korky website installation video with a lot of great and important tips and details!!! Also, I'm inspired to go back and check my other toilets' operations, including at my rental properties. Lots of toilets to dial in. Thanks again!!
I'm a avid DIYer and I've done a lot of technical training. You did a great job of presenting this with lots of extra information, good explanations and visual examples. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for sharing this video. Although I’ve installed quite a few of these, I especially like your tips on flow rate and fill hose prep. I gotta ask, are you from the Midwest?
Another facet about toilets I did not know! Thanks, I don't get how the flow of water into the overflow pipe is divided between the toilet bowl and tank ... by rate? How does that work? That is confusing as hell.
@@addismultitasking3504 I get that thanks to your vid. To really do that you would need some mechanism to control the rate to the bowl and the tank, but all I have seen is that little valve that slows the rate to the bowl. I was just wondering where the water that fills the tank comes from. I'd guess there is some water coming from the fill tube directly into the tank? I've just never looked at it close enough to notice that or how it works.
To ADD is multitasking: I wish to thank you for your detailed instructional video above! Your insightful tips have kept my novice self from either breaking parts or doing something wrong. By repairing/replacing the toilet float myself, I saved the labor cost of a plumber... Thank You again...kind Sir! Best Regards, Kevin
Will this fit an older American Standard toilet where the bowl isn't as tall? Also what are the repercussions if my overflow tube is way higher than the line you showed on the fill valve? Trying to replace the overflow tube if possible.
I installed the same exact fill valve and regardless of how I adjust the flow of water into the flow tube it doesn't change how fast or slow the bowl fills up. I guess it's just my toilet.. I have an American Standard Cadet 3.
Thank you for this. Paying it forward - I had the 528MP that comes in the "universal kit". When adjusting the float thing you need to go counterclockwise to loosen it. I think that's different than the other kind.
Thank you! I am glad I found your video. Very informative and now it is something I feel I can tackle! Any chance you have a video of a toilet handle ‘sticking’ and causing water to continue to flow? $$$
you have my exact same toilet AND my exact same replacement valve. unfortunately, i am replacing a toilet repair valve with a lifetime warranty that split apart on its own after 2 years. it has blue accents on everything.
probably has lime built up in it. soak a paper towel in vinegar and wrap around it so the vinegar can slowly drip into the top of the nut wait 2 days and try to loosen. resoak every 10 hours to keep the paper towel dripping
I was having toilet problems and bought this kit to fix the toilet but it didn't fix the problem and I ended up having to get a new toilet and wanted to save the kit for future use since the kit was still new. Unfortunately I had thrown away the instructions so when it came time to need this kit, I watched the RU-vid video from korky, but after my installation of the kit, no water was filling the bowl. Korky's video doesn't discuss the water level adjustment for the bowl at all. I watched 2 other videos who also didn't discuss the water level for the bowl!! Then I got to yours and then I understood why the bowl wouldn't fill. My knob was turned all the way down!!! Thank you so much for your video, you really helped me out!!
Very helpful, especially regarding concerns about the older style plastic handle and plastic shank shutoff valves. Heating the plastic 1/4-inch tube prior to installing is appreciated as is the tip regarding the orientation of the plastic nut which fits on the bottom of the fill valve. I've installed it incorrectly. When I replace a toilet fill valve, I add one additional step. After removing the old fill valve, I flush out the supply line by carefully turning on the water supply while the supply line is over a bucket. That procedure flushes out any silt or sand in the water supply line.
My. Guy. This video was so helpful in showing me the fill valve had to be twisted to lock into place. After some recent water line issues, we had air in the lines and extra pressure caused that fill valve to unlock and rise up, pushing up the tank lid and the water would not stop running. Your video showed me the fill valve had to turn to lock into place. I had just bought a new fill valve and was watching your video in preparation to replace it, when it dawned on me that the original part is probably still good. 5 second fix. Amazing.
Watched this one time. Then told my wife go change it out. Right around 8 minutes start to stop including new flapper. Then crawling under house to turn water back on. Now she is making me supper. Life is good. Good clear instructions. Thank you
I have no prior plumping experience, but determined I was going to need to replace our pump valve after some research. Your video was straight to the point, yet very informative for a newbie like me! Thank you. ❤
