@nigelblumenthal

@@WesleyAllenNC The other thing that this video shows that didn't come with my kit was two (or three) nuts to secure the cistern to the toilet pan. Your video did show these nuts (although in your case they were simple nuts; I would find wingnuts much easier to tighten). I called Korky's support line and they said that there weren't supposed to be more than three nuts in each pack; they didn't suggest that you needed a nut to tighten the bolt through the cistern, as well as a nut to go underneath the toilet pan. This, along with the lack of a couple of extra washers, just smacks of cheese-paring economy, and doesn't leave me with a good feeling.
@scottmolley1435

Excellent presentation with helpful additions - thanks for putting this out there. One thing I found useful as I installed this same kit without any assistance was to have a level handy for the tank install. The supplied Korky tank gasket in my kit was not fitted to the impression of the locknut as yours was and when I installed the tank (suggest having the mounting bolts in before placing the tank) the tank sat quite high above the toilet base and by using the level, I was able to mount it front to back/side to side without guesswork. Your tip about having the flange side up ("this side up" ) on the flange nut as well as the notation on the instructions helped when I hand tightened the water supply and could not figure out why it was still leaking. Your efforts are appreciated and your method of delivering information is easy to understand. A real-world answer to the vids produced by the makers.

There are lots of videos on RU-vid about fixing and repairing all sorts of things. But this video was one of the clearest and best I've ever seen, and I''ve just almost finished replacing my Korky. I said "almost", because in a false economy move, they have not included a second set of nuts to secure the ciatern to the pan, and also left out a couple of rubber washers which woud make the job much more waterproof, so I'm going to have to go out to my local hardware store to source some small bits. Grrr...But thanks for a great video.

Wes - fantastic instructional video with useful tidbits of information to avoid mistakes as well as to do the job right! Long story short - I just finished doing all of this tonite (I am 62 and every stop of the way was drudgery). I had a wet floor (even with towels lol) I have a fan in there overnight and a bucket under the valve / water line. I think I have a drip over that side - so hope to find that in the a.m. I had seen another video where someone suggested adding extra red washers/nuts on outside of tank prior to mounting to bowl. I wish I had done that. Whether I find any leak at all - I am going to go ahead and buy the extra bolts tomorrow and remove the tank --- again -== an add the red washers/nuts. I would rather have a sure thing than 'hope' there is never a leak at those two bolts. I think - if there is a leak - it is from probably putting that little black plastic nut on the bottom of the fill valve thingy - the nut that says THIS SIDE UP. Will find out tomorrow - too worn out to fight that tonight. I am happy with the kit - the included parts, the quality of the plastic - (hate plastic but the way of the world), the instructions are pretty good - but your instructions made it all so much clearer.

As many other viewers have noted...excellent presentation. I've heard that the adjustable type of flush valves have a problem with leaking eventually, or even right after installation. Many users have mentioned the sound of running water and tank level lowering with adjustable flush valve. Have you had any issues with them, or heard any feedback? BTW, for Gerber owners, I got a fixed height Korky flush valve for a 1985 Gerber which requires a thicker than standard tank-to-bowl seal, and there's no way the seal fits the round Korky locknut to make contact with the tank bottom. But it works just fine with a standard hex locknut.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. I haven’t had anyone continually commenting after their initial question so I can only assume that they were able to remedy their problem. It’s almost always something small that was left out or not tightened / adjusted properly..

Can the fill valve be adjusted once you replaced everything?

Very helpful. Will you do a video showing how to replace the commode from the floor with new phlange and bottom of commode? Someone replaced one of my commode phlanges years ago with a 3 inch inside. Should have been 4 inch outside. I have had roots come up from it into the bathroom from the outside of the in foundation pipe. It is also not stable. Now I must figure ot how t cut the glued inside pvc plange out to replace with an outside.

You should pay attention to the supply line anyway. The toilet i replace the internals on today had a rigid supply line that wasn't long enough to reach the Korky system i installed.

My installation seemed to go well without the extra washers on bolts and no leaks for several days and started to use the toilet again for a few days without any problems all ok only noticed the water level in the bowl was too low (not sure if i can readjust the fill valve upwards without taking it completely out?) and there are some stationary bubbles on the heads of the two bolts and at the bottom of the fill valve. However after a few days of no leak problems i got a bit concerned about the toilet rocking on the vertical and i thought if i tightened the nuts around the bolts that might help - however the result was leaking from the bolt on the right side post flushing, after tightening, and especially when i open the main water supply full enuf so it does not take 5 minutes to fill And then another problem - as i increased the water pressure from the pipe a banging noise started sounding like a tractor in the pipes which would disturb the neighbor in the apartment below and perhaps the neighbor adjacent if i did not shut it down almost completely off (this did not happen with the old tank inserts). So we are back to using just the toilet in our ensuite second bathroom. HELP PLEASE. thks

Thank you for this informative and well-explained video! I just have one question: by how much should we shorten the links on the chain that connects the flapper to the handle (how many links should we take out?)

Instead of actually cutting the links, you can always test-fit the chain length by leaving the slack in place. It’s really just making sure you don’t have so much slack that you can’t lift the flapper which flushed the toilet, and enough so that it’s not too short causing the flush handle to bind..
