My Hindu rope was in big trouble a month ago. It had been in the same pot for 8 years. I had been top dressing it with new soil. The branches were up to 3- 4 feet long. Suddenly it started getting pale and the curley leaves were wrinkling and puckering. I wasn't over watering it. No bugs either. I was getting very worried it was dying. So I texted Julie. She suggested it might just need repotting. I was afraid to do it, but I bought new soil and thought that I'd better just get it done or lose my beautiful Hoya I had raised from a tiny little cutting 10 years ago. Well, I was shocked at the small root system for such a huge plant. I cleaned out the big clay pot, put in round glass beads in the bottom to help with drainage, filled in the soil and tucked it back in gently ( luckily not breaking any branches) and prayed that it would perk back up. Well, it's been a month and my sweet Hindu Hoya has shiney and smoothe leaves and seems content again!! It sits on a table in a west facing window as it always has. So mine seems to do well in bright afternoon sun. It has never bloomed, yet. I'm still hopeful. So, thanks Julie for helping me get the courage to repot such a huge plant on my own. Love your videoes!!! 😊😊

It's been a month and my plant still hasn't bounced back. All the small pieces died and a few long ones might not make it. I only let it dry out for a day, but I regret following that tip. Next time I'll follow my own intuition and put the thing directly into the new pot and soil.

Julie Nicole! When you tell your followers/subscribers that you'll make a video about something, you really mean it! I'm sooo glad you're like that! I was maniacally writing notes while watching you do the repotting. The finished pots look absolutely great! While inspecting the vines, did you notice any peduncles? Also, I didn't hear you say what size pot you used to put the ropes into. Would you let me/us know, please? I have 3 or 4 of the darker basalt pots like the one you used. I like the look of those kind mixed in with the regular terracotta. Since both my daughter & her boyfriend are in "Concealed Carry Permit" classes after work for the next few days, I'm going to try my best to get either Lyft or UBER to take me to two nearby Home Depots and possibly a Lowe's either tomorrow or the next day. My fingers are crossed that I'll be lucky enough to find one, or two of those amazing Hoya Hindu Rope plants! My heart will be broken if I can't find at least one. Thanks so much for sharing with us how you repot these amazing plants! I LOVE your style. I'm looking forward to your video on installing hooks for your new hoyas in your ceilings! Take care. You are appreciated! 🌾💜

@@julienicole92, my daughter took me to two Home Depot stores yesterday, Friday. Each one had 1 green Hindu Rope & 0 variegated ones. We were told that late March would be the best time to find them! It's amazing that your HD, that far north of Charlotte, has them & my stores, this far south, don't! I'll have to try calling Home Depot, from time to time, to see if they've received them. Thanks again for the info and for sharing your gorgeous Hindu Ropes with us! 🌾💜

Thank you Julie. I will definitely refer to this when mine needs re-potted. Mine is small and only has three pieces. I keep hoping it will shoot up another. Does that ever happen? Or do the individual pieces just keep getting longer with no new shoots occurring? It seems quite healthy.

Great video! Question: in this video there are multiple vines placed in one pot to make a full plant but I'm wondering what happens if you plant a single vine? Will it create pups and become full eventually or will a single little vine just grow longer? Thanks!

@mollycatcolorado9252
@mollycatcolorado9252 4 года назад
It is possible to paint the terra-cotta pots. I like to use Rustoleum's Chalk spray paint but I'm sure the brush on kind would also work. For plants that need drier conditions, I do not seal the painted pot. If the plant will be bottom-watered or requires frequent watering, I make sure to seal the pot with several coats of an acrylic based spray sealer to keep the pot looking nice.

My local HD has these as well as the more sought after variegated variety often. I have never repotted mine as they are slow growers. Mine are hung in a east and south window - one (southie) blooms every year several times, while the east facing one never blooms. For some odd reason, I’m fighting a mealy bug issue on the east rope plant - makes zero sense as I’ve had it for years and no plants are close to it. So weird 🌱
