Hi, You are right. Please check coil by coil. And there can be also problems in: sparks plugs, spark plug cables and motor valves. Good repair to You.

Thank you Peter, this video was informative and I believe it will fix my issue as to resetting the warning malfunction indicator lamp signal on 2005 Toyota Corolla. The owners manual helped me troubleshoot why the light was on in the first place. The fuel cap was not tight and when I tightened it and heard the clicks to confirm it was tightened, the problem was resolved but the light stayed on. I figured it needs to be reset and googled instructions to reset the Toyota indicator light and saw this video. Thank you for providing helpful tip. Btw. I am a female who likes figuring technical problems out so to avoid being ripped off. Knowledge is power. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Great info Peter. Thanks a bunch. In my case I removed each ignition coil one at a time. Each time the motor idled more roughly. From that I deduce that none of my ignition coils are faulty and my problem lies somewhere else.

Hi Peter . You can reset the engine light by removing the EFI fuse for a few seconds . No need to remove the battery , as this can cause your radio not to work , if the radio needs a code ., as you need to renter the radio code . This applies to all toyota cars .

Im a bit worried about disconnecting the battery (radio might need a code). So instead I could remove the EFI fuse for a while, right? I need your help ASAP. Where will I find the EFI fuse in my Mazda 6 (2004)? Thanks. Also, I fould out that its better to switch on your headlights for a few minutes after disconnecting battery,which helps to more rapidly drain energy in the computer. What do you say to that?

My toyota corolla 2014 LE had the rqdio go off when i replaced my faulty battery. Its been over ayear qnd cant get it fixed. Reveree cammeea still works and screen but radio wont fully load up the loading bar

Hi again, Your are very supportive and am grateful to you. I checked my ignition coils by removing their plugs 1 by 1 and it appears that all of the coils are working perfectly fine so I wonder what next can i do to help myself with it. regards

Hi. Toyota motor can start maybe even with two cylinders, but it shakes or wobble a really lot. The idea to find error is to feel, when motor shakes or wobbles more then before. Then we can notice, that this ignition coil is damaged. There could be also other issues like wires and spark plugs too. Good luck for fixing the issue.

i have a 2001 toyota corolla 1.4 petrol with 245000 mls and the engine,gearbox and clutch have never been opened,there as they were coming out of the factory,the car gives no trouble and has never failed to start.it has never broke down.i replaced 1 wheel bearing,2 rear shocks,and 2 sets of anti rolls bar bushs,2 toyota batteries.the car does 600 mls per week every week.i have the car since it had 75000mls on it.

Thank you. I have the same problem. Got my ignition fixed but the mechanic did not reset the "check engine light". Since he is out of the country, I checked your video and unhooked the negative connection from my battery. The warning light is no longer there.

This is only temporarily, if the problem still exists just so you know. The light will come back on if the problem is still there.

Hi. I recommend that you change your car's ignition coil once then, when engine warning light appearing continually or all time. If your light appear at random times for different period of times and disappearing too it sounds more ignition coil error then air filter element error. And also ignition coil is expensive part, it cost a new one about 200 US$ per piece and used part about 50 US$ per piece.

Ok, purchase one new coil and test that by cylinder 1, 2, 3 and 4. If error disappear, you have fix the error. Ps. The error might be also in some other area like cables, and so on. Lets hope best to your fix.

Hi, have you test below things and possible causes: - Add more oil to transmission. Low oil ? - Change new transmission fluid. Old and dirty oil ? - Faulty shift solenoid 'E' valve change. Shift solenoid sensor broken ?

Great instructional video Peter Thank you. I have question on ECM for Toyota Corolla 2005. I just purchase this vehicle just now and previous owner had Toyota replace the ECM for vehicle in 2011 when car had only 27K miles on it. The car only has 33K miles on it now so not driven that much. What would have caused ECM to go bad? I am worry since warranty expires in only 3K more miles so try to understand what happen to ECM. Hi peter thanks for the videos. You're doing great. My check engine lights has been on for a while, my engine runs smooth and nice, but recently i discovered my engine take a bit of time to respond when i step on gas so i cleaned the air filter. Now During start my check engine comes up then go off but my engine vibrates and idles roughly (vibrating) but after some few minutes after warm up it goes normal. What do you suggest.

Hi peter, hope you doing well. I own 1998 Toyota Corolla AE110 and it has a tyre pressure indicator, which is really helpful and this was worked perfectly. However, last two days I’m got the indication and I rechecked the tyre pressure as well, but it was ok and the indicator turns on after few miles from every start. Can I know any reason for that? Hi Peter. Thanks for your video. My question is that do you have the engine malfunction indicator always when you ignition is on but not when the engine is on. In other words, when turn off the engine and you have the ignition on does the engine malfunction go on and after when you start the engine does it go off?

stdjmax Yes. You are right. The light is on, when motor is off. And light is off, when motor is running. But, sometimes when I have issue in engine, it is always on.

Hi just watched this, And it made sense. I have a non-start issue. The EML light is on, it will turn over and tries to start but fails to, I`ve checked all fuses and can not find the fault i`ve not plugged an OBD diagnostics in yet as i`ll be doing that tomorrow. Any ideas?

Hello, I have Avensis 1.8vvti engine, check engine light is on, motor is shaking/vibrating on idle, and cannot be driven, due to no power. It has stable idle around 1000rpm. I did this coil test, and it did not want to run when I took one coil off at the time, so I could not locate any faults from the test. What else can ba wrong? Spark plugs? I will try to read codes. Hello Peter! ☝️ A technical question. I have a Corolla year 2001 in Venezuela 🇻🇪 type 1.6; that is, 4AFE and neither current nor signal is reaching the oxygen sensor. This is causing the engine to consume a lot of fuel ⛽️ and also has a smell of candy with white 💨 and black smoke from the exhaust system. It uses a 12 volt wire + signal + (02) wires for a heater or coil but none have voltage from the ECU output. The 💡 ⚠️ CHECK-ENGINE light is on all the time. WHAT IS YOUR RECOMMENDATION? All your videos are very helpful. My Corolla 07 1.4 engine warning light was on, reset by Toyotadealer keep coming back, diagnosed P0420 fault code. They said needs to change catalytic converter E900+ and if still light on, change 2 sensor E400. (very expensive) Any idea to removed the light warning or cheap repair in catalytic? Hi, This reset should work also in 2003 model. And air bags is different story and sensors too. Just now I don't have any video for Air bags reset.

No Peter, as you showed in the instruction: in order to find a faulty ignition coil - we have to try unplug each one and start engine. From this point, I was wondering how do I know exactly that unplugged one wasn't working? Or, does not car start with two? :) Sorry, I am a newbee. Thanks a lot!

Hi Peter. Ive got 2003 Toyota Corolla S automatic. The engine is shaking . Computer test say misfire in 1 and 2. and another 3 errors.I change all ignition coil and still shaking and bad sound.. When I removed the vacumm hose from air filter connected to intake and plug the hose everything is fine and normal. Check the computer all errors are gone.But I think its wrong because its not connected anymore but now its running smoothly and no more vibration and zero error.What do you think . Any suggestion to stay like that or connect again the hose but the error will come back.?

You're only going to get one shot at this, so... Get an 18 oz. framing hammer and a big phillips screwdriver. Place the tip of the screwdriver against the gauge cluster directly over the check engine light. You have to hit it hard, but accurately, so you don't damage the fuel gauge. When the smog guy sees that the light was punched out, rather then lit up by an engine issue, he/she should let you pass your inspection.

I have just been reading some of the great comments feel a little better. I have a toyota corolla since 2003 it has 130,000 miles the check engine light a throne in my side went to have it looked at 700.00 later and one day it is on again not the cars fault but I feel like I have been taken advantage of yes of course I will bring it back to the mechanic. at least by reading some of the comments I feel safer driving it to the mechanic. Hi peter, What would cause the check engine light to turn on while the car in park and the engine is reved. Check engine light does not come on while in drive only when in park and the engine is reved (Or you press the throttle). Car is a lexus is200 with a 1jzgte vvti engine. Hope to hear from you thanks.

Keston Ali Hello. Your sensor could be dirty. Sensors like air flow sensor and oxygen sensor.

HI Peter, the drive belt of my Toyota Yaris 2006 1.3L VVT-i auto broke while I was driving. I parked the car and I changed the belt the next day. But now I've got all the warning lights on (parking brake, ABS, engine, P/S) and everything pretty much doesn't work. The car starts and runs normally (I took for a quick drive) but no power steering, electric windows, I can't shift to drive unless I press the shift lock, no A/C, no radiator fan and so on. I checked every single fuse and they seem alright. I was thinking probably a relay…could that explain all this mess? Thanks in advance for your help

It could be many different things. The best way to find out is to read the computer code with an OBD2 scan tool. Or have an auto center do it for you.

Hello Mr Finn, I have a Toyota Avensis Verso 2002 model (gasoline engine car). Since we've been to Croatia the engine warning light is on. We've already been at the car sevice station, they reseted it, but it's glowing again. Is it possible that the long driving time, the age of the car, bad fuel or Oxygen Sensor has something to do with it? Could you please give me an advice?

i don't know in Toyotas, but in Psa cars (peugeot and citroen) this means "depollution system faulty". Probably will be related with this.

It won't be caused by long driving time. Long open road trips are good for engines as the exhaust has time to dru out all the condensation in the exhaust pipe and any condensation in the engine is steamed off. It's the short trips that they don't like.

Hi Pete, I have a Toyota corolla 2005 for some reason my engine light goes on for about 3 days and off for a week. They told me it was the fuel tank cap but I always tighten it when I pump gas. Any other idea what it might be? Or take it to a Toyota specialist?

Cynthia Martinez The lose/leaking fuel cap thing in false, thats what all car dealerships say when they don't know. there is no reason a leaking cap would cause any sort of check engine light or any other malfunction. There are no sensors in or around the gas tank. If you are ever told that by a service center I would take my car elsewhere because they obviously know not of what they speak.
