thank you so so so much for making it clear and short!! i’m never in the mood to watch a 15-min video or even a 5-min video when my detector’s being annoying
Thank you so much for this direction!! I’m a 74 yr.old woman and the beeping was driving me crazy!! I followed your directions and it fixed my problem!!!
I appreciate you revealing that all that you came across, did not get straight to the point, which is sewing discord! Nevertheless, I’m glad you found one who did! However, He was the first one for me
1am here! It was hard to stop since it was high up! GOSH! Now all the other tenants in the house are definitely awake after that 9min debacle 😂@Bess9779
Great video! My only question is why these instructions not included with the detector and why couldn't they have designed the product to "reset" without needing to unhook the electrical connection?
This helped a lot, the smoke detectors were going off for like 2 hours while we were trying to find the cause of it. This video saved us a lot of irritation. Thank you
I have 5 First Alert units with fresh batteries and they periodically beep - loudly - usually 3 times. Not a "low battery chirp". Tonight 3 decided to go in sequence 🤬. If this works, you're a hero.
Your comment was helpful. Didn't know about holding the button down for at least 10 secs after removing the battery. Went to the store at 7 am to get new 9v batteries. Reset the disk by holding the button down for 10 secs. Put the brand new battery in. The disk still shows a flashing red signal, even tho the battery is brand new. The chirping is still happening every 10 seconds and its coming from behind the unit in the ceiling. Ugg. This happened (of course) on Friday night, so the condo people won't be back until Monday. Meanwhile, the chirping from inside the ceiling continues. I need to find another place to kill time the rest of the weekend until Monday. (In all honesty, I think I had some kind of power surge last night that might have messed up the unit)
Thank you. I could not get the harness off but when you said counter clockwise I knew which way to keep trying. Finally at 5am in the morning I got it unplugged .
Thanks for this video. You’ve saved my ear drums. My alarm was beeping for 3 hours and all I had to do was unplug 2 out of my 5 detectors and it silenced the alarms for the time being.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ALL OF THESE STEPS IF IT’S A SIMPLE BATTERY CHANGE! Take the old battery out. Hold the TEST button for thirty seconds (wear ear plugs or cotton in your ears if you need to because the detector is going to alarm loudly while you hold the button). After holding the TEST button for thirty seconds, put your new battery in. Voila! Enjoy the quiet! This is a good video for a bigger problem or stubborn detector. But 90 percent of the time just do what i suggested.
Thank you. I was looking for a comment like this. Majority of the time I thought it’s chirping because the batteries just need to be replaced. Do I really need to go flip the circuit breakers to change the batteries? I betting that I don’t need to remove the alarm from the ceiling and disconnect electrical wires being that the piece to access the batteries is easily accessible. Will I be electrocuted just changing the battery? Is all that required to reset it? I’m confused.
We just had a carbon monoxide alarm go off and it was true… had fire department here , police , EMTs and the whole thing. Luckily we were all safe , had furnace serviced and all is good. After that, one of the alarms kept chirping and I couldn’t get it to stop! This video was an Excellent excellent video , worked like a charm. I followed this step by step , Killed the power to my whole house because I didn’t know which switch handled that smoke alarm. My wife got pissed off like I didn’t know what I was doing but this worked so well I am very grateful for this video - Thank You!!!! Amen god bless ! Lol
Using my DC voltmeter, I like to measure the voltage of the 9 Volt batteries I replace in the smoke detector. My latest chirping smoke detector was below 8 Volts. Once I replaced that one, all is well. I find that closing doors isolating units helps to locate the offending unit.
Thank you thank you, i was visiting my friend in NyC and the building smoke detector start beeping and i didnt know what to do i couldn’t sleep with this sound at 2 am , I resolve everything after that watch this video, very clear explanation.
Why do all the comment including mine say it woke you up at 3am? Thanks smoke alarm. Now my dog is shaking and despite 3 battery changes you still beep!
HERES THE SOLUTION: THIS THING WAS PISSING ME OFF ALL MORNING. FIRST TURN OF THE SMOKE ALARM FROM MAINS. NEXT TAKE OF THE COVER BY USING A FLAT HEAD SCREW DRIVER TO WEDGE IT OPEN. FINALY REMOVE THE BATTERY FROM THE COVER AND CHUCK THE WHOLE THING IN THE BIN.
Thank you so much for this information. I was going batty trying to figure out what to do after I changed the batteries AND IT STILL BEEPED. This worked perfectly.
Can one of these types of alarms malfunction and go off and set off the other 3? One was going off and then the two others would start. I disconnected the first one and now the other two are quiet. We don't have gas appliances in our neighborhood, all electric. I don't think this model alarm (the same as mine) detects CO2 anyway. Any advice?
Just looked this video up at 1am last night because the first night I came home from a trip my smoke detector starts beeping and I couldn't figure out how to unplug it. I didn't turn off the circut breaker I just pulled that sucker out, took the battery out, and stuffed it in a closet so I couldn't hear the chirping it made even after I unplugged it, worked like a charm.
Oh god, thanks a lot mate. What a fucking annoying thing to wake up to at 1am, and that too without any clue as to why there is no clear-cut "off" button on this fucking thing. This video stood between me and insanity and said, "not today". Thanks for doing God's work man.
Hi, the Specs say that the front-loading sliding battery door makes it easier to change the battery without removing the smoke alarm from the mounting bracket. So can I just slide the door and replace the battery? How do I reset it after that?
My family's is like that. We usually turn it around a bit so it's loose and then we open the battery door and then just put the new battery in there, twist it so it's tightly sealed to how it was before, then we hold the test button down for 10 seconds, (U may have to hold it down longer till 30 seconds, depends on the alarm you have) and bam the alarm is fixed and it doesn't chirp. It worked for us, but all smoke alarms are different, so you may have to try a different method. Also for my family, we never turn the power off for the alarm, but again just cause it works for my family, doesn't mean it'll work for everyone.
Its an annoying beep I'll give you that much. It's a stretch to call him a life saver unless you have issues dealing with the occasional anomalies in your life.
Thank you...excellent instructions....mines was expired and I'm hoping I can find ones(only newer) with same serial number to avoid rewiring🤞which would involve hiring an electrician 🥺
The smoke detector in the video has no wires and the imbeciles who made it but the God dam battery on the inside instead of on the outside so no sane person would ever buy it.
It's cos at night, the house temps drop by few degrees which causes discharge on the battery. Once temps warm up, it goes back to normal. Then at night, same annoying noise till u replace the battery or the whole unit.
These f-ing things may save some lives in a fire, but how many lives do they take due to the incessant beeping????? Most people I know, just disable them.
I have the same smoke dectector, it would only chirp at night and I couldn’t sleep, when I got it off it not not hard wired! The cords were covered, so I just threw away the battery because it was dying and I don’t have any things that could cause fire in my room
What a helpful video!Thank you. We focus on Smart Alarms, hoping to provide safety protection for more people, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, Door Sensor, etc.a small item may be able to help many families stay away from disasters.
Woken at 4am to the chirp! It literally waited for me to return from a week away, and the waited for my husband to go on a business trip to wake me at 4am. Took me a while to realise it was mine chirping. First time since its installation 8 years ago after a renovation. Jeeze. Ill do it when I’m proper awake - if i manage to sleep a few more hours.
Did all the necessary test, change the battery, dust the device, and eventually unwire the darn think and replace the unit but, still Chirping. Even when I unwired. What is in there causing chirping??
3:45 am in the morning. Beeping every 30 seconds. Driving me nuts. One beeps, the other one reports low battery. Changed to new 9v but Still beeps. Went musical batteries in and out running around with step ladder and still beeping and one speaking low battery. Finally Pressed hush button once, finally it stopped and now can rest. My wife was going mad for a bit. Oddly it is 10 years now as they are installed 2012. So time for new Kidde alert.
checked my 9V battery and it read 7.6V volts. Dead battery should probably have a different noise, or some indicator light, instead of annoying chirping that takes a while to find. Seems that 9V batteries are "dead" at under 8V from what I read from other people.
I have 5. Two I can reach just fine. 3 totally out of reach. The one downstairs has a battery. I changed pushed the button. All fine for awhile. The other one I can reach does not seem to have a place to put battery. So I push button and it seemed to reset. All fine for awhile. Tonight one of the ones out of reach began chirping so I used broom to push button. I think I am hearing random light chirps. I’m only good for pushing buttons. 😂 any ideas?
Check the back to see if the entire unit has expired. On the back on mine, it clearly states to replace alarm in 10 years. It’s only been 8 years, but it won’t stop beeping, even after a new battery was installed, so I’m tossing it and purchasing another.
